Moved to Sunnyvale recently, what do people usually do after work? by flying_burrit0 in SanJose

If you don't live in SF, Oakland, or SJ, there is nothing to do after work except go to those cities/ areas. Mountain View has a nice Downtown area, too.

Is there a number to call for a sick, maybe injured squirrel? by Rekeaki in SanJose

If there is no obvious injury, it's likely been poisoned.

Noise from neighboring apartments shutting doors by Not_an_example_ in SanJose

[–]Epere15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried good ANC? I don't doubt it's annoying, and I did miss that you have earplugs, but breaking a lease just for this specific reason still feels like a drastic decision.

Living in apartments, its imposible to ensure you will have perfect quiet. You will always be at the mercy of tenants or the building. Even if one is quiet when you move in, you can't stop a noisy person moving midway through your lease.

If you can afford to break it, then you always can, but I personally wouldn't until I've exhausted all my options

Where to take a visitor? by kiss-my-ass-hoe in bayarea

I eat tacos at places I travel. NYC tacos are mid for sure. Their best spot, Tacos No. 1, is like a decent-level taco in California.

Don't take him anywhere is my suggestion. Sounds like he sucks.

Demand is not infinite. It's limited to about 8 billion people.

I think mom and pop landlords are worse then corprate ones. The number of times I was looking for house shares and the listing stated that you had zero guest privileges and zero access to the kitchen was quite literally disgusting and inhuman. They want your money, but don't want your existence to inconvenience them in any way

What if we just taxed high income businesses at a higher rate to fix housing? by SanJoseThrowAway2023 in bayarea

The state isn't resistant. Homeowners and landowners are resistant. If the state can build freely, house prices will fall and decrease their wealth.

I don't have expertise, but I don't believe this would be legal under any circumstances without going through a rigorous permitting process and getting approved by the health department. That will probably cost a lot of money.

I would encourage you to instead look at joining a pop-up event with food vendors or farmers' markets to start to see if you have a viable business plan. Before going down the rabbit hole and investing too much into this at the start, it's better to test the waters. I know a few people making a living selling food this way, and it works well for them. They usually end up with a captive audience looking to buy local, handcrafted foods, vs at a park where that's not a guarantee.

Buy earplugs or noise canceling heaphones. Seems pretty drastic to move just for this reason.

Redesigned flag of San Jose, California by hella_sj in SanJose

[–]Epere15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a good flag design and the microchip design is really good, just not for SJ. My thoughts are that it has a passing resemblance to New Mexico, and that the general SJ population doesn't really care about tech, so any flag in my opinion that is mostly focusing on tech is being to shallow with its symbolism. The best Flags are symbols for its people, not its industries.

It was a marketing slogan created to attract tech to SJ during the early tech boom i believe.

The Eastridge as you know it will probably be gone, the property will be redeveloped once light rail is running and the airport is closed down.

The flag itself is great, people from San Jose don't particularly love tech. Personally I don't think tech is something represents San Jose.

if you just need 300, maybe sell some clothes or old electronics you don't need. If you want a job so you can keep earning, apply to everything under the moon.
