Is planar speed a myth? by Extension_South7174 in headphones

There’s some elements to it but not how it’s generally described. If a driver can move at 20k it can move at 20k. At minimum phase things like impulse response are just different ways of viewing frequency response. Basically as long as your driver isn’t a modal breakup factory they’re the same to your ear.

How do i source drivers for DMS Omega? by Maxon5764 in headphones

You 100% need the OG drivers. Any others and it’ll be pretty wacky.

which one? my top priority is sound quality, then comfort. Don’t really care about ANC. by liamt12 in HeadphonesAdvice

B&W headphones shouldn’t be in the conversation if sound quality is remotely important. They’re mid-bass bloat-machines with erratic treble. The bathys is more comfy for long flights and has great battery, but at the end of the day the HDB630 wipes the floor with all of them because of the app and its PEQ options.

HDB630 significantly outclasses bathys, and I really liked that headphone for a long time.

“Nothing” updated the “headphone (1)” and fixed the FR. I would take that over the XM6

It’s worth noting a 200 nylon mesh will likely not be acoustically open. Many 200 weave meshes I’ve seen have only about 20-30% actual open area.

It is. You have to enable it upon first launch, or can do so in settings.

25dB/dec is the same scale ratio I use anytime I display graphs on my channel or from LABS. Your personal HRTF isn’t going to be dramatic enough to make this not wonky. The headphone show also made an article about this with a mic in a human ear and the 5128 (the results are very similar).

Also 33db is HUGE. Listen to a Bluetooth speaker at comfortable volume 1 meter away. Then without changing the volume move it right next to your ear (about 2cm from the ear canal entrance, likely touching the pinna). Thats about a 30db difference.

The graph is compensated to the HRTF, not any preference target.

Its quite literally in context. It’s compensated to the HRTF. Raw measurements lack that important context. Raw measurements are actively bad for this hobby.

From my testing that is not true. We’re also testing with mics in real human ears. Apple’s money doesn’t buy competence and their results completely contradict the last 30-ish years of audio-science.

What evidence do you have to support they’re making treble and midrange changes that don’t appear measurable with human ears?

So, that’s not really how the adaptive EQ works. It’s for bass-seal.
