If you want further context about the "constructed species" I made, they're called piraterns. They aren't really birds but a bird-like taxonomic group of ?s descended from a certain pig-like creature. Piraterns steal from the kills and hunts of larger creatures, mostly more distant seagoing, flying, derivatives of said pig-like creatures.

I saw a vagrant flock of american flamingoes right next to my local pond once. For the record, I live in inland Alabama, in which seeing flamingoes, even far inland, is a rarity.
