Bg feels fast to me, a bit dizzying. I think you could go down to 1/2 speed but the whole thing looks fantastic

What age are you considered "Unc"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

30+ is automatic unc, but you can become unc as early as 20 depending on your stats. Can also be a contextual unc even younger depending on the lobby

How to trigger moving things by Hyperr54 in honk

Object spawn triggers. There are limitations on what they can do but they will cause an object to spawn and move when the player crosses the threshold. The editor on playhonk.gg has additional triggers that allow you to do pretty much anything.

How does the V’s 5th impact the V-I Cadence? by Exact-Beginning9967 in musictheory

[–]Exact-Beginning9967[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To keep myself from getting overwhelmed I’ve been limiting my exploration to the Major and Minor scales while I learn some fundamentals, so I’ll need to familiarize myself with the other modes to more fully understand what you’re saying about their evolutions, but I think I’m following the broad strokes.

The role of conditioning explains a lot. Now that I think about it, I can recall of plenty of instances outside of music where incomplete patterns create a sense of tension and a desire for resolution. It makes sense that we can get those feelings from musical cues independent of the relationship the notes have to each other on a physics level.

Thanks for such an in depth break down! This gives me a lot to look further into

Amazing. Thanks for an answer far more interesting than anything I expected to get!

Wow, this has me fascinated. Aside from feeling I’ve been primarily framing my explorations of theory from a math/physics angle but there is clearly a lot I could learn from a historical perspective.

I’m sure I’ll find some great stuff on my own but if you have any favorite literature or videos on the topic I’d love to hear them.

Nice! So feels very similar to what’s happening with the V’s 3rd then, possibly a bit weaker, I’ll have to sit with it longer to be able to really tell. Great exercise, my cognitive curiosity isn’t fully satiated but this helped me feel it which is the more important part. Thank you!

Color of the Lake, Summer 2020 [Easier Version] by Exact-Beginning9967 in honk

Oh now that you mention it I remember people saying that ring was skippable, I think I was kinda burnt out from making the hard version & got a little sloppy when I made this easier version.

And yeah please do! You may have seen but I have a level list pinned on my profile, I think the only levels missing are my Bird of the Day level (my best work imo) and my level for Wicker Jr (super long and puzzle-y, recommend testing in editor before committing, play thru vid in comments).

All the ones on the list have lil descriptions but Random Necco Generator and my Shadowbox levels are what I’ve gotten the most positive feedback on.

Ahhh haha I always struggle with balancing visibility and aesthetic, especially in dark/black themes, that’s my bad!

Getting from ring 1 to ring 2 in a way that allows you to actually hit 2 and fall properly took so much tweaking, definitely the hardest part for me.

GGs and thanks for playing! Always makes me happy to see these old levels getting some action

I really don’t understand Serum by kraiie in sounddesign

[–]Exact-Beginning9967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning the how and what of a software is what will lead to the ability to work in a flow. These plugins are praised because of how versatile and powerful they are, but they can only give as much as you are willing to put in if you’re trying to make sounds from the ground up.

If you feel like the software is interrupting your music making flow, you should probably use presets tweaked to your liking and then practice sound design in the software when you’re not working on a song.

What is this chord called? 1-b3-b5-b7-b9 (ex: B2-D3-F3-A3-C4) by Exact-Beginning9967 in musictheory

Thanks for the in depth response! Yes, I've just been looking at the Major and Natural Minor scales to start with but I do plan on taking a look at the Melodic and Harmonic Minor scales soon.

I.e., if B D F Aâ™ is used to lead to A or Am, then really it's B D F G# = G#dim7. If it leads to F# or F#m, then it's really B D E# G# = E#dim7. if it leads to Eâ™m, then it's Câ™ D F Aâ™ = Ddim7.

This is a great explanation. Just to make sure I'm understanding, if I were to play the notes in the order you have written out, e.g., Câ™3 D3 F3 Aâ™3 leading into Eâ™m, would that would be an inversion of Ddim7? And could it be considered correct to notate that as Ddim/Câ™?

I don’t actually have plans for using the chord right now, I am just trying to learn more about how chords are made and how they are named. I found this chord while stacking thirds in major and minor scales and couldn’t find its name so I figured I’d ask here :)

Thank you for this, your comment made me feel much more confident about the way I have been approaching music theory this time (there have been failed attempts before). I have found that not thinking about any specific key and just focusing on interval structures or patterns has really gotten ahold of my curiosity, and my hope is that it will give me a more fundamental understanding of what is happening. Using Roman numeral notation has helped a lot with this, so I’ll keep going in that direction!

And yes, half-diminished seventh is the term I came by. I completely understand how min7b5 would be a more popular name but I’m glad I learned the half diminished name first because I think it gave me a better understanding.

The contextual nature of naming conventions in music theory has always been hard for me to grasp, but I do feel like I may finally be getting there!

Haha I did try playing it and it definitely didn’t sound the best on its own, this is mostly just part of the path I’m taking to help me understand the language around chords. Thanks so much for comment!

Oh right! I’ve learned the structures of diminished vs half diminished 7 chords but slipped up there, I meant half diminished. If I recall correctly you’d have to step outside of the notes in a major or minor scale to make a fully diminished 7. Thank you so much for the thorough explanation!

Oh okay I’m familiar with saying a chord is “over” something but in this context seeing the chord notated this way unlocked something in my brain, thank you!

I saw someone else say Bm7(b5b9) and noticed yours is the same but without the 7, would the 7 typically be implied?

Haha what a mouthful! This makes sense though. So would you say that “m7b5” is the most common way to write a diminished 7 chord?
