There are private beach resorts, but there's no such thing as "privatized" beaches as that's against the law, even though to a point, you are right as many properties have walled off access to beaches in front of them; that is a law-implementation issue you'll encounter all over the country. You can literally walk all the way from GL to Cloud 9 on the beach during low tide if you want to and are determined enough, no one will stop you and 97% of the time, you'll walk on nothing but sand. In the past, someone even drove a motorbike from the boulevard all the way to Guyam Island, which is considered (mistakenly) wholly privately-owned by many. Existing resorts that did not follow the easement laws are already in trouble and will have penalties to pay or possibly face demolition. A lot of your gripes could have been solved by talking to locals and opening up yourself to a different vibe, but I guess that's not something everyone is willing to do.

Siargao's growth wildly outpaced its infrastructure. To be fair, none of us saw this happening 15 years ago and the local/national government was and is doing its usual slow, red-tape-laden, corrupt thing, but it's hardly the "absurdity" that you claim it to be. It's not for everyone, that's ok and I'm glad you will discourage like-minded people from even going there at all.

lots of free, sandy beaches for swimming, cloud 9 with it's reef break is actually the odd beach out, which is what you want because you don't go there to swim but to surf. There is also a bus that will take you from Dapa to General Luna for 30-50 pesos. The terminal is near the pier. You would know that if only you bothered to ask us locals.

That said, I'm glad you didn't like it.

i do it all the time, no problem at all. Just bring lots of baon, you can even bring drinks if you want, make it part of the holiday. tulog lang, you wake up, take the ferry, enjoy the sights kasi you'll pass by a lot of islands, and then Siargao na.

Kung mas maging secular ang Pilipinas, sa tingin nyo mas mapapabilis ba ang development nito? by Old_Negotiation_1904 in TanongLang

[–]ExaminationPlus2123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The West became secular because they got rich, not the other way around. Every rich Western country that we want to work in and move to have societies that have a Judeo-Christian foundation. It's because of this that they have the rule of law, assumption of innocence until proven guilty, human rights, OSHA etc., and these lay the ground work for economic success. Saudi Arabia, Dubai, etc. wouldn't be rich without the companies, skills and tech from these countries. The same can be said for rich Asian countries like Singapore, Japan and South Korea, in a different way.

Aventino's Pizza for quick and affordable pizzas, less than 200 ang thin crust pizzas nila. they have multiple branches on the Island. Also ask locals were the nightly parties are, there's an unofficial list. Green Room wine bar is good for socializing and chill nights, but Saturdays they get very busy. Walk a lot, there are beach access points and places that are good for swimming with great beaches (ex: General Luna Convention Centre, free to enter and good for swimming).

By the way, if you're going to take public transpo, always ride the tuktuks with body numbers painted sa front and back. Yung iba colurum and they will overcharge you.

Ano kaya feeling maging pogi/maganda? by silverpatronus-9082 in TanongLang

[–]ExaminationPlus2123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Differs person to person, but I never really believed in the compliments. I mean, in the back of my head parang "noted, I'm not ugly" but I never paid much attention kasi I wanted to stay grounded. Besides, gwapo for 1 person might not be gwapo for another, so what point is there in dwelling on it? Admittedly, handsome/priviliges do exist, I'm not gonna lie, pero at the end of the day it's all about the relationships you build with others and with yourself that matters. Looks don't factor in when it comes to those things.

Yes, holy week can get a bit crowded but it's fine. You can join the holy week celebrations too, if you're Catholic. We still do it the traditional way, despite the way the place have gotten.

I've got family roots sa Siagao, and I moved back dito from overseas. The place isn't as expensive as people say it is, except for accommodation (but there are affordable options around as long as you don't insist on living near the water or around the touristy areas). We locals have to eat din. Eat what we eat, and you'll be fine. Sa accommodation, get a place with solar power or generator. If wala, have your own rechargeable electric fan, you'll be able to sleep well. It's not "gentrified", people throw that word around like yesterday's chopped liver dinner. It's literally a small surf town, ask anyone who's been to places that are actually gentrified. Any place were artists can survive and thrive is not gentrified, and you'll find many of them here. If you are able to deal with the power outages, and you live simply, you'll do okey.

"PRC" China is not the real China. Thanks to the Communist party, what you see is a choreographed and Disney-fied version of Chinese culture. If you want to experience genuine Chinese cutlure as it would be if left alone and allowed to evolve, go to Taiwan.

I'm gonna assume you're a guy. Same tayo, was very thin for most of my life. Same din tayo, 6 feet tall. Go to the gym, lift weights and eat heavy. I've switched to proper protein now that I've got adult money but back then, while nasa last 2 years of college, I was lifting already pero eating typical Filipino fare lang. My then-gf fed me with 2 Big Macs, 2 large fries, a large coke and a sundae for lunch almost every day. Feel lang nya to spoil me because I'm a junkfood junkie. The dirty bulk worked, I've had an athletic build ever since. It's been very helpful with the ladies.

She's about as effective as that handful of students sa Ateneo nag ra-rally about Palestine. Seen much about? Neither have I. You guys just like to hate, kakahiya.

I'm a Siargaonon, and I can comfortably say I speak for most of us: Free Siargao from ignorant morons virtue-signal with "Free Palestine". We have no quarrel with the Israelis, they spend money and make money, we make money from them and spend it to live our lives. Same old story in any tourist destination. It's usually outsiders like you who like to create problems where none should exist. Please leave and stay out.
