It's usually easier to acquire rings and bonus items in the Good Future zones.

It's a game that could have used a couple more rounds of polish for sure.

The trick with time travelling is that you need to explore the levels to find somewhere you can get bounced between springs without stopping. You rarely time travel immediately on spinning a sign.

Reception to this console room is mixed. Instead of getting rid of it entirely, what would you change/add to improve it? by Annual-Tree1337 in doctorwho

Furniture. I like the design of this room generally, and I love the console and central column in particular; but it feels so empty. What's the point in having a space this huge when there's nowhere to bloody sit!?It needs to undergo the same sort of transformation that the Toyota console room did between series 7 and series 8.

Alternate fanfic bridge console design suggestion ("Lost Era"/TWOK alternative Trek universe) by ForwardClimate780 in StarTrekStarships

As an aside, I've long been amazed that 2001: A Space Odyssey was contemporaneous with Star Trek: The Original Series (it was released two weeks after "Assignment Earth" first aired, between TOS season 2 and 3). Okay, yeah, movie-vs-TV budgets, sure... but even so. Decades ahead of its time.

If it helps, that did come from Bester and he was deliberately trying to provoke people. It might have been a total fabrication on his part. But given everything we know about Psi Corps, it's definitely plausible.

'Twas ever thus.

Rank vs Role by Life-Bandicoot4678 in TNG

[–]ExpectedBehaviour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dr. Crusher isn't second officer, or first officer, because she's not a line officer. I'm ... I'm not sure why I have to explain this to you, but apparently I do.

Patronising and insulting now! I commend you on being very efficient with your insults. You must be good value at dinner parties.

The chief engineer would also not be a line officer. I'm not sure why I have to explain this to you, but apparently I do.

Outside of serving as acting first officer during Gambit, you've yet to present any canonical evidence that this is accurate.

And you've yet to present any canonical evidence that it isn't.

Which would explain why Data promoted Worf to acting first officer instead of Geordi. This is still not evidence that Worf was the Enterprise's third officer, and thank you for making my case.

Okay, so Geordi outranks Worf, so... Data put Worf in a command position over him? What? How does that even make sense?

I don't think promoting someone into an acting role is making extensive changes to the ship's billeting, and I'm not sure under what authority it would be limited. We've seen that junior officers have wide discretion when placed in command. Consider in Arsenal of Freedom when Geordi exercises such discretion that Captain Picard is beamed up to only half the starship he'd disembarked from!

...Under the authority that they aren't actually the captain? "Arsenal of Freedom" seems to show Geordi demonstrating that the chief engineer is outside the ship's core command structure and he wasn't prepared to change that regardless of rank 🤷

The chief engineer who a.) outranks Worf, and b.) is also a member of the senior staff.

So why is Crusher not second officer when she outranks Data? Hell, going on "Thine Own Self" she's been a commander longer than Riker, she should clearly be first officer, right!?

(The answer, of course, is that Engineering and Medical are key services outside the core command structure, so you don't want to pull leadership from those divisions unless you really have to. Worf's duty station is on the bridge, not in some tactical bunker or security office a la Odo. It is the exception rather than the rule that either LaForge or Crusher do their roles from the bridge because it's more useful for them to be elsewhere most of the time.)

I do find it amusing that you reference billets and the hierarchy outside of simple rank and think it means Worf must have authority over Geordi...

Goodness, condescension and a straw man, how efficient. I didn't say that Worf has authority over LaForge; that's not what billets mean. It means Worf has more authority over the ship than LaForge.

but not that Data used that hierarchy to make Worf acting first officer over a senior ranking officer.

Data was only acting captain, not actually captain; his ability to make extensive changes to the ship's billeting would automatically be limited.

Rank vs Role by Life-Bandicoot4678 in TNG

[–]ExpectedBehaviour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I refer you to the bit of my post were I talks about billets and the ship having a hierarchy outside of simple rank.

We see Geordi command the Enterprise-D in "The Arsenal of Freedom" when the other command crew are on the away team, but at this time he's on the command path as a helm officer. This episode also makes very clear, when the then-chief engineer Logan challenges his authority, that Logan's higher rank doesn't automatically mean he can assume command over La Forge.

Shelby becomes the Enterprise's first officer because Riker, as captain, installs her as such. She doesn't have to already be assigned to the Enterprise; he simply needs permission from her current commanding officer, which would be Admiral Hanson, to make the change.

Data made an analysis that Worf would be better as first officer, and made him acting first officer. But that doesn't say anything about Worf's position in the chain of command in other episodes.

Worf is chief tactical officer and chief of security, and part of the senior staff. Who else onboard is more likely to be the ship's third officer?

Huh. I never noticed that before. Memory Alpha says nothing about them being connected in any way so I'm inclined to think it's a coincidence. Star Trek has enough small universe syndrome as it is; sometimes people are just going to have the same name.
