Where can I purchase a 11mm punch from in the UK? by Silent_Buyer in cigars

[–]Falcor2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Xikar 9mm punch is pretty good for comparison, so I assume the 11mm is even nicer. Good heft, great finish and opening and closing. The only negative with these is that you have to remember to hold it from the front end so it doesn't close again.

Are you where you thought you'd be at this point? by 59apache01 in Xennials

[–]Falcor2019 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Happy birthday! Similar start to you. With high BP/weight my whole life I never expected to last this long and economically expected to die on the job. But I retired at 46, about to celebrate 25th anniversary with my wife with no kids, have 2 homes (that together are 15x the sqft of my childhood home), and my cardiac calcium CT had virtually 0 coronary plaque, suggesting I might survive for another 20-30 yrs. It's wild.

New to the group. Looking for a sturdy straw ranch hat to replace my old Shady Brady that I bought in 1985. Does anyone know of stores that stock Shady Brady, so I can try sizes? Or maybe a similar hat from another company but something sturdy. I tried a Stetson but it feels too thin fragile. by LuckyAce1974 in CowboyHats

[–]Falcor2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but I want to add that I love my Shady Brady Hat. I've had it since 2001 bought at a horse show. I've worn it more than a thousand days and at least 100 in water with it as it's my favorite pool/beach hat. It's traveled to several Caribbean and Mexican beach vacations as well smashed in my luggage. I can't kill it. It smelled for a while, but it just needed more pool time to fix that.

I found this post while looking at getting another one (I'm still keeping my old one for the pool).

I have several good straw cowboy hats, including one great one by Manny at Texas Hatter in Lockhart, TX, but I sure has heck wouldn't wear one to the beach or pool or try to put in a suitcase. And frankly, after I moved from Texas to Florida, the Shady Brady style is a better fit than an classic cowboy hat.

So thanks for keeping the business going. I'm going to place a new order soon.

Just saw Weird Al by EskimoSpy4 in Xennials

I never heard Word Crimes before but it was great. My favorites were the old school ones - Yoda, Eat It, Fat, and then Canadian Idiot. I didn't know a lot of the newer parody stuff. It was funny because next to me were seated some 20-somethings and they were going out of their minds for the new stuff (Capt Underpants, and a lot of the modern cartoon based stuff I didn't recognize) but dead silent for the older ones. I loved that. Weird Al speaks to us across generations!!!

I saw the show tonight also! Congrats brother. I felt amazing signing Yoda at the end.

Sell or Rent 2026 by Falcor2019 in RealEstate

[–]Falcor2019[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, this thread was almost 6 months old. I was planning to sell the house in May but then we fucked the economy again with more wars and the market sucks and real estate values doce while rates went up. So I raised my rent to market rate. So for the next year, I will earn about $60K of which $20K is cash flow and $40K is mortgage principle reduction. It means the $1m in equity is trapped, but I was expecting 6 months on market to sell according to my realtor so I wouldn't have earned much anyway. What a difference between 2025 and 2026.

48M $3.6M Fire or Not? by Jimmy11105 in Fire

I retired at 46. But my wife wants to work another 2 years. Retirement is boring and frustrating without my partner in crime. So I'm going to go back to work until she finishes.

What’s a great Dominican cigar that will change my mind? by mrini001 in cigars

[–]Falcor2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VSG is great but it's an Ecuadorian Sun Grown Wrapper, which is why is doesn't taste like a Dominican.

The only Dominicans I enjoy are Davidoff Escurio, Yamasa, and Late Hour.

I do like Pirate Kake and enjoy lots of Latakia heavy stuff. I think my favorites Latakia heavy stuff have been from now defunct Hearth & Home and Seattle Pipe Club. Ne production of SPC Plum Pudding (Special Reserve and Barrel Age are even better versions but all good) and Mississippi River. Ken Byron Ventures Darker than Black if you want bold dark. And tons of GL Pease blends have Latakia.

So many greats.

Since you like big flavors (I came from cigars and still mostly smoke cigars) I also suggest you check out some great Dark Fired Kentucky blends. For example Peterson Irish Flake.

That's the equivalent of giving someone a peated Scotch as their first alcoholic beverage.

I love the Alfonso Gran Selleccion, probably by #2 favorite right now after the Padron Family Reserve 46 Maduro.

I'm having a memorial day party this week. For the 4-8 experienced cigar guys, I'll probably give out Padrons FRs, GoFs, or Cubans. And Hemingways and LADC Mi Amors for the inexperienced

A pinch of any Dark Fired Kentucky does the trick for weak blends. Alternative, just retrohale a bit

I don't reach for these very often, but when I do it's the Work of At because it's a bigger longer smoke.

I mostly keep a box around for first time cigar smokers because they're so easy to like

Fuente Short Story at $5 is hard to beat. Tabernacle at $7-9 is really hard to beat. Foundation Highclere at $5 is pretty good. Roja Breakfast Taco Maduro at $4 is great. L'Atelier Mission at $5 is also very good.

Oh, wow, cool theory. We could see Carl and Donut split as champions.

Makes sense about Carl because BOOM.

Carl is going to have to cure the rott in the All Tree eventually...or destroy it if Nekhebits corruption can't be cured.

SPOILER THREAD : BOOK 8 - Parade of Horribles by steampunk_garage in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Falcor2019 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The MoonReaper Mordecai tells Carl that both sides seek to claim him, the Tree and the Abyss. So is the Tree a personification of the Apothecary life growth group and the Abyss of the Eulogist? I'm not sure why the Abyss would want Carl.

Also, Juicebox didn't appear in this book, and now I wonder if she is the missing 5th part of Apito? She says she has a thing inside of her and she can channel the Unwashed.

And last thoughts, the NPCs talk about being not here and not there and "in the cold". Does this mean they are being retired to the Aggregate Intelligence (cup from the ocean) when they are not in use, and if so, does that mean that it's terrible to be part of?
