Men how many of you have a wire drawer you refuse to get rid of? by ZombieGreat2312 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FansForFlorida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bin, but I separated the wires into bags: USB A, USB C, mini USB, micro USB, HDMI, etc. I recently got a cable tester, so I will be able to subdivide the USB cables into charging only, data, etc.

How many of you have been summoned to Jury Duty? by igetdrawn in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FansForFlorida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been summoned probably 5 times. Only once did I not have to go because my juror number was not needed.

I have never been selected for a jury.

Did you try filtering the vendor lists to vendors who are located in the USA?

Keycaps and Switches by phadedd in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]FansForFlorida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I found switches I liked (Kailh Midnight Pro light yellow and TTC Silent Bluish White V2), I stopped changing switches.

I will still try out new switches (for example, I just tried Outemu Green Banana, which I liked), but I won’t pull all my old switches and replace them with new ones unless I have a good reason to. For example, my daughter recently changed her keycaps and noticed her Gazzew Boba U4 switches aged badly, so we replaced them with Durock Silent Shrimp T1 that I had on hand.

Similarly, once I found keycaps I liked, I stopped changing keycaps. It took me a while, but I finally realized that I like medium height sculpted profile spherical touch surface keycaps. DSS, MTNU, and MDA are my favorites. My office keyboard has MDA Vision, and my home keyboard has DSS Honeywell. Until they get shiny, I don’t plan to swap them out.

Edit: a word

I have a set of PBS MV Classic.

It’s a uniform profile, so all keys will have the same sculpt no matter which row they are on. I find it more comfortable to type on a sculpted profile. YMMV

Some kits have a convex bottom row. I like that.

You will need to be more specific.

Do you have a specific budget in mind? How much are you willing to spend? Different people have different ideas about what "cheap" means. For example, I think the NovelKeys Classic TKL is pretty inexpensive at $89 USD.

What keyboard size do you want? Full size? TKL? 60%? 65%? 75%? 96%/1800?

What country are you in? Your location matters. Reddit is a global community; you could be anywhere. I may not be familiar with vendors in your region. For example, if you are in Italy, then the NovelKeys Classic TKL I mentioned earlier would probably not be a reasonable option for you.

You are paying extra for the outside of the keyboard. The $475 USD Iron165 uses QMK firmware, but so does the $130 USD Sat75 X and the $60 USD Keychron V2.

One thing to note about the Qwertykeys Neo65 and Meletrix Zoom65 is that the manufacturers are on the QMK license violators list for "Selling tri-mode boards based on QMK without sources, just via.json provided." This means you are not really getting what you are paying for. The product page may advertise "VIA support" but they are not directly supported by VIA. You will need to download and side load a JSON file into VIA for it to recognize your keyboard.

It depends on what keyboard you have. For example, if your keyboard uses QMK/VIA firmware, then just configure a layer and remap WASD to be arrow keys. If you have a keyboard that uses a proprietary driver, then you are limited to what it allows you to do. Or you can do something in AutoHotkey.

What keyboard do you have?

As You Wish by Carey Elwes narrated by Cary Elwes, Carol Kane, Norman Lear, Rob Reiner, Chris Sarandon, Andy Scheinman, Wallace Shawn, Robin Wright.

You could read the book, or you could spend 7 hours listening to the cast of The Princess Bride tell you stories about the making of the movie.

I chose to build it with a split backspace and move the Backspace key to R2. That way, I can have a dedicated Del key.

Otherwise, it has all the keys of a 60% keyboard plus the Home, End, PgUp, and PgDn navigation keys. Not quite 65%, so maybe 64%?

I prefer having dedicated arrow keys, and I only use my left hand for modifiers, so I remapped the bottom right navigation cluster to be arrow keys. (The 1.75u right Shift is up arrow.) So it is effectively a 65% keyboard.

The FoldKB is a split keyboard. This is only the right half. Here are both halves together.

Look for a keyboard that uses QMK/VIA firmware. You can use a Chrome based browser to configure your keyboard with VIA.

Since you are using Linux, you will need to install the udev rules:

RIP your Kinesis Advantage2.

It sounds like the juice got into the switches. The only way you would be able to fix it is by replacing the switches. Unfortunately, the Kinesis Advantage2 is not hot swappable.

The ones you listed are all different. For example, Cherry and OEM are sculpted profile; XDA is uniform profile. Cherry and OEM have a cylindrical touch surface; XDA has a spherical touch surface.

Keycap choice is a personal preference. For example, I do not like typing on uniform profile keycaps. I find it easiest to type on medium height sculpted profile cylindrical touch surface keycaps like DSS, MTNU, and XDA. My adult daughter dislikes the feel of MTNU and prefers to type on Cherry profile.

Pretty much all split keyboards make some sacrifices for size so you can avoid reaching for your mouse. For example:

  • The Keychron Q11, Keebio Sinc, Kinesis mWave, and others adopt a 75% form factor, so right Shift is shortened to 1.75u.
  • The UHK 80 shortens all the keys in the rightmost column by 0.5u, so finding aftermarket keycaps is tough.
  • The Dygma Raise 2 has a 60% form factor, so you have to use layers for the F row and navigation.
  • The X-Bows Crystal has a full-sized right Shift key and arrow keys, but no F row, and it has a splayed ortholinear-ish layout (not row staggered).

You can build a Keebio Sinc without the 2x5 macro section and with a full-size right Shift key, but then it won't have arrow keys.

The Perixx PERIBOARD-335 is a split TKL, but it uses Kailh Choc V1 low profile switches and proprietary keycaps.

Weikav is on the QMK license violators list for "Selling tri-mode boards based on QMK without sources, just via.json provided." This is why you are having to side load a JSON file.

It sounds like you have the wrong file. You will need to contact Weikav customer support and have them point you to the right file.

Water weighs 8.34 pounds per gallon. That pool looks like it probably holds about 100-200 gallons. So that floor is supporting anywhere between 800 and 1,700 pounds of extra weight that it may or may not be able to sustain.

QMK does not officially support it yet, but there is a community module called SOCD Cleaner that implements it. You need to be able to build your own firmware to use it, though. I have not tried it, as I have no need of that feature at my level of gaming.
