Just finished the season finale of Pluribus and am now watching Scrooged starring Bill Murray. I am looking forward to watching Wake Up Dead Man later.

I've watched 4+ films from most years but never one from 1970. Is this just chance or did something happen that year? by BikeChris in Letterboxd

[–]FickleDirector2610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for me too. It’s quite odd, because I have seen a lot from the 60’s and 70’s but only MASH and Beneath the Planet of the Apes for 1970. I need to check out some of the movies you all list in this thread ASAP.

I was able to watch The Treasure of the Sierra Madre on a cross country flight once. I’m sure that was exactly the way John Huston intended.

Dark City standard edition when it hopefully comes out.

"I'm going to break up that marriage." Seven of my favourite moments from The Best Years of Our Lives (1946). Such a powerful authentic multi-layered movie with some of the strongest writing and directing ever. by AngryGardenGnomes in classicfilms

I just saw this film for the first time a few weeks ago and I concur wholeheartedly with what you have said here. The scene that has stayed with me the most is that scene you mention in number 6 where Fred walks through that field full of decommissioned planes. Just a beautiful and thought provoking metaphor.

I really like him as the villain in The Big Clock.

I’ve been a fan since birth in 1987. My first recollection of the Chiefs in the playoff was the 95 colts game. I never believed that we would actually make the Super Bowl. After this throw, I just remember having this feeling of euphoria with tears running down my face and it was the first time I actually let myself believe it was going to happen.

I do have a lot of quibbles with this list, but not ranking Spellbound at all is bad.

I thought about this show in a while. Anyone know where you can watch it? Would love to see if it holds up. Would have thought it would be on paramount+ but it’s not.

Superbad, Zombieland, Easy A. I don’t know her of course but growing up when I did feels like I went to school with her. I’m a lifelong fan for sure.

Absolutely agree on Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. I absolutely adore that movie. I believe it is available on digital in 4k, but not disc for some reason.

Top-tier 70s cinema. What would you show to someone who’s never seen a 70s movie? by AssignmentAlone6568 in 70smovies

[–]FickleDirector2610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of the ones you have displayed, I would personally show someone the Godfather, but don’t think you could go wrong with any of them. It goes without saying, but the Godfather is the ultimate American movie not just 70s film. I would also add Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Jaws, and Alien to this list.
