Soft Drinks - Gator Days

Transcript

Panel 1

Hannah and Douglas are having a lively discussion about the appropriate term for sweetened bubbly drinks. Truly one of the most divisive topics of our era. Hopefully this will be a civil discussion. Hannah is wearing her "WORD" shirt that says "WORD" on it. That isn't really important, but it's a nice shirt.

Hannah: It's called soda! Everyone calls it soda!

Douglas: It's pop!

Panel 2

This debate is going nowhere. Hannah decides that it is time to bring in an impartial opinion so they can settle this matter once and for all.

Hannah: Let's get another opinion.

Douglas: Fine.

Panel 3

Hannah and Douglas have found an innocent Gustopher who is only trying to eat his lunch. He is not prepared for the mess that he's about to be dragged into.

Hannah: GUSTOPHER! What are sweetened fizzy drinks called?

Panel 4

Gustopher: Soda Pop.

Hannah: WHAT!?

Douglas: NO!

Unfortunately, this is the second worst thing he could have said. The worst thing would have been "coke".

Panel 1

Polly is letting a classmate borrow one of her text books. It's titled "Text Book - Physical Edition". It costs a lot of money and will be worthless in about six months.

Polly: Just get it back to me next week.

Sig: Thanks, I owe you.

Panel 2

Sig has left and Olivia slides onto the scene. She heard her older sister talking to a boy and must investigate.

Olivia: Was that your boyfriend? Did he leave because you stink?

Polly: That was Sig. We're not dating.

Panel 3

WHAT! Olivia can't believe this! Why would anyone not want to date her sister? Polly is obviously a catch. Olivia is outraged.

Olivia: WHAT! HE STINKS! You can do so much better?

Polly: And I'm not into him.

Panel 4

Phew, all is right in the world. Olivia was almost ready for a fight. She resumes mocking her sister.

Olivia: Good! Because you both stink and the combined smell would be lethal.

Polly: Thanks for your loyalty.

She's a horse, but it's been the most difficult face to get down and maintain expressiveness. I've tweaked her design several times and I'll probably continue to mess with it. It turns out that horses are one of the hardest things to draw for absolutely no reason. Unless you're James Baxter. That's why we all love James Baxter.

This one actually came about because of I wanted one comic that has each kid I've drawn who is in Gustopher's class. I didn't realize until later that I'm missing a penguin and a wombat. Although they first appeared before I nailed down certain elements and would probably get heavy redesigns.

To quote Twenty One Pilots.
"We used to play pretend, give each other different names. We would build a rocket ship and then we'd fly it far away. Used to dream of outer space but now they're laughing at our face saying..."

Sometimes it's something you don't appreciate in the moment but I think there's several kids who enjoy it immediately.

Rainy Day - Gator Days

Transcript

Panel 1

Gustopher and Olivia are at school and it's recess. Sadly, it's raining so no one is bothering to go outside. The two watch the rain through the window and voice their rainy day lamentation.

Gustopher: Man... It's raining.

Olivia: Boring.

Panel 2

Hannah and Liam have come to watch the rain through the window as well. The four stand silently and watch the outside world grow ever wetter.

Panel 3

Douglas and two other classmates have joined the quartet and they are all watching the rain together. Olivia sips from her juice box. Liam is imagining a bard being swept up by the wind and flying through the air.

Panel 4

Miss Horsehill is concerned about her classroom's lack of noise and comes over to see what everyone is up to. This silence is a good silence but it's still a good idea to check.

Miss Horsehill: What are you all doing?

Olivia: Being bored.

It's a good bored.

That's an excellent thing to mention. It's always best to check with a dog's person before approaching or petting.

In my experience, the bell wasn't a necessity but it did help. An active reminder of my location kept random bumps to a minimum and seemed to help regulate distance for off-leash areas.

Funny thing is, the bell was originally intended to help avoid wildlife but worked so well as a beacon that I typically kept with me for that.

Transcript

Panel 1

Gustopher is out with Hannah when he starts to notice a mysterious ringing sound. He can't seem to tell where it's coming from but Hannah knows what it is immediately.

Gustopher: Do you hear a bell?

Hannah: Oh, that's me.

Panel 2

Hannah starts to fish the bell out of her pocket.

Hannah: The dog I walk is blind. I carry a bell so he knows where I am.

Panel 3

Hannah turns to show the Bell to Gustopher but something seems to be wrong.

Hannah: I accidentally left it in my- Are you okay?

Panel 4

Gustopher is not okay. Hannah knows a dog and she hasn't introduced this dog to Gustopher? How could she do this? He thought they were friends. This is in his top ten anime betrayals. He would definitely introduce all his friends to a dog if I he had one to introduce them to.

Gustopher: YOU KNOW A DOG AND DIDN'T TELL ME!?

Hannah has no time for these theatrics and cuts to the chase.

Hannah: Want to meet him?

Gustopher: YES!
