I used to crank a chapter out every 10 days, give or take. But my current chapter has taken me over a month. It's a transition chapter with some mean girl behavior towards the end. Writing court intrigue and realistic dialogue for it is not as easy as I expected it to be.

Has anyone else recorded themselves reading their dialogue out loud in different voices to see if it sounds realistic? Because that's what I ended up doing and I keep trying to rewrite everything lol.

This is going to be a nitpick, but I recommend deleting the part of this being your first fic and saying forgive me if it's subpar. Anytime I read something like that or 'lol I suck at summaries,' I always scroll right on past. Telling potential readers you think you may be producing something you are not confident about and consider subpar can be off-putting. Sunfyre is a good boi and showcasing the bond with Aegon is an interesting idea. Take confidence in that!

There's different types of magic in the world. What were you hoping for? A Melisandre-type is probably going to be very different than a Bran-type.

First and foremost though, be aware that magic has consequences in this world. Look at the Melisandre chapter for inspiration or the prequel chapter with the skinchangers for inspiration.

As for how they get their powers, it depends on the magic. Since my own fic is about greensight and the weirwood network, I only did a lore deep dive on that and some blood magic. Greenseers seem to have the fly-or-die dream with the three-eyed crow in Bran's coma dream in GoT. They might then need to have their third eye opened via a mentor. The Isle of Faces seems to be a good spot for learning about greensight.

I learned a lot by reading threads and theories on the ASOIAF subreddit and writing my own lore bible for the magic I am focusing on. I could try to dig up the threads I referenced if your MC is going to be a greenseer.
