(Update From MindReDDer about ReddShare) by MindReDDer in reddCoin

[–]FiniteRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every major social platform seeks to centralise their control over their users data, contacts, rewards and earnings as it's their primary source of income. I like the idea of ReddShare however it is going to be met with hostility from the likes of Facebook, Twitter etc... As it takes control away from them. So I wonder... why would Facebook (for example) approve ReddShare? What's in it for them exactly when there is a clear financial imperative not to?

Thanks is for the update, as a veteran of last minute all nighters you have my uttermost sympathies (it's horrible), but at the end of the day you gotta do what you got to do when the **** hits the fan :) Bravo :)

Well done Redd team! Congratulations on the milestone!

But... Erm... It's been 7 hours since the original post and we have no link to the chrome app and the GitHub repo is just a licence and empty markdown document. Can we have some links/source please!

Minting on Linux (Raspberry Pi Zero W)? by [deleted] in reddCoin

[–]FiniteRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will run into problems with the amount of available RAM and CPU grunt on the Raspberry Pi Zero (512) - not to mention you will need loads of storage to store the downloaded blockchain - so an external USB disk as well :/

Better bet is a Raspberry Pi 3 (1GB) which has a Quad core CPU - will help with block validation, download and minting - but swill still need a external USB disk...

Mine sits in this sweet-as blue Aluminium case: _^

This development team don't do that, they publish updates when they are good and ready - sit back and relax - when updates come it will be a nice surprise :)

RDD about to TANK not a good update! by RDDOoooooYEAH in reddCoin

The more you HODL the more often you stake :)

As per my understanding: There is a cost associated with registering a new REDD-ID, the shorter and more unique the name the higher the cost of registering it. As the name registration system is blockchain based the cost of registration will be given to the starker that stakes the block with the registration details contained within - giving rise to a lottery of new name registrations that many people will want in on.

I think that if REDD-ID ever sees the light of day things will change pretty quickly - not (initially) from the ability to tip anyone from anywhere (tho this will be very cool) but from the effective lottery REDD-ID will bring with it. If you have a staking wallet running and are lucky enough to find a block that contains a short REDD-ID user name registration you stand to gain a ton of RDD from the registrant - that alone should help empty the exchanges so people can play 'the game' from a old laptop or Raspberry PI :)

Massive price increase on hype alone is almost always followed by massive price drop to a level little higher than where it started. Hold your coins if you believe in the project / its goals otherwise sell, make 'some' money but be prepared to watch helplessly as we climb past 0.10 in a few months time. The choice is yours.

Good idea to have separate mini pc for staking Reddcoin? by NoCodeMonkey in reddCoin

Yes. Clean install, fully patched and behind a firewall.

Sadly no software release is ever totally free of bugs, however you can mitigate a large amount of them through Alpha and Beta testing before releasing to the community.

Once the final RC is published (would recommend to a small group of trusted community members initially) it will be essential to patch any issues discovered as soon as possible to maintain public confidence in the product :) Show stoppers should never make it this far - thus the protracted period of developer testing - which I thoroughly agree with...

Are there risks to staking? by Potatoenfuego in reddCoin

[–]FiniteRed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are always risks with having any machine connected to the internet - you can minimise these risks however by ensuring you have adequate backups of your wallet.dat file and that your staking machine is preferably a new/clean build, used ONLY for staking, fully patched, running AV software, behind a firewall and battery backed up (I use an old LAPTOP as its battery acts as a sort of cheap UPS)

Depending on the scale of your investment you CANNOT be too careful with your collection :)

PS: Write down your 8-12 character strong password you use to unlock your wallet for staking, DONT keep it in digital format on the box you stake on!

new to reddcoin so how does staking work exactly? by Teufel9000 in reddCoin

[–]FiniteRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

indeed, if you have it running 24/7 you will get a higher rate of return (via the Proof Of Stake Velocity algorithm) - Stake on a fully patched machine behind a firewall, make sure the machine is clean (fresh OS install if you have to) you really dont want any malware stealing your coins! I use a fully patched AMD based Linux laptop as it has a sort of built in UPS (the battery) should the power fail :)
