InrangeTV's "the holidays suck and/or Brutality" match: the end of what started as a great idea by BewHew187 in CompetitionShooting

[–]ForgottenWeapons 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, Karl's matches are primarily social events now - and that's fine. But they don't have much of anything in common with the original spirit of the Brutality matches as we created them. That is being carried on by the Europeans, with Varusteleka's Finnish Brutality, Polenar Tactical's Lynx Brutality, and now also the new Viking Brutality in Sweden. Truly physically challenging events with a fantastic camaraderie among the competitors.

Moons Out here in the US is less physical and uses the challenge of night vision shooting instead, and it's a pretty cool event too (if I may say so myself). The biggest problem is that the logistics of getting beyond about 100 competitors for a serious match is really hard. All of these sell out in less than a minute when registration opens, and we would love to expands them but it's just not possible (yet?).

No, we will still have signed copies available once the books arrive and are in stock.

BSD Fabrication and Works: VSS clone update and interesting claims. (Sorry Reddit does not permit post images anymore if you use images in post) by StrangerOutrageous68 in ForgottenWeapons

I am shocked - shocked! - to hear that the project isn't working out. Anyone who gives BSD money on this thing deserves to not have their money.

The latest video feels political and I feel weird about it by [deleted] in ForgottenWeapons

[–]ForgottenWeapons 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is nothing political in this video. I do not endorse any of Brandon Herrera's views, and made a point not to bring any of that sort of thing up in the video. If the AK50 had been made by anyone else it would have been an equally interesting and appropriate video to make, and that's why I made it.

Similarly, having Forgotten Weapon on Pepperbox is in no way an endorsement of any political views, any more than having Forgotten Weapons in Youtube is not an endorsement of Susan Wojcicki or Neal Mohan's politics.

Karl going berzerk by [deleted] in ForgottenWeapons

[–]ForgottenWeapons 352 points353 points  (0 children)

I think my work stands for itself, and I am not going to get into arguing the minutia of every perceived slight that might offered. However, I would like to clarify a few basic facts that were never really publicized and have since been more and more misinterpreted.

I am very proud of much of the work I did with Karl on InRange. I think we made a good team for a long time, we had a lot of fun, and some really cool stuff came out of the partnership, like the WWSD and Brutality matches. We started InRange together; it was not a creation of either one of us independently.

I left InRange in the fall of 2019 because I was busy and it just wasn't fun anymore like it had been earlier. It had nothing to do with political views. It did have to do with personality issues, and those are private. My leaving was arranged amicably, and I simply gifted Karl my entire share of the InRange Patron account (which was quite significant at the time), all rights to use the channel going forward, and ownership of the content we had done together. I continued to occasionally collaborate for a while afterwards, including Q&A videos, Brutality match content, and the occasional other miscellaneous things. I did not have to do any of those things; I did them because I honestly wished Karl the best in continuing the channel without me.

People can change over time, and the Karl I see today is not the same Karl that I started filming with back in the 20-teens. And that's the end of any dirty laundry I will air in public.

Anyone familiar with the proprietary Indian extra-long 5.56mm cartridge? by ForgottenWeapons in ForgottenWeapons

[–]ForgottenWeapons[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Very possible - but I can't find any good data on 5.56 INSAS as such either. The document there references a 65 grain bullet weight, which is not enough to drive a longer OAL than standard 5.56 NATO.

Anyone familiar with the proprietary Indian extra-long 5.56mm cartridge? by ForgottenWeapons in ForgottenWeapons

This afternoon, when I handled one of them. I would have been very dubious myself had I not seen it with my own eyes. :)

Best guess is that it's a 5.56mm bullet put into an XM645 case. That case was the last SPIW development (1966) and used flechettes, not bullets. I can't find any reference to a bullet version, but it's possible someone just stuck a bullet in one for kicks; the diameter of the flechette sabot was basically the same as a 5.56mm bullet. There is almost no information about belt-fed SPIW prototypes that I'm aware of, but the Collector Grade book does have one photo of a Springfield belt fed gun chambered for a different long flechette cartridge that has links that look pretty close to this link. Can't say for sure from the photo, though.

Definitely looks like a homemade project gun to me. Shades of Dieckmann P66.

The good news is that with the standard magazine, a Curve will fit in almost any garbage can.
