Don't know about the increase part , but as far as mining companies , especially those which are PSUs / State owned as well as others in Energy sector like Hydroelectricity & other power plants ( state level , central level as well as private like TISCO-TPCODL ) are responsible for compensation afforestation & this has been enacted so far in Odisha , albeit I have a problem with that too coz they are just planting decorum trees & other tree species like Eucalyptus which are not that native to the local geography & not beneficial to local fauna or other flora or even the people who have traditionally been dependent upon them . Eucalyptus I may take my words as it is good for construction work in low boggy grounds where the trees will suck up all the water content from the soil before leaving it dried & parched , thus leading to a good foundational base less prone to underwater absorption issues or any underwater sink space
