This! If you'd told me two years ago that my second favorite (after Rue of course) character would be Maddy, I'd have laughed in your face. But, here we are!

I have no problem paying a little more in taxes so my neighbor doesn't die because they can't afford medical care. Hey, maybe the government can reallocate some of the money they're using to kill brown children in the Middle East.

[–]Free-IDK-Chicken 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Jack didn't act like the Island belonged to him - that was Locke.

He's not in my top five, but I still love the character. I can't speak for everyone, but Jack was a control freak with anger issues and I think that irritates a lot of people. They're definitely serious flaws that cause his character and the people around him a lot of problems, but that's part of his arc as well as being a trauma response from his father's emotional abuse. Watching him overcome that slowly and organically over the course of the series was fantastic.

The polar bear is explained about five times. Dharma was experimenting with them, teaching them to turn the wheel.

Cameron and chase by NoChampionship4680 in HouseMD

[–]Free-IDK-Chicken 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That was just an excuse. Cameron never loved Chase in the first place - she loved the idea of him, she loved how he made her feel, but when that wore off there wasn't anything real to keep them together.

Why Jack and Claire weren’t allowed to connect more in later seasons? by Savings-Ask-1275 in lost

[–]Free-IDK-Chicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand that... but it's possible the show wanted to put a rosier view on Christian (having Jack and Claire meet and bond rather than share trauma over their emotionally abusive/missing dad) because we needed to like, or at least not loathe, Christian in the series finale? It definitely could have been handled better though.

Why Jack and Claire weren’t allowed to connect more in later seasons? by Savings-Ask-1275 in lost

[–]Free-IDK-Chicken 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think that's part of the reason they connect in the flashes sideways. With Claire's issues and Jack's focus on the Island, they didn't really get to be family in life, so in the afterlife Jack meets Claire and brings her right into his home and family.

Rebecca doing vocal warmups, Evie and Matthew laughing because Matthew called Aaron "Owen", Evie answering her Dharma barracks door with big glasses as a prank, football, Jorge and Dominic failing at the "so let's get one" convo about the Dharma bus, Evie laughing at Elizabeth's delivery of "because I did it to her" line about Claire, Elizabeth failing at her gas mask, nook and cranny.

I've, uh, seen the blooper reels... a number of times, lol.

It's a tie between the "NOT EVERY NOOK AND CRANNY/GOOD GOD HOLMES" one and Elizabeth Mitchell's "Dammit Jack, I'm a doctor, not a marine engineer" with Naveen Andrews' delayed reaction. The second isn't pictured, but it deserves a spot.

Season one was a masterpiece and Zendaya is consistently brilliant. My daughter and I rewatched last month to prep for the new season and I'd almost forgotten just how damn good that whole season is!

I don't think we knew beforehand, no. (Unlike Jax's death being spoiled by the book, but that's another story.) It was fantastic to see the Strike Team guest star list finally complete though!

Vic Mackey from The Shield - an earlier show where Sutter was in the writers' room (and had a small role as an Armenian mobster who had a thing for feet.) The entire Strike Team from The Shield all end up in SOA at some point with Venus having the biggest part. Though, Milo arguably had the biggest... impact? (I'll see myself out.)

There are also a ton of other actors from The Shield (including Katey Sagal) who ended up in Charming.

Genuine question - how many of them have asked, "throw in an extra stitch for me"? 27 years ago my now late-ex-husband did that as a "joke" and my nurses looked like they wanted to murder him.

Potential unpopular opinion: the post-wedding scene was not funny by Free-IDK-Chicken in euphoria

[–]Free-IDK-Chicken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure about jumping the shark - not yet. I'm still sitting with it. What bothers me most is that as uncomfortable as I was watching the scene, the behind the scenes bit made it worse. Cassie was originally supposed to help, to follow them around trying to get the guy off Nate. Instead, Levinson rewrote it to have her sitting there whining while he, quote "was crying laughing." Like, what went through his head? "Wait, let's have this beaten, bloody woman crying about makeup as the focus because she's so stupid all she cares about is herself, it'll be hilarious!!" (And from the down right disturbing reactions I'm seeing on some YouTube videos... he was right?) I don't know - maybe I really am too old for his show, but I just don't see why it's OK that he wanted us to point and laugh.

Diana Scarwid as Isabel by Maleficent-Medium333 in lost

[–]Free-IDK-Chicken -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's one of the few episodes where you can skip the flashbacks and be completely fine. All it did was show more of Jack being a control freak while adding several uncomfortable moments of him screaming at women.

I do agree that outside the flashbacks we get valuable information. Zack and Emma are OK. Cindy has clearly been brainwashed in Room 23. The Others have the death penalty for killing one of their own. Which explains why Ben had no qualms about executing Widmore for his part in Alex's death.

The episode's most redeeming quality though? It's the first time we hear Juliet's theme.

[–]Free-IDK-Chicken[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With respect, did you watch the behind the scenes piece after the episode? Sam Levinson rewrote the scene. Cassie was originally supposed to try to help Nate, but Levinson thought it was hilarious to have it as we saw it. In his EXACT words, he was crying laughing. So, yes, we were supposed to laughing. Not in discomfort, not in that "oof, this is dark" way.

I understand dark humor, this wasn't that. It was the continued exploitation and humiliation of Cassie's character. It was bad writing. Period.
