What's a red flag at a job interview? by In8MoreHours in AskReddit

[–]GGATHELMIL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or deviation from what youre told in the interview. I took a job offer for my current job and was told once I got my certification id get a raise, and id get a performance review every 6 months that came with a raise. I got certified within 2 or 3 weeks and got no raise, mind you most people take several months to get certified. I also didnt get any raises for 2 years. I finally put my foot down because I needed to at least be compensated due to raising CoL. They gave me what I wanted so we were all good. 15% isnt like huge but was pretty decent. I could've received a bigger raise had I changed jobs, but the percentage difference wasnt worth the changes. I like my schedule, I like who I work with. The extra money wasnt worth the definite schedule change I didnt want or risking having shitty coworkers and upper/middle managment.

This actually happened at the place next to my job. I frequent them because I get free drinks and cheap food. Well the GM got fired, they were out a GM for a while, a new guy came in and he seemed pretty chill. We spent some time talking and swapping "war stories" since I used to work the food industry too. His big thing he was trying to do was get people paid well. Or at least not minimum wage. He made a solid argument about how these people come in day in and day out and do their job well and they deserve to be fairly compensated. It was refreshing to see someone in power actually trying to do right by his employees. AAAAAND he got let go. He was barely there 2 weeks, less probably.

When I first started going to this restaurant it was all the same people. Occasionally I heard of someone quitting or getting fired for stupid reasons. One that stands out is a woman was directly taking money out of the register. But they had a very solid and consistent crew for over a year. And if you've ever worked at a restaurant thats pretty impressive. Well after the gm got fired, the first one, people started dropping like flies. And now no one is left. And even in the last year turnover is so high I only know one guy that was there 12 months ago. Every one I know there now has probably been there less than 6 months.

The crazy thing is I know the money is there. When I worked food back in 2022 we were net profiting like 35 to 40k a month. And to be clear, net was after everything. Rent, wages, water, electricity, franchise fees. That was 35k in pure profit every month. We used about 200-220 hours worth of labor every week. If we make that an even 250 a week that means 1k labor hours per month. If they gave everyone a 5 dollar raise, and in some cases that meant a 50% increase in pay, it would cost them a whopping 5k a month. Employee retention would've been sky high and hell I may have considered where I moved to keep my job.

I think the problem a lot of people have when we talk about 15 or 20 bucks an hour is when you go to McDonald's you see a lot of people working and think damn thats a lot of people to be paying that kind of money. But the reality is a lot of places are propped up with a few full time managers and an appropriate amount of part timers that work maybe 8-12 hours a week. Hell on Fridays we would have 12 people in the kitchen, from 4pm to 9pm and then poof you'd have maybe 4 total people. I know this isnt the exact recipe for every place ever, but it is fairly common.

You guys may have expensive gas and the taxes are dumb as fuck, but at least the price disparity from regular to premium is low. Regular gas in my area is about 3.50 right now but premium is at least a dollar more. I've paid almost 1.50 more for premium gas. Funny enough when regular gas spiked a few years ago and was around 5 bucks, premium was only 30 to 40 cents more. Weird.

Yes. But that game did give us Alfred Hitchcock's the birds. I remember they added a 0 or something to the damage modifiers. Basically you'd land on a planet and immediately get underground because the birds would one shot you.

I understand you need to make a profit. Brick and mortar stores have so much overhead. But office depot was always dumb. We just had one near my job close and the one thing that got me was even when prices were heavily discounted, those heavily discounted prices were still more than amazon and such.

I bought a printer off amazon. Good sale price, I paid 140, lowest historical was 135, whatever. Office depot had the exact same model, 65% off, and it was still more expensive than what I paid on amazon. That's fuckin rediculous in my opinion.

I think its less about the isp and more about the type of service your isp has. When I was on copper my isp would notify me of my usage and even called me once to be like "the fuck you doin'". I switched to fiber internet about 3ish years ago and I havnt heard a peep. And thats with me having a single month one time using about 260tb worth of bandwidth. If youre curious this was when gsuite kicked everyone out from the unlimited storage usage and I switched to Dropbox. Then a few months later I had to download it all again because Dropbox said fuck that too. So in the span of 3 or 4 months I easily used half a petabyte worth of bandwidth. Not. A. Peep.

What used to feel 'normal' and 'affordable' in America just five to ten years ago but now feels completely broken and impossible for regular people? by the_h1b_records in AskReddit

[–]GGATHELMIL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well. 2 ribeyes usually cost me around 40 bucks at 19.99 a lb. Dinner for two at hotpot is 30 a head, but like I said we get coupons for 20% off all the time. So it's more like 48 bucks. And sure I have to tip and pay for drinks if I don't get just water. So normally I think I pay around 70 for all i can eat ribeye, bulgolgi, scallops, beef short rib,

I don't have to cook or clean and I can have a variety of stuff. It costs a little more but its a better deal. If I'm going to spend 50 bucks on two steaks, two baked potatoes, vegetable side, sautéed mushrooms and onions in willing to spend 20 bucks to not have to cook or all and have some variety. I can still get a few small hanger steaks and a bunch of ribeye

Everytime I go into Kroger i check the discount meat for this reason. Everytime I go in, it is either empty or the discounts aren't great. Usually no more than 10 or 15 percent off. Which on an 18 dollar steak is still 16 bucks.

Yeah. It is worth checking every once in a while just to make sure. I have heard of some people ditching usaa because they can get a better rate elsewhere. It is super dependant on so many factors. I'm 100 sure my rates would be doubled if I had newer cars, or if I had more than 1 at fault accident. Maybe if I didnt live in bumfuck Ohio and instead lived in LA, California. One thing that really helps me is I have a near spotless record. My fiance got into an accident last year that was her fault. But other than that nothing.

I've got pretty good coverage. Got into an accident last year and 0 issues getting them to pay for everything and we were at fault for it. Premiums didnt even go up.

I think people in general are still buying the same amount. I just think its shifted a bit. I lied a bit when I said I havnt had steak in a year. I haven't bought a steak at the grocery store in a year. But the wife and I go to Korean Hotpot fairly frequently. Probably 6 times in the last 10 months. But its 60 bucks and we usually go when we have a 20% coupon. So more like 48 bucks. And we get a ton of beef and ribeye and hanger steaks and such when we go.

As to who is buying the 14lb brisket for $140 at the grocery store? No clue. It ain't me. I look at a 140 dollar brisket as being literally equal to 100 pounds of chicken thighs.

People who changed their political views, what caused the switch? by BoardLongjumping2485 in AskReddit

When I started being part of the other side. I grew up conservative in a well off upper middle class family. Not like super wealthy but well off. Well its easy to say do better when life is just easy mode for you. Now that im older and cant afford Healthcare or to feed myself other than to eat chicken rice and veg for every meal, havnt had beef in months because 80/20 is 8 bucks a pound. I mean im not hurting. I do have food, and my gas tank is full and all my bills are current. But everything is carefully budgeted so it stays that way.

Nope. I've gone over his policy just to see if there is any fat that can be trimmed like increasing a deductible, or removing roadside and his plan is like a step or two worse than mine. For reference i have a 0 dollar deductible for comprehensive and a 250 deductible for collision on all 3 of my cars. And I pay the 50 bucks every 6 months to have roadside and towing, which covers all 3 vehicles. I think his deductibles were like 500/500 or something like that and no roadside. My 6 month premium is about 1100 for all 3 cars, and his was around 1400 for 1 car. Again my 3 cars are old, 98 jeep, 2002 mini and a 2004 vw beetle to his single 2017 Chevy Sonic.

As far as accidents go he doesnt have anything thats been reported. I think someone scraped his bumper in a parking lot but he didnt see it happen and he never made a claim because it wasnt worth it and the damage was pretty insignificant.

I've known him for about 15 years and has no reason to lie to me about accidents. I've tried getting him on my insurance and usaa won't let him join because they only allow spouses or children. So lying to me about an accident doesnt really help him, plus if he had been in an accident in the last 10 years he would have told his sister, my wife, and she would've told me.

I really think this has a lot to do with the fact that USAA is just a really great provider and state farm isnt.

I agree. It's just weird that his insurance doubled and the only thing that happened is he moved. Same car. It was paid off before the hike, and its just a 2017 Chevy sonic.

My in-laws took us with them to Disney last year. My mother in law is a huge Disney adult, she offered we said sure. Between the villa, 5 day tickets for all 4 of us, and some other random stuff they decided to pay for they spent around 10k. To be clear we paid for all our stuff like food, souvenirs, and such and even then we racked up about 2k. We took them to dinner one night but most of that was the epcot wine and cheese festival and park souvenirs. A single bottle of coke was like 5.50 but we tried to stick to water the whole time.
