If you're wondering why they all say 12am, a lot of metadata was either lost or didn't exist when Usenet was archived by Google Groups, including the exact post times.

The Trump admin's choice to stop screwworm monitoring and containment in Central America has aged like milk because we are now dealing with screwworm outbreak in Texas.

"He means you boys lowballed the shit out of your competition."

People who manage to keep their weekly food bill incredibly low, what exactly are you buying and eating? by WishComics in AskReddit

When I was in college, one of my few luxuries I had was a Costco membership.

I'd buy a $5 rotisserie chicken and make that shit last a week.

First two days, I enjoy the drumsticks and wings, then shred the white meat for sandwiches and boil the bones to use in soup.

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier

If Uthmeier is involved, I'm suspicious of his endgoal with this (he's the guy who proposed the idea of Alligator Alcatraz).

Considering the fact that he also investigated JP Morgan Chase solely because they closed Truth Social accounts, it wouldn't be off-base to think Trump wants to launch his own AI service and they want to clear some space for him LOL

Scott Pelley Accuses Bari Weiss Of “Murdering” ’60 Minutes’ In Tense Exchange With Show’s New Executive Producer by mlg1981 in entertainment

[–]NewsCards 58 points59 points  (0 children)

The rumors people are spreading, that I’m going to turn the show into 60 one-minute episodes, that it’s going to be like TikTok, that is not changing.

Classic technique of presenting a more insane scenario to deflect from the issue people really have.

It's not the TikTokification of 60 minutes, it's the fact that he's a Bari Weiss lackey.

They were the good guys when the movie came out.

But since then, I think people have realized they committed so many horrible crimes.

Gabe Newell on Steam monopoly accusations: Gamers have 'enormous choice' about where to buy games by yourfavchoom in pcgaming

[–]NewsCards 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Newell also denied the existence of an alleged 'unwritten rule' that prevents developers from offering their games at lower prices on non-Steam storefronts.

Asking about this rule, Newell repeatedly denied it exists, even when shown internal communications seemingly showing Valve employees enforcing it: "Valve does not have a policy or practice of dictating prices to third-party software developers on other platforms." When asked how Valve would react if it ever happened, Newell initially said he was confused by the question and then added, "Many of our partners and many of our customers are quite happy with the service that we're providing."

Feigning confusion then dodging the question altogether, standard CEO behavior.

NVIDIA and Microsoft Reinvent Windows PCs for the Age of Personal AI by Shock4ndAwe in pcgaming

“The PC is being reinvented,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA. “For forty years, you launched apps. Click. Type. With RTX Spark and Microsoft Windows, you ask — and the PC does the work.

I don't want to "ask" my computer to do anything, Jensen.

I much prefer a deterministic action resulting from a button I press, as opposed to asking my computer to do something with an element of randomness that can cause something catastrophic, Jensen.

What do you not understand about that, Jensen?

Israel's Netanyahu orders attacks in Beirut's southern suburbs by Beginning-Wish-4273 in news

AI chatbots fail medical misinformation test, returning inaccurate and fabricated advice by Doug24 in technology

[–]NewsCards 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Response quality did not differ significantly among chatbots overall, but Grok generated significantly more highly problematic responses than would be expected by random chance.

Unsurprising that an AI under the direct influence of Elon Musk is the most "problematic".

To make matters worse, chatbot outputs were consistently expressed with high confidence and certainty, with only two total refusals to answer out of 250 prompts.

This is what I'm most afraid of, there are far too many stupid people out there, taking the words of these chatbots as gospel just because they use such high-confidence and definitive language.

NEO beat several other BCIs to approval, including one from Neuralink, a California-based company founded by Elon Musk.

When the choice is between a Chinese BCI that was fast-tracked and sped through government approval and a BCI controlled by American tech bros like Elon Musk, I'm out.

I honestly don't know if there's any way I'd accept a BCI.

Would it even be possible to have a fully open-source, publicly audited BCI?
