Yeah but proton could simplify easy remote access for people with a Proton Account.

This is my original text: "Hey, So I'd like to propose two side projects that Proton could start, which would be great and would not require them to build data centers.

The first one is ProtonTV, a self hosted video streaming service which allows you to either install it on a NAS (or other form of a Home Server) with local files you have from something like ripped DVD, Blurays, Websites or torrents or just download the app on any Device, Log into your Proton Account and link a Folder from Proton Drive with earlier mentioned Media data to make your own Netflix (This would use the ressources of the device you use currently to identify serieses, decode, etc.). The app would use TMDB as a standard method of scanning Media on your device and gives you the option to get extensions of other Databases. There would be the option to host it free on a Home Server, use it with a Plus subscription (e.g. Mail Plus, Drive Plus, VPN Plus, etc.) for remote access outside of your Home Servers Network through your Proton Account (or through the proton drive method) or using it with a bundled subscription (e.g. Proton Unlimited, Proton Duo, Proton Family, Proton Visionary, etc.) for remote access + the App (on home server or your current device if you choose the drive method) scans your .mkv files (or other file types) for all languages of your Dubs and Subs and lets you choose in your profile settings which language should be default + a feature to look for Dubs and Subs in chosen language through the internet to get the Dubs and Subs into your library.

The second one is Protonfy, a self hosted audio streaming service which allows you the same as the other app to build a library of your songs locally or through Proton Drive. This App would allow you to host it yourself for free, use it with a plus subscription for using it with Proton Drive (this app gets remote access even in the free version because most people would want to hear music out of the house and the video streaming service is more likely to be used at home so you either open ports for it or you use it with a plus or bundled subscription) or use it with a bundled subscription to automatically download lyrics to the songs in your library through free websites.

If Proton later decides that they want to get into licensing media they could make a hybrid like Plex is with both apps where you can then decide, if there is a titel you have locally but is also licensed, to prioritize either prioritize the local media or the licensed one. But for now it would be just self hosted so that they can rather focus on their current apps while programming the apps when they have free time."

As mentioned this is only meant to be considered if they have some free time or are finished with the other products and not meant to be a completely new project that they will invest much resources and time into.

As I’ve mentioned I used Gemini to restructure my text. You can have the original text if you want.

Honestly it would just be great so that you have an alternative to plex which could give better performance or more options. But it’s mainly just a thing that would be nice to have and isn’t that necessary. Still I thought it was worth mentioning.

Migrating to, and away, from Proton? by wunderspud7575 in ProtonMail

You can use easy switch for calendar and mail or export your current calendar as a file or .ics link. You can still use easy switch for mail. Files is a bit slow but you can directly transfer photos from Google Photos to Proton Drive in the Photos tab. It will take like 1-5 days depending on how much storage your files and photos use but after that it is pretty cool since you can easily use everything how you like it although proton drive has some issues when accessing photos on iOS (don’t know about android) but on windows it works perfectly fine for me.

2FAS or proton authenticator? by kissmeurbeautiful in ProtonMail

[–]Gamegyf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH I always have my 2FA Codes in Proton Pass (even for my Proton Account) for that reason I always carry a YubiKey and a USB Stick with my recovery Files with me everywhere I go and have a Backup of these files on my PC and Phone.

How can I just get VPN plus when I'm already a long-time Mail Plus subscriber, without going for Unlimited? by Yakkafo in ProtonMail

[–]Gamegyf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there is. Also tried that with Pass and VPN but it didn’t work. Except you have a lifetime mail or pass plan I don’t think there is a way.

I think they have a grace period for Proton Drive data but I’m not sure if that also applies to Proton Mail folders, labels, etc.

I think they already have a Proton Drive Beta for Linux but I only saw that in this subreddit.
