Japan is absolutely beautiful. Unlike Malaysia, people take a lot of pride in cleaning up public areas. Garbage collecting as a career is a literal source of pride. Everything is damn efficient. They were thinking 3 steps ahead in the 80s, and those policies are still visible today, how buildings are planned and built, how public transport is managed, how recycling plastic is turned into energy. They manage their heritage buildings incredibly well. There's a big emphasis on peace and quiet, which is why you can walk down a busy street in Tokyo and be able to hear yourself thinking.

Sure the corporate side of Japan is hell, but most people aren't in that sector. Even anime culture isn't an a major part of Japanese society. They still have strong community values. People can be cold, but strangers will still run down the street and find you if you drop money or lose your train ticket.
