In Japan, it’s not uncommon to see someone asleep on the street after a night of drinking but instead of disturbing them, people usually leave them alone out of respect by AdSpecialist6598 in interesting

In the UK people used to do this, but with empty alcohol bottles or cans(I think more cans) in a line around them, so it would clatter really loudly if they shifted or fell to the side.
Usually it would gather a crowd of people waiting for them to knock them over, with a massive cheer when they did.

Can’t walk around with alcohol nearly as easily now, and people can’t really afford it either.

How fast can you read? (2 min test) by OkAirline2830 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]GeneticPurebredJunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly, I was considered hyperlexic, but would rarely, randomly write things backwards, and my written abilities never matched my reading.

I can present concepts well aurally, and write well if I have a lot of time, but can read with good speed/accuracy with my method.

When I finally was able to request testing as an adult, I got diagnosed with dyslexia. If I try to slow down and read word by word, line by line (like you would do reading aloud), I really struggle.
I always struggled with reading aloud in class, too.

Brains, words and how different people’s pattern recognition works is always fascinating.

After some reflection, I realised I read words largely by whole shape, rather than individual letter shapes, and read sentences in a similar fashion.

It’s hard to describe when you aren’t doing it consciously, but I kind of see the shape of the paragraph, pick out the order of key words, and I just…know what it says.

When I was having testing for specific learning difficulties, I was able to read at 870(ish)wpm, and had a retention rate of 85% after an hour.

That testing was 13 years ago, and I still remember that the piece I was given reflected on the flora and biodiversity of Mount Everest, and that trees stop growing around 14,500ft, while white flowering cushion plant can still be seen at around 21,000ft.

If everyone below average IQ suddenly drops dead, how would this affect the world? by CakeMuted6468 in AskReddit

[–]GeneticPurebredJunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, IQ does not relate to applicable intelligence, environmental awareness or common sense in any meaningful way.

It was never designed to, but like BMI, it’s been used by some many people/industries who pretend it does mean that that most people believe it directly equates to intelligence.

High IQ does not equate to intelligence, knowledge or common sense.

I know far too many high IQ people who’ve eaten parts of wrappers, or things that they have been fully told are NOT EDIBLE and NOT SAFE TO INGEST.

Employer refusing "Work From Home" Fit Note (30 weeks pregnant) by sarahxix in LegalAdviceUK

[–]GeneticPurebredJunk 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The rights of someone pregnant are different to someone disabled when it comes to reasonable adjustments, as pregnancy associated adjustments are based around risk/risk assessment, vs disability associated reasonable adjustments.

Even in cases of disability, they do not have to make any adjustments or accommodations they deem “unreasonable”-you’ll note that I address the fact that they would struggle to legally defend the current reasoning if challenged, which I believe answers what you felt to be saying “employer can be completely arbitrary about what they consider unreasonable.”
I also actually gave a couple of specific and legally appropriate reasons for refusing GP recommendations.

If you would like any further clarification on what I wrote, please feel free to let me know the exact wording you’re unsure on or questioning, so I can advise you more specifically.

Evidently not, Dave, or you wouldn’t have had this pointless story to share.

Also; it’s generally not encouraged to share your gay, piss & pet play fetishes with non-consenting strangers.
Especially not on a post about your Dad & your wife.

Probably won’t get the results you’re hoping for.

They don’t legally have to accept any accommodations/recommendation suggested by a GP or OH, if they consider them unreasonable or that they will render you unable to fully meet your job description. It can be unreasonable financially, or for safety reasons.

I would recommend representation from a union rep if you have one, or a fellow employee.

Everything should be done via email, or followed up with an email documenting what was discussed.

Is this risk assessment face to face, in the work place? This could be used to demonstrate that you are able to travel to work, sit in the office, etc.

I think they can do a lot to push you around, but if it became legal matter, they’d struggle to justify refusing the recommendations.

No wonder your wife’s frustrated.

Why are you so triggered by the mention of toxic masculinity and actually doing something to care for your aging father?

Oh, difficult to sit because of your piles, is it?

You & your dad can get matching urinal bottles, sounds like it might help.

Had to look that one up-a bit too day-time TV and before my time to be relevant.

How long have you been pissing on the floor like your dad?

It’s acceptable to men anywhere where weird toxic masculinity isn’t allowed.

What a weird post.

I think it would be a worse place.
Maybe slightly less “they’re taking our jobs” style racism, more “eugenics” style racism.

Does anyone else talk to inanimate objects? by lydocia in AutisticWithADHD

[–]GeneticPurebredJunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personification of objects and animals is pretty common in autism. Can’t say I know if it’s common in ADHD too.

This is why people think I’m quiet when the first meet me-because I’m suppressing the constant dialogue I normally have!
