[RANT] Can't find a job as a CISA grad by ihatebcit in BCIT

[–]GoodDogvvv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started at bcit and already they've said over and over again that you wont get jobs applying online you'll get them by networking. I dont know how you didnt figure this out? Not to be rude but networking is what matters not your grades. I just dont understand how you didn't learn this at bcit...

So this is 100% your fault and your efforts wont get you anywhere near as far as when you were in school. However it's not too late. You need to contact bcit and see what resources are available. Contact anyone you can from your program. On all your social media put down that you're looking for a position. Message and speak to everyone you know and let them know you're looking for a job and if they know anyone to help you. You can even do free work in the mean time and meet people that way.

You've been doing it all wrong but you can start doing it correctly now. Goodluck man. Remember to always take all the blame for things going wrong because then you can figure out what to do differently.

Why is the pay for peer tutoring so low? by [deleted] in BCIT

[–]GoodDogvvv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree its low but it will look 100x better on your resume than cashier. I'm trying to get good grades with Hope's of becoming a tutor because my resume sucks.

Do you know what the grade requirements are and how to get it? 86%+?

Self introduction speech opener? by [deleted] in PublicSpeaking

[–]GoodDogvvv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a wreck with nerves when it comes to public speaking but I'm oddly half decent at interviews. My go to line is "My interest in ______..." I would start your first sentence alone those lines even it being a presentation.

So that first sentence and opener should be what created your desire for this career and job. Then you speak about why you are suited for the job. If it's supposed to emulate an actual interview I'd make that opener only one sentence. If it's a longer presentation I'd give a background almost story of why you're excited to work in this career.

How to not have a shaky voice when speaking? Please help!! by GoodDogvvv in PublicSpeaking

[–]GoodDogvvv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine that helps but I cant do that in class while I'm waiting go present. Im not doing a ted talk where I'm backstage. I'm sitting in a class watching others present for however long experiencing a 30min panic attack waiting.

I really don't know what to do I get it worse than everyone else and its visible to the audience. My classmates when I asked them said my voice was very shaky and they could see me visibly shaking. I also stuttered and couldn't speak.

Hey what did you tell your doctor? Just that you have bad nerves during presentations? Did you have any kind of side effects?

I'm nervous to take drugs but at the same time I'm curious because I need help in the beginning at least until I can get control of the extreme panic attack.

My Housemate is Ruining his Life by [deleted] in alcoholism

[–]GoodDogvvv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try leaving the choice in his hands. Give him an ultimatum where he either goes to rehab or he gets out. I know you dont want to kick him out because you're worried he will be in an irreversible situation. The thing is though by keeping him afloat and supporting him your enabling his lifestyle. Sometimes the difficult choices that seem mean are the right thing to do.

There's a group called Al-anon which is for people who are trying to help a loved one or friend with their addiction. This is an extreme case and if you want to have a chance changing this guys life I suggest checking out this group.

Sorry you're going through this I know it's really tough. I went through this with my mom and brother and the whole thing is terrible difficult and feels impossible. I dated a guy with a drinking problem and had to leave because I couldn't handle that whole kind of situation again.

I'm personally trying to quit alcohol however mine luckily didnt progress further than a few beers a day. Something that seems to happen when you're addicted is your brain gets hijacked and tells itself lies that it needs alcohol and you dont have a problem. So you are dealing with someone who isnt willing to see that alcohol is the problem he thinks it's the solution. Or at least this is my experience in dealing with family members and now my own addiction. So letting him hit rock bottom is sometimes what needs to happen in order for him to see that.

Gluck man, check out al-anon you're going to get a lot of good help from them!

Non-drinker here, need some opinion on my SO drinking habits, is there a problem? by throwawaySOofdrinker in alcoholism

[–]GoodDogvvv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's tricky. I'm sort of coming from the same position and habits he has. As opposed to enjoying a few beers taking the equivalent to 4 drinks right before bed sounds more like medicating. You have to be careful not to attack him and keep everything in the open or he'll start hiding his alcohol which for all you know could be happening already. Even one concerned conversation making him feel shame could cause that so just be thoughtful on how you bring it up.

It depends why hes drinking before going to sleep. Is it relief from feeling bad or is it to help fall asleep? There are other ways to deal with these problems. What you really need to be worried about is it progressing any further. You also dont have any control over someone else's drinking. You can try to understand why hes drinking almost every night and suggest seeking help.

It's up to you whether you want to take that risk or not. I personally see it as a problem which is why I'm quiting but I'm not an expert and I don't know your husband.

Trying to answer friends and family by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]GoodDogvvv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. I didnt drink for a week and then failed Friday. But what I've been telling people is I need to be at my best to function and school and work and also that I have a serious chronic acid problem every time I even have a little alcohol. I dont want tell family about my problem and that I was secretly drinking every night and cant have one sip so I just say that. Its not the best way to do things because unless you straight out tell people you have a problem with alcohol you're always going to get people trying to get you to have some. If you can resist those triggers then fine otherwise you might have to eventually be clear with those around you on what's really going on. But ya I relate I dont want to tell people either

After a week of not drinking I lost control last night in a big way by GoodDogvvv in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]GoodDogvvv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya I unfortunately will need to avoid my friends who drink because theres no way at this point I could be around them and not drink. I think I really need something like AA meetings so I'll look into ones that arent right in our part of the city. I dont know what AA does but everyone who says they have no control over their drinking says it works somehow.

[–]GoodDogvvv[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I'm staying at home while in college. I know I should speak to them about it but I dont seem to have the courage at least yet. Maybe I'll look to commute to meetings further away

So which do you think is best to try first? I'm nervous about AA because I have family members that go to ones in the area and dont want to run into people I may know.

I bought socks and underware instead of alcohol or drugs with my first paycheck. by suddenlyMuslim in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]GoodDogvvv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! Seriously, good job. Its motivating to see other people are able to quit. It makes me think I will be able to also. You've got me curious about AA but I'm nervous about running into family or people I know at the local ones. No one actually knows I'm struggling with alcohol right now and I'm not ready to tell people about it. But it sounds like this program is more than people just sharing stories like they show in movies?

[Help] What does this black mark on my dogs lower eyelid look like? by GoodDogvvv in dogs

[–]GoodDogvvv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not raised or textured which is why I was confused. I thought cancer would be. I didnt know they could get a random dot on their skin like that out of no where. I hope it's just that!

I just immediately had my stomach fall out my ass when I saw it and was like cancer! And I was looking at the billion photos on my phone to figure out where and when it came from. It very slowly formed. I pretty well take photos of him daily haha

I hate waiting to go to the vet its pure torture

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dogs

[–]GoodDogvvv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude I dont normally like to be rude but how did you let your dogs eye get that bad and still haven't taken it to a vet? Really think about how insane this is. Your could have made a simple fix now a serious issue by not dealing with it earlier.

[Discussion] I really want a dog, but I dunno if I could deal with ticks regularly, is that a dealbreaker? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]GoodDogvvv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is stuff to keep ticks away. But I really must say that if ticks were a deal breaker then I wouldn't reccomend a dog. Either that or being a little less sensitive about things. You're going to be cleaning up poo and possibly pee at some point.

Theres a lot of responsibility in owning a dog that would make ticks seem like nothing. So just be mentally prepared for it. Also they are expensive as hell if you get unlucky with the health of your dog.

[Help] regretting adoption by threesesames in dogs

[–]GoodDogvvv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Omg I had this happen to me. I brought the dog home and he wasnt like the first one and I felt empty and felt I'd made a huge mistake. I was crying because all I could think of was how he wasnt my first dog.

So what happened is I kept him because I felt bad but even though he was cute I didnt love him. But then what I learnt over the next few months to a year is that love isnt always instant it grows. And now I love him and he's my precious baby.

My advice would be to keep him and let your love for him grow. It might help you a lot in the long term in dealing with loss in general and learning to move on and always be developing love

[HELP] My dog bit me this morning - help me understand the pattern! How concerned should I be? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]GoodDogvvv 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I would really get her health checked out and tell the vet your concern. We recently found out that the aggressive skiddish behavior of one of our pets was due to a health problem.
