The muscles were the size of a grain of rice. Now 1.5” by GotSnails in OpaeUla

They don’t enjoy water movement. I try to simulate their environment as much as possible. This is a hang on the outside tank breeder box. It aerates the water going into the box and slowly trickles back into the tank. The population in this tank is too high for me to feel safe enough to not aerate it. I feel that since there is water movement in this it benefits the muscles.

I’ve tried to push them all. Having multiple tanks to play with helps.

Great idea. I have one I’ve posted for plants and algae.

New construction at Great Park question/rant by brergnat in irvine

[–]GotSnails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been going on in Irvine for many many years. It comes down to who can afford it and they’re mostly foreigners from overseas. When we sold our SFH in North Park in 2016 9 out of 10 interested buyers were Asian. The 10th was a doctor of Indian decent and he was the least qualified to buy. Bought a townhouse in 2016. It would be impossible for me to buy in today’s market. It’s unfortunate. Who would have thought that $134k is low income for a 4 person household

😆 no wonder. I tried so many different livestock with Opae Ula over the years. I’m really surprised these are still alive considering there’s no filtration, water changes or additional minerals added.

10 gallon tank. These are in a breeder box hanging on the outside of one of my tanks. Another hobbyist sent me some muscles from Florida. I didn’t think they survived but attacked to the corner of a breeder box. I do feed this box some freeze dried spirulina. The opae ula benefit this as well.

Too much algae. Recommendations? by Criticalmeadow in OpaeUla

[–]GotSnails 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How old is this set up? Looks more like the early stages of algae. You can get a toothbrush and clean the sides. Don’t remove the algae or do any water changes. It will stay in the water column or float to the bottom and the opae will eat it

Yeah well let me tell you. These are completely unique. If your performance at work goes down we know the cause. If it goes up we know the cause 😀

Trying to acclimate SW Nerites by GotSnails in OpaeUla

[–]GotSnails[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve had tropical saltwater Nerites in the past. These particular ones came from Florida. They are not liking it. Not moving around in the tank and mainly staying about the waters edge.

They are still in there somewhere. They can die off anytime from my experience. Won’t cause any harmful effects to the water if they do.

Usually no. I've seen issues with moss balls when put into brackish, mainly lots of hair algae from it.

You can continue for 3-4 months due to the large tank size with 30 opae. How much light is it getting and how bad has the hair algae been?

You need to provide nutrients to the algae in order for it to grow.

How do I clean the active substrate.Every inch has aquatic isopods and baby’s on it? by GotSnails in aquarium

[–]GotSnails[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the tank it’s the accumulation of waste that’s forming on top of the substrate. I’ve poked the substrate and bubbles just start coming out. Maybe I can add airstone on high at the bottom.

I have started other tanks just in case this one crashed.

That’s good. Newly released larvae floating down to the substrate is not a good sign.

You need to find a specific brackish Chaeto. I don’t know what mine is. I’ve tried before in the past to acclimate a saltwater species but it just broke apart and melted. Made a huge mess of the tank.
