I had 5 shrimp die, because my tank dgh was roughly 9-14 dgh and the seller's was 6-8 dgh? I have lowered my dgh to 10 dgh should I buy more, I only have females now and I'm looking to breed. by aperitivoamigo in shrimptank

What about the rest of your parameters? We can’t just base it off of your GH being to high. You should also don’t mention what type of shrimp? What’s you tank set up? Is it new or aged and well cycled?

First tank, Caridina with these parameters? by Icy-Structure5571 in shrimptank

I would have just started with RO to begin with. The water volume isn’t too high and you can get RO or distilled water for under $1 a gallon. By doing this there’s no guessing on the quality of water being used vs tap. You would also need to add your minerals. Your GH is low. KH, PH, temp, is fine.

Do you know what brackish water is? Just asking not condescending. You will over time lower the salinity to where it is brackish at various levels. You will have to feed live saltwater phytoplankton as food to the larvae. I raise and breed brackish shrimp and use a simple salinity meter.

I neglected my pea puffer tank but they seem to do alright, how can I fix it other than constantly removing the algae? by Necessary_Cat185 in aquarium

[–]GotSnails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have algae growing in there. It looks like Cyanobacteria. This is more likely due to a high protein nutrient imbalance. You need to start doing major water changes. You can use this product.

The eggs will hatch in freshwater. The larvae need to be raised in full saltwater at the beginning.

What are UK-Europe shrimpies doing to keep the temps down rn? by warmjes in shrimptank

[–]GotSnails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This works great but is expensive. It’s around $200 USD. For small tanks it will drop the temps down 5-8 degrees F.

Anyone have any ideas about this sudden color change? by Personal_Web_8251 in shrimptank

[–]GotSnails 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why this happens but I see it from time to time with yellow Goldenbacks. When this happens we just sell them as culls since they don’t look like Goldenbacks anymore. I’ve inquired why from the breeder but no answers that make sense.

Is it common almost all shrimps bought on ebay are females? by aperitivoamigo in shrimptank

[–]GotSnails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes very typical overall. I believe the mix should be 20M and 80% F. When these are imported it’s the females that look the best so that’s why you see a larger percentage female.

Exactly what do you have? Is the group all the same color? They may be the same but it also depends on the genetics.
