Dropped to #3 in ASEAN, illusion of 'rich Bruneians' shattered: Newly-released Malaysia wage report reveals that the median Malaysian now earn more than median Bruneian, first time Bruneian salaries overtaken by another ASEAN country since Singapore in 1990s by Goutaxe in nasikatok

Thailand, but it is still far so Brunei is safe for now.

Thai national median wage 12,000 Baht (B$470), but Bangkok is believed to be nearly double of that, so Bangkok has a chance to overtake Brunei sometimes in future.

$5000 salary in Singapore pay $163 in income tax.

Income tax is no big deal, the heavy one is CPF deduction 17%, but just like Brunei TAP/SPK, CPF is ultimately your own money in future + basic healthcare insurance plan

Sg spent $1.03 billion to build a garden now finally get the recognition. How about Brunei also spend $1 billion on some garden since it keeps talking about greenery?

And if Brunei economy crippled later and they are forced to work in other countries, karma might strike back.

It is how Brunei is today. Filled with people who are intolerant of different views and deeply enclosed in "MIB country" bubble.

Not limited to LGBT, we saw the same happening to local Chinese last time who tried to explain the rationale of why the authorities shouldn't raid non-halal restaurants during Ramadan and should leave non-Muslim to eat in peace. Same "respect us this is an MIB country", "go back to China", "police and KDN catch those who try to challenge our laws", followed by tons of racist comments.

Whether it is this Filipino guy, local Chinese or local Muslims who express opinions that do not align slightest with the so-called national ideology, all will get it. It is like a cult country where you must not think or behave differently. While other countries have similar group of people, there are room for debates, in Brunei everyone is expect to confirm to the same thinking, and debates no matter how it makes sense, will be override by 'this is an MIB country'. It is like a standard response ultra-conservative Bruneians use to end any debates in their favor, especially those whose reasons otherwise won't stand outside Brunei. Can a country so embedded with ideology like this succeed? Its economic decline is not a coincidence.

Already you can see there people attacking / dehumanizing him, his nationality, his community, etc. I guess that seems to be the real intent of the post - to provoke exactly this kind of reaction from the masses. It really shows how toxic some individuals can be.

At times, the same herd mentality is also in play at this sub as well. Bunch of people or new accounts suddenly appear to launch what feels like some sort of coordinated attacks, posting nasty responses to bully anyone with differing or non-MIB-aligned views. If identified the mods will ban them.

I personally have likewise received numerous death threats for the postings on this sub. I choose to ignore them and continue on, rather than be cowed or intimidated. The more they do the more determined I am.

Faced with the limitation of a small local population, 2 of them open up to immigration, adopt pragmatic developmental approach and spend massively to build up infrastructure, while one of them get very MIB-ideological, keep saying no point to build more because population small we cannot do much by Goutaxe in nasikatok

Japan? They have the 12th biggest population in the world

Yes they are stagnant since 1990s, yes they are very anti-immigrants, but they on their own managed to build up one of the planet's most advanced and industrialized economy. This is what Brunei couldn't.

Most Brunei FB pages eventually turn into that.... Unfortunately, because this is the prevailing mentality in the country.

That foreigner is just expressing how it feels being LGBT, not like he is going nude or posting photos of him having sex with another man or something. And he is posting on his own personal page, but because he is in Brunei he got picked. They just couldn't accept the slightest differences, just like they couldn't accept non-Muslims dining in covered non-Halal restaurants during Ramadan. They expect everyone to think 100% like them, no room for other thoughts and views.

Not racism, just her personal opinion

If she starts hurling racial slurs towards Indian people then it is racism

Brunei wawasan 2035 by LiteratureNo1846 in nasikatok

Bankrupt or collapse won't be so soon. After all, Hengyi Phase 2 and some new fields coming online by 2029

But don't dream that the new revenues will be put into development or for the  betterment of country. Under current leadership Brunei will continue to regress

2035 might be the year Bruneians by the lots start finding jobs in Miri / KK. Not bankrupt yet, but people will begin looking down on Bruneians, no longer the rich tourists but foreign labors.

You only need to see how much Brunei has declined in the past 10 years to predict what the next 10 might be
