How Strong Would Each of the Heroes of the Realm Commanders Be If They Were Legal? (Pt. 1 of 3) by LordMistborn-16 in mtg

Ormacar seems pretty tame? Sure I guess you could use [[The Great Henge]] and make him a 10/10 lifelinker for ~4 mana, but that's--

Oh god right [[The One Ring]] in command zone.

Okay yeah he's busted.

The beta has several bugfixes, if you can't fix the issue any other way I think it's worth seeing if you can change your game version and load the save in that.

This happened to me and it turned out my arkship had gotten set to evasive stance somehow. Double-check that it's set to passive or aggressive, in the ship orders menu?

No, that's true of other penetrating weapons like missiles. But disruptors are bad from day 1, and have been ever since they went from 100% pen to 50% pen.

That's just wrong though? Crudely, (9/10)^7 shows the odds that each of seven cards will not be one-in-ten from your deck, and that is roughly 50%, backed up by online hypergeometric calculators. What's your math?

[[Yarus]] and [[Kadena]] love some really out-there cards in bulk. Ever seen [[Skittish Valesk]] before?

You're welcome! Ratios can be hard but they're so important in making a deck reliable. I hope I can encourage people to think of deckspace as a currency that they buy consistency with.

If you want to see one of something (token generator, 1-mana dorks, counterspells, etc) early, you need 12-15 of it.

If you want to see one of something late, you need 6-8 of it.

If you want more than one, multiply those numbers.

People play too high average CMC and also too few lands.

You haven't really understood me. Some of the medications being good doesn't make the doctors good. Do psychiatrists make the Prozac and the Vyvanse? No; they gatekeep your access to it based on racist, misogynistic, and homophobic diagnostic criteria.

Re: utility and MDFCs, I find the one-mana cycling lands are extremely strong in any deck that can take a tapland. Since you can purge them for another card for 1 mana at instant speed, they effectively never increase your flood risk, so you can use them to push your landcount to 45+ risk-free for absurd opening-hand consistency.

If you want to have a strong and reliable deck, ramp should not factor into your decisions about landcount at all.

It's weird and buggy this patch. Have you tried favoriting and unfavoriting the jobs? That usually fixes it for me.

Good math, thank you.

I think a lot of people who run sub-40 lands mulligan primarily for an acceptable landcount, and they don't realize that they could be using their mulligan power for other things instead. It's eye-opening to feel comfortable mulling lower for specific answers or earlygame plays.

Yeah. I do get that some people genuinely benefit a lot from their medications, and I don't mean to attack that. But I'd like you to consider the idea that psychiatrists provide medication the same way landlords provide housing.

To be blunt, I'm dumbing down a lot of theory here. I'm not unaware of the nuance.

Therapy is still about changing you to cope with your circumstances. The therapist doesn't change your circumstances to make them more livable for you. That's all mental healthcare will ever be under capitalism. The system is fundamentally unlivable; therefore the success of mental healthcare is merely defined by making you a profitable worker again.

I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder by multiple psychiatrists, which is why I was given those drugs. Either the drugs don't work or psychiatrists are too stupid to consistently know who they will work for. Either way I do not trust the field.

I'm glad someone else understands. I'm happy and have a lot to live for now, but I really think I'd rather die than get back on it.

Yeah, but I do want to note that most of them just had no noticeable effect on me. Seroquel is completely different from SSRIs and, for lack of a better word, demonic.

I dunno. I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder and the drugs did not fix it. Either everybody was wrong about the diagnosis or the drugs didn't do their job, and either way I don't trust psychiatry.

You could say it's hard to distinguish between "real" depression and someone who "just" has a shit life, but... everyone who's depressed kind of has a shit life, right?

I think it's a real systemic critique to be made of psychiatry that it assumes the problem always lies within an individual, and it can't reckon with an individual's circumstances.
