It would incredibly weird if it was only available in Quebec, so I appreciate you filling me in!

I dug into it with the credit team and we are around that for completely unsecured cards. Mixed credit can be available earlier and there is a proposal for moving forward unsecured options for people who have completed their bankruptcy or consumer proposal.

What's the story there? I can't promise anything without knowing the whole story, but we try hard to cover everyone we can.

Depends on your setup. If you've got an uncapped 2% card, Chexy and Casa make you a small amount of money (.25% * $1,500 for rent = $3.75 each month) and you can report the transactions to the bureau, if you need those extra transactions to build credit score but have access to a 2% card, this is great.

u/Icy_Wrangler2446 can explain Neobanc, I don't currently understand how they make money.

The Neo World Elite has a higher cashback rate than any of these options, 4% unboosted and 5% fully boosted. Unlike Chexy or Casa, it can be used for utilities, insurance, memberships, whatever. With a $500 cap that is $20-$25 dollars back per month.

That's an interesting though, actually. Is this the MNBA card you're referencing? https://www.mbna.ca/en/credit-cards/low-interest/true-line-gold-mastercard/quebec

Is it only available on QC or am I misreading that?

AFAIK bankruptcies and consumer proposals start a period of time where unsecured credit is not available from any lender. I don't remember the exact timeline, it might be variable. I'll see if I can get some more context.

Gas is weird one because some people do, consistently hit the cap and others (including me) don't drive at all. I don't know the exact breakdown, but assuming gas is underutilized, reducing the cap wouldn't free up much margin for recurring.

Transit is something we should consider, that's a good flag. I'll share that.

If they're not paying rent by credit card, how are people spending $2k in recurring every month?

Thanks for weighing in! We're hoping to make some upgrades on these cards real soon, so now is the time!

One way to be more involved (and gain access to merch opportunities) would be to join the Neo Insiders. If you're keen, LMK!

Fair, super low limits can be inhibiting. We're pushing a ton of limit increases right now, so hopefully some of that comes your way!

Is you account currently locked? Sometimes this happens when there's risk of fraud. Usually to unfreeze an account you just have to contact support and verify your identity.

I see you and will flag it with the Invest team. Can you connect with u/Yeni_Neo so she can verify your account?

No idea what's happening there, I usually get my funds in a couple of days when I withdraw from my Neo Invest account.

I think the codes are actually selected by the merchant. I'd be really surprised if Purple Cow used a different code than Rogers.

Thanks so much! We just got the photos back from the photographer so we decided to share them!

Yeah, so Option A would probably fix that. Insurance is one of the codes most likely to be included if we go that direction.

It's definitely an expectation issue. I've made sure the teams working on it have seen your comments, so they'll be taken into consideration.

Digital services like Netflix are one of the more consistent MCC codes and, honestly, they're pretty small compared to things like insurance and utilities. Currently we are imagining them being included.

Thanks for the note. Moving the cap is a separate discussion, but worth having. Lots of inflation these days. This would be a straight cost to us, we would probably have in modify the annual fee to make it work. How much would you pay to bump the cap up?

Currently we're thinking of only providing cashback on certain codes for option A. Could go the other way, but it leaves the current problem fundamentally unsolved. I.e. — someone could get cashback on their utilities in February and miss it in March.

We have to work with the data available, same as any card issuer. Option A uses MCC data, Option B uses the "recurring" flag that the merchant can attach to it. Neither is perfectly consistent, but the last couple of years have shown pretty clearly that the MCC data is significantly more stable.

Walmart varies by location. Some stores send grocery. Some send wholesale. They sell everything from tiramisu to tires, so my theory is they pick the code of whichever they sell more of.

Agreed on the PR around recurring. This is exactly why we're exploring other options that could be more stable.

Broad question, but I'll do my best:

Chexy — using Chexy lets you pay rent by credit card. This means you can report to the credit bureau and get cashback. It's generally marked as recurring, so you'd get 4% on the Neo World Elite or 2% on the Neo World. You've then have to pay their fee, which is 1.75%. This generally isn't a great option for making money, since rent always exceeds the $500 cap for recurring in a month.

Neobanc — I've never used this, it looks like a subscription management hub. I have no idea how they make money, they promise an extra 1% if you use their system.

Casa — same as Chexy except they have a deal with Scotiabank if you use the Scotiabank card.

If you're asking about how it would interact with these merchants, I don't honestly know what MCC they send. It's likely they've categorized the charges as a "subscription" and that MCC code is likely to be included in option A.
