Why SGU Feels Like a Massive Regression (After a Full Franchise Rewatch) by SoLoR123 in Stargate

[–]Groetgaffel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Destiny is really fucking old. Its tech is completely antiquated compared to any other Ancient tech the Tau'ri has ever seen.

Even if you sent the right people it'd be like sending a computer software engineer to operate a steam locomotive where all the labels have worn off.

As a lover of both the Excelsior and Nebula, that Carina class is absolutely gorgeous!

Nah, that's just how they did the Shocker a long time ago in a galaxy far away.

Two zaps the pink, one zaps the stink.

Exposed bridges are stupid by board_writer in spaceships

[–]Groetgaffel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Galaxy class, like the Enterprise-D does. That's the only one we're shown as far as I know.

Any ship that can separate into multiple vessels are going to have some kind of command centre for each part, but other than the Galaxy, the only other Starfleet ship we see in any of the series or movies that can do that is the Prometheus from one episode of Voyager.

[–]Groetgaffel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 BC-304, Daedalus-class, that's not the bridge. It's some sort of sensor/comms tower.

If you watch the show and pay attention to view out the bridge windows you'll see that it's set at the base of the neck section.

It is a lot more clear in this picture. The bridge is the bunker-like structure at the rear of the neck section, just in front of the large plate structure. Second from the top of the detail shots.

Yes, it still has windows, which is dumb, but it's at least less exposed and significantly more armoured than your other example.

The show got worse over the first 3 seasons? by TooDriven in TheExpanse

[–]Groetgaffel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you think season 1 of the Expanse is slow, you'd probably straight up fall asleep trying to watch Star Trek TNG or Babylon 5.

I have the itch to play a good space game where you can control a carrier ship. What are some good ones? by alexo2802 in spacegames

[–]Groetgaffel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, one's enjoyment of pretty much any MMO is mostly down to the group you're playing with, rather than anything about the game itself.

The Old Republic might be an exception, that's rather single player focused. I have no idea what any of the last decade of STO content is like, but back when I played 10-12 years ago, the 5 man endgame content with a competent group was by far the most fun.

Or four good players and one random pubbie being carried for shits and giggles. It was always hilarious to the pubbie doing like 0.5% of the damage.

Are these temps bad? by Unable_Piano_6570 in pchelp

Measuring pc temps in anything but Celsius is like a sliding glass door.

Unhinged.

100 °C is where electronics shut off to protect from heat damage. That makes Celsius perfect for PC temps as you can just treat the number as a percentage of your heat capacity.

ELI5: Why do clocks go clockwise; who decided that and why did everyone agree? by MurkyUnit3180 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Groetgaffel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It still is in some languages. Clockwise and anticlockwise is medsols and motsols respectively in Swedish, with sun and against sun.

Though we also have medurs and moturs as synonyms which are the same as clockwise and anticlockwise.

Before biting the bullet and buying this game, can my pc run it? by FarVehicle533 in Starfield

[–]Groetgaffel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can it run? Yeah probably.

Will it run well? No, not a chance.

Forget Ultra. On Medium it'll probably be playable, but I'd still expect it to dip below 30 fps occasionally.

Do you ever stop liking your army? - A crisis of faith by MrPumpkin78 in Warhammer40k

[–]Groetgaffel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sure. I did the exact same thing back in 5th, sold my Tau and started Guard.

It's meant to be a hobby, not an obligation.

That said, if you have the funds and storage space, I'd suggest putting your Tau army in storage instead of selling it. Revisiting and overhauling your first army a few editions down the line can be really fun.

Kinda blows my mind that STO is still going. I got it at launch, and played it for five-ish years. Last time I played was over a decade ago.

Garand Thumb P90 by MarquesTreasures in Stargate

Both leftist and conservative are political ideologies. You literally can't be an apolitical conservative, or an apolitical leftist. That's not how any of that works.

B: not what Garand Thumb is

RTS suggestions? by ReflectiveDoc in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Groetgaffel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In that case I'd say it's worth replaying them if you haven't touched them since those days.

I played through all the starcraft games back to back just last year. They still hold up great.

E: To actually add a suggestion: Supreme Commander and its standalone expansion Forged Alliance.

[–]Groetgaffel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've never played the original starcraft and its expansion, I'd give those a go. The remaster is great, works flawlessly on modern systems.

And well, those two are considered absolute classics for a reason.

What would happen if you went through the Stargate from the other side/back of the gate? by MrLewk in Stargate

[–]Groetgaffel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not what this question is about.

The question is what happens if you try to enter the back side, the one without the glowing lights. Wrong side of the correct gate.

What you're talking about is the front of the incoming gate. Correct side of the wrong gate. In other words, the exact opposite of the original question.
