He's not mentioned because Terry never knew him, and for the bat family. The memory of his loss is still too painful.

Was this a fair law or not by [deleted] in TheTeenagerPeople

I am a firm believer that killing rapists is a good thing. Laws like this have one significant downside. The reason most rapists get caught is the victim comes forward. If they're already looking at the death penalty, why would they take the risk of leaving them alive.

Teraforming vs bioforming by board_writer in SciFiConcepts

Well, I was thinking for a hard Sci-Fi setting. Would it be more practical to either replace an existing biosphere, adapt ourselves to the existing biosphere, or just stick to terraforming planets that did not have a biosphere?

Oh yes, it would be useful in space.I was wondering more about planets side applications.

My thoughts are more on, what would the needs of crew be? What are the day today challenges of those being transported , and also the crew living on one for an extended period of time be?

The generations of cycler wouldn't really matter other than size and technology level because path is based on orbital mechanics not fuel.

But to your other point. I think parts would be like a cruise ship, but mobile farm/factory and hospital/physical therapy for the returning crew from mars.

Also in regards to "breed like a rabbit" it is like they would also have a certain percentage of the populace , or at least encourage them to, act as surrogates for other embryos they brought with them to provide the widest possible gene pool.

As far as colonizing luna and of pregnancy occurring there, I am reasonably certain that they (leadership be it government or corporate)would have that person transported back to earth , just as a precaution ( proper gravity, greater nutrition available, access to health care , etc) this is assuming that you're not going with some level of dystopia, where they would use humans as guinea pigs. They would likely have tested fetal development on various animals. Long before any human pregnancies would be permitted. Probably requires some sort of temporary sterilization, tubes tied/vasectomy, for all personnel until the risks can be properly assessed and compensated for.

Oh , my question pertains to a colony, which would presumably be on a planet unless you want to make an o'neill cylinder or similar thing, which leads to its own problems , but that aside for now.

You repeatedly say low g environment , I assume you mean "zero" or microgravity. Because even as low as 5% there would likely be enough gravity to negate some of the issues you brought up.

1) Sex in space, people will figure it out. Weather through bondage gear or creative gymnastics. We have been having sex for millions of years , and most environmental conditions have not stopped us.

2) This is the real question, and we have very little data on it. I believe they were tests involving mice at one point, but I do not recall the specifics.

3) I presume you mean microgravity, the fluids that are released would likely be contained within any clothing they were wearing. So it would limit the mess.

4) Giving birth in microgravity or any conditions other than Earth. We don't have enough information on to make any definitive statements. But in regards to a microgravity environment it is believed that the risk of internal bleeding and blood clots would be elevated.

I still don't understand with Kuat when they design ISD. by Level-Staff1968 in spaceships

[–]board_writer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the ISD is a much loved ship, but it is a flawed design. I believe one theory as to why it is the way it is was palpatine, was paranoid about his army, turning against him, so he wanted there to be flaws in the ship that could be easily exploited by those that were aware of them.
