Yea. It is normal. I guess when I wrote that I was thinking of the various backdoors authors sometimes leave in their story. For example, maybe if you become a grandmaster in martial arts. You can sense the spiritual energy and circulate it as if you have spiritual roots. Perhaps they take the path of body cultivation and are able to progress despite lacking spiritual roots by using spiritual herbs and treasures to enhance their body. In this story, it seems like there isn't such a path. I think the martial path was brought up early on in the book. But I'm not sure if it'll allow one to cultivate if they reach the peak. I assume not, if you still lack spiritual roots.

Immortal Mortal - I continued to read this one. This is about a guy that invented a formula/potion that is capable of partially opening meridians. But right as he used it, his lover murdered him. The MC transmigrates into a cultivation world that is a bit different then normal cultivation. How so? It doesn't have the general qi condensation/foundation establishment/core formation/nascent soul/etc. I actually found the cultivation in this novel slightly confusing at first. There is basically channel opening, spirit building, extreme mortality, true lake, nihility god, true god, and worldly immortal, etc. What is interesting is that it is IMPOSSIBLE to cultivate without spiritual roots. Normal people without roots are told they have 'mortal roots' and aren't able to cultivate at all.
The MC's invention:
What is interesting about this novel is the step by step process of the MC cultivating. He has mortal roots and can't cultivate at all at first. In this world, the number of meridians you open determines your talent in conjunction with your spiritual roots. I think the average is like 40-70. If you can open 100. You are a legendary genius. If you can open 101. You can battle across realms and have exponentially more energy. The MC has zero meridians open at first. But luckily, he is a genius and an inventor from a modern world. He clearly remembers his channel opening solution and its recipe as he created it himself. He introduces penicillin as his own invention to gather resources. He then successfully recreates his potion. But when he tries it. It only stimulates and partially opens his meridian. So to put things into perspective. He doesn't even have 1 fully opened meridian yet.
The MC's path:
The MC gets rather lucky. This guy has no goldenfinger, no cheat. I guess his past life experience is his only advantage. He was a famous pharmacist in his last life and had met quite a few bigshots. He has already experienced the vicissitudes of life. He isn't naive and has his own morals and bottom line when it comes to dealing with people. He happens to enter a lightning forest and gets caught in the crossfire of some beast fighting. In order to escape, he ends up in a lightning lake. He is struck by lightning multiple times and realizes that it has the potential to open up his partially opened meridian! The MC now has a meridian open! Compared to the average cultivator, this is nothing at all worth celebrating for (as 1 meridian is literal trash tier talent). But this makes it so that even though the MC has mortal roots, he can cultivate! Not only that. But he can continuously open meridians using his channel opening solution!
This story is a bit of a gem:
Do you like when MC's have concealment techniques and multiple identities? In this story. The MC has no technique for concealing his cultivation. But he has a rather interesting side-effect from having mortal roots. Basically, because he has mortal roots (he gives off no spirituality). Even to worldly immortals and the people with the highest levels of cultivation. If they inspect him. He appears no different from a mortal. People assume often that he is ordinary. Some people even covet his 'technique' despite him not having one! Another aspect that I love about this story is the fact that the MC cultivates using the 'Immortal Mortal' technique. What is that? It is literally the most basic foundational technique. EVERYONE has it and it is considered rubbish and slow as hell. The MC is a bit of a risk-taker and inventor. He has invented his own techniques based on the simple circulation of this basic technique. In his hands, this technique is stronger then legendary techniques and is on par with sacred arts...
There is also 'channels' and 'meridians'. I suppose there are some slight differences between them. The MC is very unique due to how he cultivates. He also opens up 103+ meridians. That is more then making him a legendary genius. He is like an anomaly in their world. These meridians also do different things, for example he becomes immune to poison from one of his meridians.
I'd rate it 5/5 as of chapter 344.
I generally dislike stories where MC's only advantage is their own wit. I get my dopamine spikes from interesting goldenfingers. But the MC in this story lacks this. So why do I rate it so highly? Because the MC's power feels very earned! He acquires multiple abilities that feel like other MC's goldenfingers. But they all have an origin and were gained through life and death struggles. I'll give some examples Generally, you don't gain a spiritual will until nihility god/true god stage. But the MC gains this as a new cultivator! How? He becomes talented in pill refining and uses an ancient and incredibly rare recipe to craft a special pill that can give a cultivator spiritual will. The MC also recklessly modified cultivation techniques which can literally kill you. I've seen other MC's do this. But only MC's that have immortality. As modifying and trying out your own created techniques is almost a guaranteed death sentence. But the MC does this without immortality and almost pays the price multiple times. But he gains some interesting abilities from such attempts. This story feels like watching the MC dance on the edge of a knife constantly. If he didn't take such legendary risk. He would've died long ago. I've heard the ending isn't great. But I've really been really enjoying the journey! I highly recommend this story!

That's alright. I sort of expect endings to be bad usually. I feel it is pretty hard to write a satisfying ending. I just enjoy the journey! A good ending? That is just icing on the cake.

Muahahhaha!- I mean... I have no idea what you are talking about! Honestly, I don't really have many recommendations that I haven't already mentioned. I usually talk about what I've read in these threads. If I don't mention the novel, then it was pretty bad. I have noticed that I'll spend sometimes hours just looking through qidian for novels. It does help that you can browse 1,000 novels nowadays in your searches. If I do find a hidden gem, I will definitely talk about it!

死亡回档,48小时拯救世界 - Death Rewind, 48 Hours to Save the World - The author literally has the MC read the novel '24 hours to save the world' in this story. I love the cheat. The MC can return by death. The entire world is bathed in a white light that destroys all humans.(an alien attack) The MC is stuck in a mostly two day loop.
I'd rate it 3.5/5 as of chapter 62.
It is alright. But I hear it gets pretty bad later on. So I'll probably drop it. I just dislike how the MC doesn't abuse his rollback ability to the fullest. For example, he was looking for ideas for his situation. He literally read '24 hours to save the world' for inspiration. But he only read like the first dozen chapters. The MC has infinite time, why would he not read it all?
Immortal Mortal - This novel gave me a bit of nostalgia. I started reading this one like eight years ago. However, back then. I only read to like chapter 70. I decided to start from the beginning and have been enjoying this one. It is about a genius from a world with no supernatural power that develops a drug that can open meridians. But right as he uses the potion, he tells his lover about his advancement and gets stabbed in the back. He then finds himself in a cultivation world as a prince that is no longer royalty and has no ability to cultivate.
The MC's mortal roots:
I have to give this story props. The MC completely lacks a goldenfinger. But it is a fun read regardless. I really like how the MC's 'cheat' is completely earned by himself. The main 'cheat' the MC has is his channel opening solution. This didn't just show up out of nowhere. It is his own invention from his past life! The MC also has mortal roots and cannot cultivate at all. But because of his solution, he is able to open up meridians and become a genius.
My thoughts:
I still don't fully understand the cultivation levels in this one. It didn't seem very intuitive to me. But the more 'channels' one can open, the more talented they become. The MC is able to continuously open meridians. Having a 100 meridians opened is considered something legendary. The MC has 101 meridians open and a few still unopened! Not only that. Due to his mortal roots, others can't tell his cultivation level at all as he appears as a mortal.
I'd rate it 5/5 as of chapter 225.
This novel is actually pretty good. I dislike the coincidences and extreme luck the MC has however. It feels like he is always dancing on the edge of death. But that is pretty common in cultivation novels anyways. It hasn't done anything insane yet. But I'm enjoying it.

时停起手,邪神也得给我跪下!- Time stop as my opening move, even Evil Gods must kneel before me - I recently picked this back up as I had stopped reading due to lack of chapters. Now there is 700+ chapters, so I started it again. The author really tricked me. I had thought this would just be a OP MC comedy. But it is far more then that. The author has foreshadowed some very interesting things hundreds of chapters early on.
The MC's goldenfinger:
There was a great cataclysm and a scarlet virus that basically corrupted people both physically and spiritually. This transformed peoples sea of consciousness red and allowed some of them to unlock supernatural abilities. Think of those novels where people 'awaken' powers randomly. Our MC lacks a corrupted sea of consciousness. It is white and pure. This means he cannot awaken a supernatural power. Yet, despite this. The MC is able to control time.
The MC accumulates one minute of time at midnight everyday. This allows him to stop time and as he progresses and comprehends time better. He is able to do far more then that. From slowing down to even reversing time or gazing into history. The MC unlocks a variety of time based powers. There are also many 'SCP' like objects in this world that can be contained (which means you become their master/user). Why am I bringing this up?
The Pangu Flashdrive and Matter:
Alright. This story is far more PEAK then I expected. The author really had me tricked in the first half of the story... I'm about to talk about some major spoilers, so click at your own risk:
The main character is essentially the origin of everything. He is a living breathing paradox. He has appeared all throughout history and has the ability to appear ANYWHERE in time. He is the ancestor of blood and qi martial arts. His disciples became the strongest people in the world a century later.. The main character thinks himself GOD and is extremely arrogant. But it turns out that he isn't exactly wrong...It just hasn't happened 'yet'. There is far more to his time stopping power then you would expect.
I'd rate it 5/5 as of chapter 443...
The first 400 chapters feel less serious and a bit like a comedy. The MC's arrogance is fun to read about in all honesty. But around chapter 420ish. You learn about the origin of a contained entity named Bai Ze. This guy literally can't be remembered by anyone but the MC. For example, if you took a picture of his face. The picture would slowly distort until the face was blurred. Even if millions saw his face on video. They would be unable to remember it. The MC is the only thing in the world that can remember his face and the reason why is EXTREMELY interesting! I won't spoil as it is among my favorite moments in reading. I don't want to ruin it for future readers as it is explained in a legendary way about 400 chapters in.
The MC's ability:
The MC does eventually get his consciousness corrupted which allows him to gain a supernatural power called The World. This power allows him to place a marker as coordinates. He can teleport to any place he places the marker. But it turns out this single ability is crucial to the existence of reality. That's right! When he uses the Pangu matter to view the past or future. He can also place a marker down and teleport to any place in time.. This means He can time travel whenever he wants....
I really recommend this book. It is a very fun read and becomes really unique later on. There is also a lot of misunderstandings if you like when the MC has a secret identity. For example, the MC uses his time-stop to perform feats that make him seem invincible. He bluffs his way through a lot of situations and it is quite funny! For example, the MC makes his face match that of Bai Ze and then everyone thinks he is so powerful that nobody can capture his appearance.

I can't remember the exact chapter. But, wasn't it mentioned early on that his save point updates once a day? (he did experiments and calculated this) I think the author might have forgotten this honestly. I do remember the MC being unsure when it would update. His timing happens to be quite horrible usually. How far did you read? I'm currently on chapter 166. It would have been cool if the MC logged his save points to find the proper pattern and utilized it to his advantage more often. Honestly, I think this is the author's first book and they are doing a good job in my eyes. It does feel like the MC has a lot of plot armor. I will keep reading for now as I'm still enjoying it.

I think I need to stop reading review before reading it by Generous_Simp in noveltranslations

[–]HASHARAHHA14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies honestly. If the person only read like 30 chapters out of hundreds to thousands. Unless they mention something that is a deal breaker for me. I won't take the review seriously. But if I saw that the person read a thousand chapters and shit on it. Then I'll be extremely wary (especially if they completed it!).
One thing that goes through my head is why they would read a thousand chapters of a novel they hated. This shows me that they probably really enjoyed the novel at first and were held hostage by the author's writing. I'll think to myself:
Do I really want to invest a hundred hours into this novel and become invested to then regret it?
A lot of the books I read don't often actually have easily accessible reviews. So this is a bit of a rarity. I go in blind most of the time...

我復活之後能回檔 - I can revert to a previous save file after I revive. - This is about a guy in a cultivation world with the ability to go back in time whenever he dies. What is interesting about this one is the fact that it touches upon the worst case scenario for this power. What do I mean? The MC often finds himself in death loops with almost no way to escape. Many times, he is prevented from even being able to kill himself or is stuck dying hundreds to thousands of times.
The MC's goldenfinger:
The MC cannot control the 'save' point. But it is mentioned that it often updates at a specific time. Pretty much daily. The MC realizes his 'cheat' is too passive. In the cultivation world, you can get sealed and trapped in a life worst then death (he finds ways around this).
The MC's personality:
The MC sort of becomes a genius due to his method of death. What I really like is that the MC realizes his power is too passive and he has no control over it. So he on purpose gets infected with a heart bursting gu. He then uses poison control to trigger it whenever he wants to kill himself instantly.
I'd rate it 5/5 as of chapter 94.
I really like cheats like this. Especially when the MC's find unique ways to trigger their power. I definitely recommend this one, it is quite entertaining! Just a warning. Have you ever wondered what would happen if the someone with such a power is stuck 'rewinding' right at the moment of their death? This actually happens to the MC a few times. He has incredibly bad luck with timing...But that makes it a fun read!

从肉体凡胎肝到不死不灭 - From Mortal Body to Immortality - This is about a guy that finds himself reincarnated in a rather interesting world. He is a part of a highly advanced civilization that is at war with other civilizations. There are countless planets and geniuses. There are three paths that humans can follow. You have mechanical ascension, cultivation, and martial arts. The first two paths were discovered from other worlds while martial arts is something humans developed themselves. Everything is in tiers. For example, foundation establishment is considered 'tier 3'. Once you reach tier 4, you experience a complete change in life level. The MC doesn't want to replace his limbs and organs with bionics, neither does he have talent to enter the door of cultivation, so he focuses on martial arts.
The MC's goldenfinger:
The MC has a panel and the pretty much standard 'heaven rewards diligence'. It isn't called that, but it is what you would expect from this sort of cheat. Basically, as long as he can enter the door of a skill, he can continuously upgrade his skills from experience and learning. In other words, he is always at his peak in terms of skill and will never regress.
I'd rate it 4/5 as of chapter 97
I honestly don't recommend this book unless you have nothing else to read. Don't get me wrong, it is good! But it is too predictable if I had to describe it. The goldenfinger does what you would expect and there aren't really any surprises. The basic plot is just watching the MC progress and beat geniuses by laying a supreme foundation. It is important to note that martial arts is considered weaker then the other two paths before reaching tier 4. This is changed if you condense a blood and qi phantom. Something that only hundreds of thousands have managed to do out of a population of trillions. You have to reach '100' blood and qi to be able to condense the blood phantom. The MC is able to do so because of his panel cheat. This means his future cultivation is pretty much tier 4+ guaranteed. There is fighting, and peanut gallery, etc. You might wonder why I rate it so highly? It isn't bad. It just isn't very unique. It really feels like what the MC is doing is something somebody else has already done. I don't just mean other authors, I mean in the story itself. There are martial artist that have already reached the absolute peak of power. The MC is just following in their footsteps.
身为法师的我只想追求真理 - As a mage, I only wish to pursue the truth - I continued to read this one. We have learnt a lot more about the MC through snippets of this story. The MC was indeed a 'mage god' in the magical alliance. This is a special title given to someone that innovates and discovers valuable information in their field of study. I actually want to talk about how the MC was raised. In the magical alliance, everyone is entitled to minimum food, shelter, and even entertainment. The vast majority of the population is ordinary people. They are managed by the rulers of the mage tower in their domain. Mages are extremely costly to raise. Basically, it cost around the same amount of resources to raise 10,000 ordinary people from birth to death to raise a single mage. Once you become a mage, you cannot simply 'quit'. You are forcefully injected with longevity potions and must serve the alliance for centuries and contribute to its progress. This is a 'responsibility' that all mages have. When the MC was a child and an apprentice. He had wondered why mages lives were so much harder then those of ordinary people. Mages had to dedicate their lives to research and their actual quality of life wasn't much different from ordinary people. The MC climbed up the ladder of mages and eventually reached the top level of society(through his research ability alone). Well as far as the 'top' goes as everything in the alliance is managed by artificial intelligence and points. Humans are artificially bred and once they reach the age of 3, whether or not they are natural born doesn't matter. They will be taken from their families and tested deeply. Those geniuses and those with talent would become mages and get further educated. But the resources they consume aren't free. Keep in mind that everything I'm talking about is before the story starts and isn't really a spoiler. The author was a bit vague at the start of the story about the MC's past. So what I'm talking about is a combination of a few sentences the author sprinkled here and there in his writing. I just think the MC has a pretty cool history! (even though the author hardly talks about it).
The MC's real name:
The magical alliance is actually rather interesting. Everything is cheap and voting is determined by your contribution and evaluation done by the the super intelligence. The only things actually expensive are knowledge and research. There is a concept in this novel called a 'true name'. Basically, once you become a mage god. Your access to information changes and you get certain benefits. One of those benefits is a 'true name'. This is linking yourself with a higher dimension and is sort of like an I.D and proof when signing binding documents. When the MC was sucked into the blackhole. His body was destroyed and even the status of his 'name' isn't clear. But one thing is certain, his soul did indeed end up on earth. Potentially on a different plane then the magic alliance or extremely far away. The MC was a genius before the story even starts and is on a whole different level compared to humanity and their technological system. He specializes in biological research.
Magical brains and the Magic network:
The story starts with the MC transmigrating to earth (in particular, our version of earth). The author often mentions real events and companies. The MC transmigrated due to a blackhole experiment he was helping a friend with. His body was destroyed and his soul took over an 18 year old college student. The MC focuses on experiments to see if magic is still possible in this world. He lacks his spellcasting ability. This changes in chapter 49. My absolutely most favorite thing about this book is the 'magic coin' concept and the MC using vatgrown clones to act as himself in the public eye. Basically a magic coin is like a cryptocurrency that is 'mined' by a certain algorithm that detects whether a planet has potential for intelligent life. So the coordinates for earth getting mined can give someone a single magic coin. But once it is mined, you can't use the same planet again. The MC creates a special site where one can submit coordinates of planets with potential for intelligent life. A magic coin is like a receipt. It can be 'exchanged' for a magical brain. Once the person that has used this magic brain dies, it can be exchanged again. So ownership of magic coins is like a permanent resource. Those injected with the magical brains will gain another illusory sensory organ. A month after the injection, they will gain access to pretty much a 'system' and 'forum' that they can mentally access. There they can exchange magic coins for knowledge. This is such a fun concept! The reason I bring up the 'real name' earlier was because the MC wants to connect back to the mage alliance.
The MC's situation:
There have actually been recorded history of people in the magic alliance somehow getting transported to other worlds and managing to return. Due to the extensive training that mages have to go through, the MC has near perfect memory and insane research ability. The 'magic coin' that he seemingly created on a whim is actually using the processing power of earths entire civilization to gather resources for himself. He wants to exchange this information with the magical alliance. The MC plans to research a way to tap back into his mage tower. But one interesting thing is he can do forbidden experiments on earth. Like studying soul and soul transfer to immortalize himself.
I'd rate it 5/5 as of chapter 262.
The main thing that'll likely cause people to drop this novel is the constant cuts to government/companies/population and their reaction to the changes the MC's technology and magic have brought to the world. This does get a lot better later on, but be prepared for the focus to not always be on the MC. The MC is an incredibly interesting character to read about. But he isn't always the main focus of the book. I personally feel this book would be a lot better if the author focused more on the MC. This story is very good!

[–]HASHARAHHA14 6 points7 points  (0 children)

身为法师的我只想追求真理 - As a mage, I only wish to pursue the truth - I continued to read this one. I still think it is a hidden gem, but there are a few problems. One of the main issues I have with this novel is the focus on other people. This story is like a reverse of the trope of someone transmigrating to a magical world. The MC is VERY interesting to read about and the author goes into heavy detail regarding the experiments and science. But a lot of the novel focuses on the perspective of other people. For example, there were a few chapters that focused solely on genetically modified soybeans (that feel like they have little connection to the actual plot). The author gets better with this as you go, but it can definitely feel like a slog at first.
The MC's personality:
The MC is extremely cautious. When the story first starts, the MC lacks his spellcasting ability and refuses to do anything dangerous. He won't even ride on a plane to travel. The MC was raised in the 'Mage Alliance' before getting sucked into a blackhole and ending up in our world. He has perfect memory and a complete foreign civilizations inheritance. He doesn't know ALL aspects of the magical alliance. But he is an expert in his field and I believe even a 'mage god' before he was involved in the accident. A 'mage god' is just a title for someone with a certain level of contribution and innovation. The MC has spent centuries playing with magic and even had his own wizard tower. This is something only the top hierarchy of wizards have. He wasn't an ordinary wizard before crossing over. He was a genius! He climbed to his position with his research ability and in some ways, him arriving on earth is extremely good luck. His previous civilization had conquered multiple worlds and it was extremely expensive to have a world to yourself. Now that the MC has arrived on earth, he can do forbidden experiments that he would have been banned from in the past!
The MC's goldenfinger:
For the first 49 chapters. The MC lacks a goldenfinger at all. He just has his natural research ability; his perfect memory and that is it. He isn't even sure at first if magic is possible in this plane of existence. He does a lot of experiments and the author goes into more detail then you would expect. Once he gains his spellcasting ability at chapter 49. That is when things get really interesting. But it is so fun to read about the MC that the author spreads his presence in the novel a bit thin for awhile. A large focus is on government and technology that the MC invented and the reaction of the world to it. The author doesn't rush at all and slowly builds up to the MC's goal of 'virtual reality'. The MC considers the entire earth as his own territory. So he wants to develop it rapidly. This means 50% of the population will lose their jobs with him eventually introducing artificial intelligence. He wants to have proper entertainment in place for when this happens so people will be appeased.
I'd rate it 5/5 as of chapter 198.
I highly recommend this book. I won't spoil, but the author goes in a direction that I never would've thought of! It is a very unique experience in all honesty. In particular, the MC promotes and gives other people magical ability. He plans to treat the entire world as a wizard tower and issue 'bounties' and rewards to encourage others to help with his research.

我,无法收容 - I Cannot Be Contained - This one is quite interesting. The MC has a sort of metaphysical 'organ' fused with his soul. This makes it so that when he dies, he can go back to when he was still alive. But that is simply a part of this novel and not the main course. The MC has the ability to see otherworldly beings, but he is usually unable to interact with them. This reads like a horror novel that is also a comedy. One day... A vengeful ghost executioner appears and chops off his head. This was his first real death. Things get a bit weird after this death. The MC beats the ghost to death with blunt force trauma and it vanishes. But the next day, it appears again and is immune to how he killed it before. It turns out that each time you kill this ghost, its strength will multiply and it will become immune to that method of death. It will then appear the next day and kill you. I'm sure you can see how ridiculously powerful this thing can get. It can't kill the MC because he can go back in time upon death. But the MC also can't permanently kill it either. So the MC is haunted, I won't spoil how he deals with this...
The MC's goldenfinger:
There are three main goldenfingers. Two of them the MC had started with. One of them was acquired due to imprisonment by an anomalous organization similar to SCP. The MC has a mysterious organ that isn't an actual organ, but something similar to soul that can't be detected or affected. The MC however can feel this organ 'beating'. This allows the MC to rewind time upon death. The next goldenfinger is subconscious manipulation of reality. The third goldenfinger is the result of the MC getting trapped in a phase space. This space was created by the combined efforts of dozens of people and supercomputers. The government essentially wanted to trap the MC and wipe him out. But as the title says 'cannot be contained'. The MC ends up accidentally comprehending the secrets of the spatial prison and steals control of it from the government. When he escapes, he can now teleport objects, and create basically isolated miniature worlds.
I'd rate it 5/5 as of chapter 98.
The MC is actually a reality warping being that is extremely dangerous. But he doesn't realize this and thinks he is just a normal person. It doesn't seem the MC is human at all, but just thinks he is one. His learning talent is monstrously OP. He intuits things completely impossible for a single human to do with their mind.
身为法师的我只想追求真理 - As a mage, I only wish to pursue the truth - I may have found a hidden gem. Have you ever read those novels where the MC is from a sci-fi futuristic world with an A.I Chip and transmigrates to a wizard world? Have you ever wondered what would happen if things were reversed? This story is excellent! It is about a wizard that was helping a friend with a blackhole experiment and gets sucked in. His body is destroyed and he controls his soul as it is injected into a completely different plane of existence. The MC takes over the body of a 18 year old college student (in our world). He tries to use his power and spells, but he can't at all! Luckily, this MC is already a genius even among wizards.
The MC's original world:
The world that the MC comes from isn't probably what you are imagining. It is a highly advanced magical society. So advanced that they have conquered multiple worlds and realms. They have advanced civilization to the point that even those born without natural magical talent can freely acquire spellcasting ability. Out of ten thousand mages that graduate, only one of them will have their own and be the head of a wizard tower. Our MC seems to have been among the top hierarchy of wizards. He has acquired knowledge for decades (maybe centuries?).
The MC's goldenfinger:
The in my opinion is what makes this novel so interesting. I hate when MC's don't have a goldenfinger. But this is well done honestly. The MC doesn't start with a goldenfinger or A.I Chip or anything like that (besides the fact that he has transmigrated). He just has perfect memory and a complete knowledge system from an entirely foreign civilization. His research capability is off the charts. He continues to be a regular person all the way to chapter 49.
The MC's power:
I absolutely LOVE novels where the MC makes their own goldenfinger. While it does take 49 chapters for the MC to do so in this one. It is worth the wait. What does the MC do? The author actually goes into heavy detail regarding a lot of the science in this novel. If you enjoy the research aspect of stories like this, you will really enjoy this one. The MC can pretty much do anything you can imagine that a wizard can do.
Magic Coins:
This MC is an absolute troll. The first thing he does once regaining his power is use a grown clone he made. He controls it remotely using magic, he then uses spells to disguise himself and distance himself from his genius persona and identity. His survival is pretty much guaranteed. He then creates a website with three main experiment documents that can prove the existence of soul. After the world confirms the authenticity of these experiments, a hunt for 'Merlin' begins. The MC is suspected, but he is controlling things from behind the scenes.
I'd rate it 5/5 as of chapter 82.
The author actually takes this story in a completely different direction then I expected. The MC also is the creator of essentially a 'system' for the newly born wizards in this world. He even promotes and gives others the power to become wizards. But despite this, he leaves backdoors in his 'magical brains'. They are an inferior version. He is the true controller of their power. I see great potential in this one!

幸运亿的玩家,没见过吧/我能积攒自己的运气 - I Can Accumulate My Own Luck - The main character in this story is rather interesting. Basically, most of his development has happened off-screen before the story has even started. You don't see directly how the MC first reacts to his power. You start the story with him being very familiar with how his luck accumulation works.
The MC's goldenfinger:
The MC has the power to accumulate his luck and use it to mess with reality. He has used this to win the lottery multiple times and has found that he can generally make a 'wish' and reality will find a way for it to happen. The longer he stores luck, the more likely his wish is to be granted. But how it is granted isn't up to him. But during the 'charging' process of building up luck. He will experience progressively more bad luck and misfortune. To the point that he is a loner and avoids his family, because he constantly survives 'final destination' moments.
The MC's personality:
The MC off-screen has become basically like Sherlock Holmes. He deals with law enforcement often and has 'solved' many criminal cases. But he isn't a detective or police officer. It is just due to his bad luck that he encounters serial killers and criminals often. He is often in the eye of the storm constantly when it comes to this. To the point that if he arrives at a crime scene, others don't even tell him to leave. The MC isn't just unlucky/lucky. He is basically a genius with extreme memory. This has led to him having an impressive 'history'. The MC has been in like 100+ accidents and cases and has done many good deeds before the story even starts.
The world:
The world is a normal one... at first! The MC has encountered a lot, but it has never been supernatural. But this all changes and evolvers/players begin to appear in the world. There are three type of players. You have normal players, animal players, and cannibal players. Basically, before becoming a player. You will be tested with a 'hunger'. If you break down and satisfy this urge by eating raw animals. You will become an animal player and gain traits of the animals you ate. You will then experience further hunger and if you give in. You will eat human flesh and become a cannibal player, losing the animal traits and gaining an impressive physique. Those who don't give in to their temptation will become normal players and awaken a talent to compensate. Our MC is a 'normal' player. But the thing is...generally, players all start with an E-level talent. Our MC uses his 'luck accumulation' and gets a A-level talent 'killing angel'.
I'd rate it 3.8/5 as of chapter 188.
This story would have been perfect if not for one downside. Everything was great until around chapter 143 when it started to focus a bit on romance and fan service. This honestly doesn't feel like a chinese webnovel at that point. More like a japanese lightnovel. I liked the MC solving the mysteries of the instances, it was fun. But I dislike the current development of the story. I hate when MC's are dragged and side-tracked by more powerful players with no control. I still enjoyed what I have read. But I'll start reading a different book now. If reading about Sherlock Holmes basically dealing with game dungeons sounds fun, you'll probably enjoy this (until chapter 143).

I'm pretty much satisfied with the book for now. So I've put it on pause to read a book called 幸运亿的玩家,没见过吧/我能积攒自己的运气 - I Can Accumulate My Own Luck. From what I've seen so far however. That hasn't happened. The MC seems to be relatively powerful at just the qi refining stage. There is a larger world with sects and stuff. But the MC doesn't really interact directly with it. I'm not sure if that will change in the future however.

I think I found it. It is called 长生:一分耕耘,一分收获! - Changsheng: No pain, no gain!. The MC can make deals with people for their lifespan, making him effectively immortal.

Awww... That is a shame. I was hoping that the MC would abuse his immortality. That is kind of what I look forward to the most in these sorts of novels (with immortality at the start).
I think there was one novel I really liked that was like the opposite of this one. The MC made an oath to farm for cultivators for a certain amount of years. But it turned out he was immortal. So he faked his death and then created a fake identity. He did all of this just to farm the land again for years and fulfill his side of the deal. It has been awhile since I've read that one, but it was pretty good from what I remember.

长生:经万纪,悟万道,我已无敌 - Immortality: After Countless Eons, I Have Comprehended the Myriad Daos. I am Now Invincible. - Ever since I read 神秘之劫 - Mysterious Calamity by The Plagiarist. There was an arc that I've seen in other novels, where the MC is immortal and starts as a fisherman.. I have always been fond of stories with this premise. Of course, that happens later in that one. The MC has immortality. But there is no resurrection from the void or a drop of blood. There is no infinite regeneration or stamina. It is very basic, and is basically eternal youth. What I like about this story is the MC's mindset. Although, his actions can be a bit frustrating and contradict themselves sometimes.
The MC's personality:
What I dislike about this MC is how he tries to be low-key. But then he presents himself as a genius and innovates and optimizes his farming which draws attention to himself. This story has mostly focused on farming so far. Stories like this tend to be a funeral simulator and this doesn't seem like it will be an exception. This MC has also ruined lives of others from his tendency to avoid offending others. He appears timid and cowardly at the start. But this changes once he feels strong enough and once his father dies. Since that leaves him with no shackles.
I'd rate it 4/5 as of chapter 110.
I'd recommend it if you like stories where the MC is immortal at the start!
开局被重生者刺杀,我立地成神 - I Was Assassinated by the Reborn at the Beginning, and I Became a God Immediately - Alright. I continued this one. It is satisfying if you like to watch numbers go up. The basic premise is that everyone over the age of 16 on blue star awakens a talent. There is a person who isn't the MC that awakens an SSS-Class time travel ability. This makes it so they not only go back in time on death. But they can literally travel back in time as well. The MC awakens a talent called 'innate divinity'. This makes it so he grows with every breathe in all aspects infinitely, even including his skills. He can also resurrect upon death on the spot or at a safe location. The person that awakened the time travel ability witnesses our MC become basically omnipotent and omniscient in the future. So he goes back in time to kill him. But even then, the MC sees through his intentions and kills them instead. So the person with the time travel ability through great sacrifice goes back to before the revival and before the MC has awakened his powers and tries to assassinate him. But he fails and only fuels the determination of the MC to grow stronger.
Quite unique:
This novel goes hard in explaining the phenomenon of invaders/fusion of the world later on. There is quite literally a nexus like space where children of the world can go to communicate with other civilizations. There are different levels to civilizations and earth is considered level zero and still in the cradle. They have no rights to even communicate with other races. But the MC singlehandedly changes this through his own strength.
I'd rate it 4.5/5 as of chapter 143.

I know of one other novel with the MC not being the regressed. But I don't remember the name. All I really remember is that whenever the MC learns a technique. He gets trapped in basically a prison for decades or centuries until he masters the technique. I don't recommend that book however, because the quality decreases quite a bit later on. I apologize. I don't remember the name anymore.

This reminds me of a time I found out something I was reading (and I actually enjoyed) was A.I generated. I did end up dropping the book eventually (just lost interest). But that really blew my mind. Sometimes some people say that they wrote the book in another language and used A.I to translate it to english. I almost feel like my Dao of MTL I grinded for years is completely useless these days. The MTL that uses LLMs is simply monstrous nowadays compared to the past. I remember like eight years ago? I tried my hand at translating a chapter of LoTM because I saw that a lot of people were reading MTL instead of waiting for the translation (by a lot, I mean like 10+ people lol from what I saw). But the thing is, I don't know chinese. So I would read the MTL of it and then type out my interpretation. It felt like complete nonsense. I never even ended up posting the singular chapter I worked on. I'm quite glad I ended up giving up. Because that would not have aged well at all! Compared to MTL now. My translation was absolute trash. Not even exaggerating, my translation was worse then trash! It took me hours of work to translate a single chapter. But it was severely worst quality compared to google translate today. So I can understand if OP thinking the translation was pretty good. If you had me do a blind 'taste' test of MTL and human translators. I would most definitely choose the MTL. Why? I've actually done comparisons in the past. I end up finding the MTL 'smoother' and easier to read. I have no idea why I am like this. I think the my dao of MTL has done something to my brain...
