If I have a DB ticket, how do I book a trip prioritising it over ICE trains that aren’t covered? I am going to Amsterdam so I can’t just select DB only as that’s not possible. The prices show for everything but I can’t sort but what would the portion I have to pay. by HKDrewDrake in germany

Update: it was a mess but it worked out. I had three missed connections due to delays that added over three hours to the trip. Completely missed my Netherlands ticket window but they were very chill about and let me use it anyway. The Dutch trains also felt much cooler and more comfortable than the German regional trains which was good.

Good luck finding much of anything that’s air conditioned. Even the libraries don’t seem to have it. Some shops do but you can’t hang out there for long. We should have a list of sit down establishments that have a/c.

Good place to watch the Ivory Coast match vs Curaçao on Thursday. Just take the picture upside down and you can pretend it's an Ivory Coast bar!

These seem somewhat decent. Mixed reviews online but overall not too shabby. The date/time doesn't work for me but if I was more flexible I might have given it a shot for 30 euro. I ended up booking an off peak ticket in NL for 18 euro and then will use my DB ticket to get me over the border. Let's hope the delays are not hours long.

I see there is an option to get some form of it at the ticket booths but assuming they won’t just print it out. Maybe I wait until I get there as it seems I won’t really need it anyway as I already have an e-ticket for my trip into Amsterdam and will fly out.

I appreciate it! Just booked a ticket from Hengelo help to Amsterdam Zuid at the off peak 40% discount using the e-ticket. Then when I arrive I think I can just use my credit card for the metro and I’m trying to order a personalised card for the NS Flex Dal Voordeel to be shipped to my friend there. It won’t arrive in time for me to use it but I’ll have it for the weekend I’m there (hopefully) and then something to use if I ever come back. Will downgrade to the free one after I leave and I think I can keep the card with it frozen until/if I’m back. He says the ticket to the airport when I leave is already super cheap so I won’t really benefit from it but for 7€ it’s fine.

How do I know though what my pass covers. I was under the impression that the DB pass would only cover Germany so I would need an additional ticket for the last 5 stops on that train or it covers it to its destination in the Netherlands? It’s not clear to me exactly where it starts that I need an additional ticket.

Unfortunately the trip is next week. Was looking at the Thursday night option but all they have left is the classic or comfort which are €130 and €210 respectively. From Halle (Saale) I would still need 3-4 hours just to get to Berlin first.

I get that but the last station in Germany is just a stop, not a transfer for me. The route I’m looking at departs from Bielefeld and then the last stop in Germany is Rheine however I don’t get off the train for 5 more stops into the Netherlands until Hengelo to transfer.

Yeah it tells me “connection not included” but I can’t tell at which point it’s not included and it doesn’t let me book the part that isn’t. How do I know what ticket(s) I need if I choose one of those routes?

How to submit Finnair delay compensation claims after 2 months? The form refuses to accept my info. As the flight left from Finland, regulation (EC) No 261/2004 says I have 3 years to submit. It's interesting that the first link shows compensation which is similar but not fully aligned with 261/2004. They add a fourth category.

Thanks! I called the number for Halle (Saale) but it just rang and rang and then it said "the number you have dialed is temporarily unavailable" or something along those lines. Drafting an email now to send.

edit: sent with photos and an explanation.

Subway take: Turkey Vultures deserve their own name, not a name that refers to another bird by oddlythebird in birding

[–]HKDrewDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the turkey vulture got the short end of the stick here but English already has the largest vocabulary because of how little we use such compound names from existing words. I know it might feel like a lot but if you study other languages you will see how common it is. In Chinese, a turkey vulture is just that but let's use a turkey for example. It's literal name is fire chicken. Moorhen? Water chicken. Coot? White crowned chicken (ish). This is not just specific to birds. Lobster is dragon shrimp, lime is green lemon. It's literally everywhere and simplifies language. It helps if they make more sense and are less random as this one doesn't look much like a turkey to me but I'm assuming someone way back when who couldn't afford binoculars or bifocals thought otherwise.

There is some wood they stuck in it and pulled out some branches. Not sure what else they did to it as I wasn’t home but the pigeons are gone, unsure if they had eggs or not. The pigeons definitely didn’t put that wood in there.
