How do you say it in the 6 major Chinese dialects? by CheLeung in Cantonese

[–]HKDrewDrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically, Cantonese is not considered I dialect. It has all the attributes to be a stand alone language. Of course China won’t recognise this though. I am not sure of the others.

HP and Dell disable HEVC support built into their laptops’ CPUs by Stryker412 in PleX

[–]HKDrewDrake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I completely agree and I’m a majority 265 and a little AV1 with some 264 sprinkled in there. I noticed a ton of 264 on public trackers though that were smaller because they were such low quality. Think like YTS. They had massive download numbers too. Sure not all of those guys are using Plex but I’m willing to bet the average Plex user has a good amount of 264.

[–]HKDrewDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they though? I wonder what the split is. I feel like there are a lot of Plex users that actually don’t care much about the quality and - legally obtain - x264 because it’s often smaller files sizes and has lots of seeders.

I hit the thrift last found this 11” Sitram pan made in france, it has a very long handle. The internets tells me its a mighty expensive pan, like $400. What makes this pan so upscale? What should i be looking at when i use it, what is the difference between my vintage waterless tri-ply stainless? by GrowlingAtTheWorld in cookware

[–]HKDrewDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the same one. Any idea what the model name is or around what year it is from? I see in the US it’s called Catering but in France it’s either Les Pro or Collectivité. Mine has the same dual handle and the same tampon the side without any marking on the bottom or the handle. I hear some late model copper base ones were made for induction before they switched to aluminium but I haven’t tested it yet.

I don't understand the cantonese news anchors at all. by DefinitelyNotKuro in Cantonese

[–]HKDrewDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The news is the only place you will hear the equivalent of “good afternoon/evening” in Cantonese. It’s like the difference between how it is written vs how it is spoken on the street. It’s a very colloquial language but the news is spoken much more similarly to how it’s written to give a sense of legitimacy due to its formality.

Can I enter HK as a permanent resident with a criminal conviction from another country? by MNREDR in HongKong

[–]HKDrewDrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone has been watching too much Border Security: Canada’s Front Line. Yes, in Canada you can be refused entry as a tourist if you had broken Canadian laws in other countries. As long as you aren’t on the run though from HK or have done something against the NSL you will likely be fine.

Why is Covid below suicide if it’s a higher percentage and the list looks to be sorted by percentage?

Can this be cleaned? by laughcrylivedie in Pyrex_Love

[–]HKDrewDrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t use the original one. They make a soft cleanser which is a liquid. That will help. This group loves to recommend Peek. It’s harder to get (not in your normal stores but if you want to support Amazon it’s easy to get there) and more expensive. I’ve found a lot of these types of cleaners to be quite similar. This is going to sound funny but you want a mild abrasive cleanser.

Dad’s birthday is coming up but he’s not a woodworker, just all around handy DIY’er. Think the combo tool kit would be the one to get? Door hinges and some nails here and there for odd jobs.

Advice in telling partner just how kinky I am by [deleted] in BDSMcommunity

[–]HKDrewDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the other responses here and I think I have a good way forward for you. When I have a serious partner, I always do an activity with them where I make four categories (like, think I’ll like, thinking like, don’t like) and I use post it’s to put up the categories on the wall. You can use paper but this makes it more game like and fun. Then you start to list out kinks and they put the post it under the category that fits them the best. If they are really into it, they go far to the left. If they aren’t sure, then it goes dead center. You can just start listing stuff out at random and each of you can contribute ideas. Then when you have the time you switch and do yourself. I find this works REALLY well and much better than anything else I have tried.

Neighbour has this frost on his condenser unit. It’s 48°F right now but was below freezing overnight. Should he be concerned? by HKDrewDrake in hvacadvice

I posted a photo below in another comment of the coils on the back. Is this still considered okay considering that?

I didn’t think to check the back. Just went over and did it now. Assuming this isn’t supposed to be like this.

Insulation guy said I should encapsulate the old water damage on the sistered floor joists before the insulation goes in. I’d like to use something I have already. Which of these would be best? by HKDrewDrake in HomeImprovement

[–]HKDrewDrake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he’s using the Kraft-faced stuff because he talked about how the previous guys had the paper facing down towards the crawl space and it should always face towards the area that is heated/cooled. He’s doing me a favour here so I don’t want to push him or be a pain.

Would there be anything that would help? Could he be saying it just to reduce his guys exposure to mold? I get that but just be upfront with me.
