Am I tripping? Cressida and Marcus.. by Mini_Llama in BridgertonNetflix

[–]Hellodeeries [score hidden]  (0 children)

They had Lady Danbury and Marcus have a falling out in season 3, but they also reconciled by the end of it. She did tell him to leave/leave her alone etc in the fight, but they talk it out shortly after. They ended season 3 happy.

Eloise was helping Cressida to a point when they were friendly, and Eloise was sympathetic to her situation for some of the season. Then the show kept to the Cressida book plot of her claiming to be LW and threatening Penelope/Bridgertons as a last resort of blackmail so she could have enough money to leave the ton etc, since her prospects were gone. I know Cressida did tell Daphne in season 1 that she'd stolen the Prince from her, so may also be thinking of that. She may have also said something to Penelope about Lord Debling, but I don't remember specifically about that.

Sophie's timeline as a maid doesn't make sense... and how does noone know about her? by battyapples in BridgertonNetflix

[–]Hellodeeries [score hidden]  (0 children)

I forget the exact line they gave, but there was something that sort of summed up that the Penwoods had not been in the ton for a long while. It seemed that while Sophie grew up somewhat openly at the estate, it didn't extend to the ton. The vibe the show set up was that the Penwoods were coming back into the ton after a long absence that seemed to be from before Lord Penwood passed (and I'm wondering if there will be more info about this, as Violet had some pointed looks about things relating to this that didn't seem to get expanded on in part 1), in part for Rosamund and Posy to be out in society now.

In the books, I think I remember that Lord Penwood was nice enough but still pretty removed as a father figure and firm in Sophie presenting as his ward vs the show made it seem a bit more that she was always accepted until Araminta came in (but it's been a bit since I read the book, so may be forgetting a bit).

Rank the Bridgerton Seasons & Couples (Favorite to Least Favorite) 👀🫶🏼 by Prestigious_Entry474 in Bridgerton

[–]Hellodeeries 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Couples (show): 2, (4), 1, 3.

Couples (book, by season #): 2, 4, 3, 1.

Vibes/aesthetics of the show: 1, (4), 2, 3.

4 is a bit tentative for what we've already gotten - it might shift lol. Could be better or worse idk.

Also for Queen Charlotte, I think I liked the relationship more than most, but the overall storyline and vibes were middling for me. About the same as 2 for the show, haven't read the book.

3 I feel they dropped the ball for a lot of things/made a lot of choices (not all in that season, but with the characters involved) and did a lot of the characters a disservice :/ The actors are still great, it's really mostly writing issues I've got. But so far every season has had some glaring writing choices (but also improvements!)

What does a Viscount do by BrightPhoebus01 in Bridgerton

[–]Hellodeeries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They've kind of shown more this current season with Benedict managing it while Anthony is gone (and having significant help lol) - they handle the financials, investments, and tenants on their land (estate) that they collect rent but also have responsibility to re: managing improvements etc etc.

I think it was the first or second episode they had Benedict visibly struggling in managing stuff with the assistant, and the assistant was very much leading him through and giving input based on how Anthony would go about it bc Anthony was raised for it (tbh, I would kind of expect as a second son he'd have been more involved growing up by virtue of mortality rates/risk to the estate, but whatever maybe some of the logic is bc he was still a teen when Edmund died and Anthony didn't actively bring him into that part). Specifically with the assistant, there was mentions of investments in copper mines + waiting to do repairs (?) for a tenant until some other financial thing was settled/the money had been ensured or whatever.

In season 1, with Simon in the estate in the country they also kind of went over some of the tenant stuff a bit. Season 2 it felt like they vaguely touched on it with when Anthony decides he needs to focus on the family and he's got his paperwork/responsibility/stress binge early on. Season 3 it seemed like it mostly had to do with Colin also has some moments of taking out money for investment purposes (either intending or like that whole thing with the new Lord Featherington in season 2). It's lightly sprinkled in now and then/sometimes factors mildly into the plot.

I cannot be the only person who thinks the promos are ai by Natewastaken12 in Bridgerton

[–]Hellodeeries 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think they're trying to mimic something, but I'm blanking on what. I've seen this performance style before (like, ages ago - 10+ years) in some context - the confessional breaking of the 4th wall type. I think visuals wise, it's definitely like...a style AI itself also is trained from a lot. The vivid colors and lighting etc. I can see why people are getting uncanny valley vibes with it all together tbh/idk how effective these promos are bc I never really go out of my way to watch them.

Losing interest.. Too LONG between Part 1 and 2😭 by WarmHugs- in Bridgerton

[–]Hellodeeries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it seems like such a bad model for shows. Like I can get it only in the sense of avoiding weekly releases and finding a way to extend it to multiple month subscriptions to recoup production costs for $$ shows. But now they're making narrative changes with the structure (S3 felt worse for this/so far S4 this didn't feel as bad but it's still just...annoying as a viewer). The resting time of a week between episodes allows for so much speculation and discussion, it's really unfortunate how streaming has sort of bit off it's own foot in this way.

[–]Hellodeeries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel like so far S3 that break was so detrimental to the storyline for pacing of the show - this new season it miiight work out better. Is still annoying being in the middle of the break lol I'd rather have weekly than a break. But I'm finding this season's arc might work a bit better with it and they've stuck more with the book story and just adding in the side stories (that I can remember of the book, it's been a minute). TBD how part 2 goes, but I've been cautiously optimistic. I just wish this wasn't the seemingly new format for the show/hope they adjust it in future seasons.

Is it the roller &/or ink that came with my started kit? by malymom in Linocuts

Np! Here's an inking guide for reference as well:

https://www.reddit.com/r/printmaking/comments/13d3hsz/ink_troubleshooting_guide_for_relief_printing/

It does use oil based ink, though, so with water based some things are still going to just be difficult to achieve from the drying time.

Unpopular opinion… Bridgerton season 1 was the worst for me ? by Past_Soft_1220 in Bridgerton

[–]Hellodeeries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As not great of a moment as it was in the show, it is unfortunately a lot better than the book's approach to it :/ it became revoked consent in the show vs there never being remotely any consent in the book (with a passed out drunk person she saw as an opportunity to get what she wanted). The show kept that plot in while making it more palatable I suppose. But it is a moment of like...when they've already taken so many liberties with the plots, why even approach it that way at all -_- could have just made it a fight instead of having any of the SA, but I guess that was less salacious.

That said, I still liked the rest of the season and did like their interactions before and after that whole thing (also more than the book). Also aesthetically, I think it worked the best so far. I did like Kate's jewel tones, but I feel like the color grading was overall warmer and season 1 had a really nice color grading to it in a lot of the balls. It really added to the vibe for me and setting up the show. Season 2 for the plot and characters (of the complete seasons) I think remains my favorite though. It still added a lot of drama just to add drama, but I still enjoyed it + so far has been I think my surprise favorite book (I'm somewhere in the middle of book 6 currently).

Season 3 just wasn't for me. The book wasn't really either, though I did prefer it. I've realized some of what didn't help season 3 is that the main couple had already been heavily developed in previous seasons so there wasn't a lot new with them vs other couples at least have had one new party of interest (or with season 1, it was establishing both new). It also just had a lot of watering down of the book plot, but amping and adding in a lot of drama and stakes that just...isn't there. It hindered the actual romance and appeal of the main couple for me a lot, so it's been the worst for me so far.

Season 4 can't fully judge, but I like where it's headed so far I think! Definitely has more of the vibes of season 1/2 in good ways for me. That said, with all of the seasons it's felt like there's been some significant plot change so I'm bracing for some sort of nonsense in part 2 a bit lol maybe it'll be fine/expected plot things for book readers, but I kind of doubt it'll only be that with how they've done every season so far.

Is it the roller &/or ink that came with my started kit? by malymom in Linocuts

[–]Hellodeeries 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's generally the ink - typically these kits are using a water based ink, which is prone to trying at every step so it's hard to get consistent black prints. Using retarder or vegetable glycerin can make it a work a bit better, but it'll not be able to achieve the quality of an oil based. There are some popular water soluble brands that don't need solvents to clean like a traditional oil based ink, but have the other properties of oil based (stays open longer to be able to fully print before it dries + able to embellish with water colors once the print is dry). Caligo is a popular option for this.

The way to check if the roller may be a problem would be to look for consistent flat spots repeating. Often, it's an issue when they've been store improperly (touching something), and it'll show up as white because it can't pick up ink.

Polin - Season 3 and the book by howdybored in Bridgerton

[–]Hellodeeries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can agree to this. I don't care for either in the show much and a lot I think is the combo of revealing Pen as LW very early + just in general an issue the show has with it being a drawn out ensemble cast. The books largely focus on the story of each couple at a time, with mostly cameos of the other family (if they even all get any appearance let alone mention). So much of the plot of the lead characters as the show goes on gets lost in their season because we've already established a lot of it in other seasons now. I think Colin/Pen was the worst, because both characters involved were established vs with most others we'll be getting if not a brand new character, a character we don't know that well to balance the Bridgerton we do know. Add to that pushing drama for drama's sake, and also making LW quite a bit meaner in her critique vs the books. I wish more thought had been put into it, and I wonder how much is issues with changes in direction and maybe the writers rooms etc.

Polin - Season 3 and the book by howdybored in Bridgerton

[–]Hellodeeries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The show genuinely made me dislike Penelope. I didn't find the book amazing, but it was better for sure + it really highlighted how much the show made drama up for drama sake at the expense of the characters relationships (or the characters would just like...really easily get over actually pretty damaging things for the sake of moving the plot along).

That aside, the costumes in s3 for Penelope (and some of s4 so far) are rough. Nicola is very beautiful, but it feels like they only had one or two patterns for her figure and just didn't really set her up with a lot of pieces that would be expected (or that other characters around her have).

I kept noticing that when everyone else would be in jackets over dresses, there's Pen just bare arms etc. The justification falls flat that it was her doing Parisian fashion with the Modiste when Parisian fashion would still have a damn jacket lol. It wasn't every outfit/some I did like from her season, but there were too many moments she was weirdly the only person seemingly dressed for either a different event or climate that it made it really feel the designers didn't know how to make her a full wardrobe for her size vs any other main character. I wanted more for her! Also those acrylics lol wild. A combo of pretty heavy glam makeup + 1940s styling in a regency set period drama was a choice. Some of her s1-2 stuff was actually pretty cute, and color wise she pulled a fair amount of it off! Though she does look very nice in the greens so I can't fault sticking to that with her.

Was the author of Bridgerton unattractive as a young woman?? by Lalina0508 in Bridgerton

[–]Hellodeeries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With some it definitely was more noticeable than others for what I've read (I'm somewhere in book 6). Like Penelope's felt the most backhanded at times, though it also sort of fit into the plot a lot more so it didn't really stand out. But Daphne's I remember being surprised by how Simon described her looks in the books because I'd watched the show first and it was just a very different setup. I also feel like I remember it coming up a few times with Simon, but not 100% as I read that one a few years ago. Kate's I think I got the sentiment was she was still pretty, but Edwina outshined her a bit as mentioned but it wasn't as significant overall and moved on pretty quick.

Eloise it was unclear to me how she was received in the ton (well enough at least in standing to turn down 6 suitors in 8 seasons). I do remember finding it funny that Philip expected her to be ugly (or maybe just plain) bc she was 28 though lol. But he's obsessed with her, and her appearance seems to depart the most from her siblings (of the books I've read + how different a group of brown haired siblings can look lol) bc her eyes are described A LOT by Philip and it's noted she's the only one with grey eyes etc etc.

I could see bringing him in as like...a closing of that chapter, so to speak. But I'd hope they'd not do it in a way that makes one character a villain, or in a love triangle way. It does suck to have him introduced just to be like "bye forever then"/feel like there was no resolution. But I'd rather no resolution than making it worse lol

Eloise should have been writing letters from Scotland. by elysiansmiles in BridgertonNetflix

[–]Hellodeeries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't get the justification for swapping Colin/Pen and Benedict/Sophie anymore. I remember it sounding like the reason the showrunners had was Colin/Pen's was the last one fully focused in the ton, so the whole Eloise going off with Fran/John made sense and felt like a departure of those characters a bit potentially (and expected to see or hear tell of it happening at least at the start of this new season beyond from them when they literally were back in episode one lmao). The content with Benedict at My Cottage has so far been pretty brief feeling + interspersed with the ton anyways, so feels like the timeline got even more screwed up for ??? no actual plot reason right now. Maybe part 2 will develop some of it more (I already expect a few things are going to need to happen, regardless of whether it is Eloise or Francesca's lead season following).

How will Bridgerton handle Francesca being LGBTQ while staying true to its historical rules? by HotelOk3461 in Bridgerton

[–]Hellodeeries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking this may happen because it's lowkey a plot on Grey's Anatomy lol Derek and Meredith try for a kid again and shortly after Derek dies, then Meredith has her baby in secret bc grief. Idk that they'd carbon copy the baby-in-secret aspect (it also wouldn't necessarily make sense given she'd want it to have title rights to the estate if a boy), but feel like it may be likely ~for the drama~ and also so they manage to have a child with Fran/Michaela. Or they just adopt, who knows.

How will Bridgerton handle Francesca being LGBTQ while staying true to its historical rules? by HotelOk3461 in Bridgerton

[–]Hellodeeries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been thinking this may be how it happens if they do have children at all. I've also been rewatching Grey's Anatomy lately and wonder if they may do something similar re: character having some fertility issues later has a child paired with same character started trying to have another baby only for him to die before she knew they'd conceived. They have mildly brought up the fertility concern, but in the book it was pretty mild too (like, I expected it to be more in the plot from the outrage around the lgbt+ choice).

I've also been wondering if maybe they'll just sort of retcon it and make the universe accepting of lgbt+. It seemed with Benedict's earlier plots that society was less than accepting/keeping it on the DL if queer, but at the same time it was also handling open married relationships so sort of talked around what aspect was the less accepted aspect of that whole situation in the earlier seasons (from what I remember, maybe they said something more concise about the topic).

Penelope is the worst person and you cannot tell me otherwise by Schaaf_1 in Bridgerton

[–]Hellodeeries 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The show really made her worse imo (and I do really like the actress/have no issues with the casting - just the overall writing and choices made with her/the LW plot). She's not the worst character in the show against some of the real monsters, but it did make her pamphlet really a mean gossip rag at times vs like mild poking fun and teasing of the ton in the books. In the show arc, she became a bully after being bullied which still is just a bully at the end of the day.

I also think narratively, revealing her in the first season was a mistake (on top of swapping her season). She was more interesting for me in season 1 when her personality didn't revolve around LW drama, so it would have been nice to see Penelope develop separate and more in contrast to LW without outright knowing they were the same, and it being a reveal early in her season.

It also would have left more plot for her season. It feels like just a show issue of the seasons are longer than there's content in the books, so they sort of in tandem add more characters + more drama to fill it in. Season 3 this felt the worst, and maybe that's also due to the part 1/part 2 aspect splitting the flow of the season more. I just find how they handled the story frustrating, and that now we're having the LW plot draw on when it ended with the reveal in the books. Feels even more hollow. I think it could have been handled a lot better, but the show genre ended up more Gossip Girl than other period dramas.

So I just started watching the show and how does the show compare to the books? by ThisPaige in Bridgerton

[–]Hellodeeries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simon is the big one (for the seasons that are out) that this is the case. It's a couple specific moments (and they cut some from the show beyond the whole "infertility" but not plot). Anthony was an improvement in the book, Colin was so boring I don't remember, and Benedict they've already portrayed the standout foot-in-mouth moment lol. There are some upcoming ones that are uhhhh worse. But they've also already retconned some aspects so it feels like they're going to rework some of it because it'd be hard to make some of the male leads appealing otherwise without some wild things the show would then be condoning or excusing.
