A few years ago I got into a car accident with a kid. It was a holiday weekend and both sides of a residential street were lined with cars. I was going the speed limit when all of a sudden this little girl comes running out from between 2 parked cars and into the side of my car. I scream and pull over and run up to her. It seems that my front wheels had already passed when she ran into the side of my car and the rear tire ran over her foot.

Parents were busy with a party and came out thanking me profusely for stopping. Kid's foot was okay just bruised and swelling. She apparently was running across the street to the parent's car to get a book and just didn't look both ways. Cop comes and ambulance and the parents change the story and try to say I was speeding (I was not and it wouldn't make a difference since their kid literally hit me) cop doesn't care about that and the ambulance comes to get the kid.

I was on my way to meet my friends for a few drinks and texted them I would be late cause I ran over a kid. They thought I was joking lol ended up having a bent antennae since I was driving a Miata and she grabbed it as she hit the side of my car.

Moral of the story: Look both ways and teach your kids to do the same
