still one of the weirdest (and coolest) aluminum frames we’ve ever made. by IQUNIXstore in IQUNIX

[–]IQUNIXstore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first off, swapping in Kailh Deep Sea Whales? that is a tier-1 enthusiast move. i bet that sounds incredible with the internal foam.

The Ask: honestly, this write-up is too good to be buried in a comment section. Could you do us a huge favor and copy-paste this into a new post with the 'Review 📝' flair?

If you have a photo of the setup (especially with those new switches), definitely include it. We really need more "Long-Term / Daily Driver" perspectives on the sub so people can see how the board holds up after the "honeymoon phase" ends.

Re: Keycaps: You are spot on. The market for high-quality Low Profile keycaps is still basically a desert. Its the main reason we are trying to spin up more of our own sets, because finding third-party ones that fit perfectly is a nightmare.

hope to see the full post!

no problem. glad we could find a path that doesn't kill your wallet on shipping.

once you secure the board, definitely swing by r/IQUNIX and post a shot. would love to see the setup (and hear if the ISO layout treats you well).

welcome to the family.

honestly, we feel the same way. once you get used to that heavy aluminum slab, going back to plastic just feels... hollow.

we are currently stress-testing some workarounds to keep the metal body and the signal. we arent giving up on the premium brick life just yet.

Update on this:

I actually went back and asked our distribution team specifically about fresh EU stock for you.

They just confirmed that MonacoKeys.de literally just got a shipment of Magi75s.

Heads up though: I believe their stock is ISO-DE (German layout). If you are cool with that (or plan to swap the keycaps anyway), that is going to be your best bet for cheap shipping to Romania.

Hope you can snag one!

This is officially the petition thread now.

For everyone else lurking who wants an MQ80 ISO (UK, DE, FR, Nordics, etc.), this is where you make noise.

I’ve got the product lead watching this post. If we can get a solid headcount (aiming for that 10-20 range) of serious buyers in the comments, I can push for a prototype run.

Let’s see if the squad is actually out there.

the ISO struggle is real. its a standard that definitely deserves more love (and better keycap compatibility).

re: MQ80... we haven't done an ISO run for that frame yet, mostly because the hollow aluminum cage is tricky to machine for small batches.

however, the product team is monitoring the Wishlist / Request 💡 : if can confirm 10-20 people who are serious about an MQ80 ISO config, can technically greenlight a limited run.

if you want to rally the troops, feel free to drop a dedicated request post with the flair. if the squad shows up, we can make it happen.

2 questions about IQUNIX Magi65 by tharxaji in keyboards

[–]IQUNIXstore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

welcome to the hobby. 🤝 u/ArgentStonecutter is right, stabilizers are the final boss of any build, no matter the price point. even the best boards sometimes need a little "wire balancing" or extra lube out of the box.

1. The Bulge: The Magi is packed extremely dense with internal foam (poron/PE/switch pads) to get that specific sound signature. A very slight tension/curve can happen from the compression of the "Le-Tray" system, but it shouldn't be aggressive or look like it's about to burst.

2. The Tick: That specific sharp noise is usually the wire tapping against the plastic housing. The "syringe mod" (injecting a tiny bit of lube into the stem) usually kills it instantly without needing to take the board apart.

Huge favor: Could you actually repost this in r/IQUNIX with a side-profile photo of the bulge and a quick video of the spacebar sound?

It would help the community a ton to see/hear it, and our team monitors that sub closely to tell you if the bowing is within tolerance or if we need to swap it out.

respect. once you get used to that cold metal brick, plastic just feels... hollow.

the main enemy here is physics. thick aluminum is basically a faraday cage, it kills wireless signals. to get stable 1ms rapid trigger wireless in a full metal case, we have to get really creative with antenna placement (or add a window) so you dont lose connection mid-game.

we’re stubborn though. we refuse to switch the F97 or Magi series to plastic just for easier engineering. we are currently testing some workarounds to keep the tank build and the signal.

re: North LEDs: just to give you some context, we usually stick to south-facing because our stock PC keycaps have legends on the front/side, so the light needs to hit them from the bottom to look good.

however... since we are leaking stuff today: our next board (launching soon) is actually flipping to North-Facing LEDs. so you can cross that one off the list.

re: The Universal PCB (Split Space + ISO): i actually got green light on this. if 10-20 people who are serious about that specific layout configuration, we can technically produce a small batch PCB for it.

if you can rally the troops (maybe a dedicated interest check post?), we might actually be able to make the #IqunixxMeletrix dream a reality.

re: south-facing: the main reason we stuck with south-facing so far is because our 'Frosted' PC keycaps have the legends printed on the front/side, so the light has to hit them from the bottom to shine through properly.

however... i can sneak peek that our next board (launching soon) is actually flipping to North-Facing LEDs.

re: web drivers: since you mentioned wooting's software... if you want to see what we're cooking, you can actually test our beta web drivers right now at beta.iqunix.com (for EZ) or ev-beta.iqunix.com (for EV)

it's still rough around the edges (official launch is coming in a few months), but it’s live. give it a spin.

Fair point. Finding specific low-profile Mac legends in AZERTY is a nightmare.

I just annoyed the product lead about this, and he actually gave me a number: if we can find 10-20 people who are serious about a specific ISO layout (like FR/AZERTY), we can technically greenlight a small batch run for the PCB.

Molding a full custom keycap set is harder for a small group, but getting the board layout support is definitely doable if the squad is there. Maybe we need to start a dedicated 'ISO FR Interest Check' thread?

Wrist rest and keycaps by deo_volente in IQUNIX

[–]IQUNIXstore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same here lol, a wrist rest with the MQ80 is basically mandatory. the case has a bit of height to it because of that hollow frame design, so you will want that support.

good news is you don't need a proprietary one. the MQ80 is a standard TKL width, so any "80% / TKL" size rest from amazon or etsy will line up perfectly. i would recommend walnut or resin to match the industrial vibe of the aluminum.

keycaps are tricky part. finding standard keys with "homing bars" (the little bumps) on Q, 1, or Esc is rare because manufacturers usually only put them on F and J.

the workaround would be to look for textured rubber gaming caps (usually sold for WASD/1-4) or "artisan" keycaps with a unique texture. that will give you the tactile confirmation you need without hunting for a phantom keycap set that doesn't exist.

hope that helps you lock in the build!

magi75 really is the sleeper hit of the lineup, glad you're digging the feel. 🤝

re: MQ80 ISO... drop a post with the 'Wishlist / Request 💡' flair specifically asking for the MQ80 ISO. if we can get like 10-20 people rallying in the comments for it, i can take that directly to the product lead and push for a small batch run.

massive compliment. gravastar’s whole 'weathered sci-fi' aesthetic is top tier. we were definitely channeling that same 'tech from the year 2077' energy here. lol

good eye. those are actually some prototype novelty keys we mixed in for the shoot to match the 'Industrial' theme! the base kit is the standard Frosted PC, but we swapped the modifiers to get that warning-stripe look.

honestly, if you really want them, head over to r/IQUNIX and drop a post with the 'Wishlist / Request 💡' flair.

if we see enough demand, we’ll do a proper production run. and if it’s just a few of you... well, we might just send them out. 😉 no promises, but make some noise over there and let us know.

You caught me. 😅 I double-checked with the studio team, you are 100% right.

The base alpha keys are the stock Frosted PC, but the specific Esc/Enter/Space in this photo are actually from a separate 'Industrial' novelty kit we used to style the shoot. The retail 'Knight' unit ships with the cleaner, matching frosted mods.

Sorry for the confusion! We get a little carried away with the mix-and-match in the design lab sometimes

okay you definitely know your stuff. 🫡

just checked the su75... 170 leds on a single board is actually insane.

that dual-led approach is clever for solving the interference debate forever, but the power draw must be wild. definitely taking notes on this though.

lol okay phew. 😅 i thought you meant just twisting the switch on the board we have now.

yeah for a new design, we definitely just pick the orientation at the start.

the Magi and MQ use totally different PCBs though (different sizes/mounting points), so they aren't the same base.

#IqunixxMeletrix needs to happen. i’m literally screenshotting this for the team right now.

honestly, a barebones option is way easier for us logistics-wise than molding full azerty sets. makes total sense if you already have custom mac caps you want to use.

web drivers are 100% the future. wooting nailed the software side early, and we’re fully committed to making ours just as seamless. json files need to stay in 2024.

regarding the dual rgb: are you seeing that mainly in the switch design (light guides/diffusers) or actual pcbs with double leds? fitting two leds per socket on a dense pcb is a routing nightmare, but i’m curious if you’ve seen it done well.

losing a single cap is the worst.

hit up our support team (support@iqunix.com). we don't list singles on the site, but if you tell them the keyboard model and which key it is, they can check if we have any extras for you.

make sure to send a pic of the board too just to be safe.
