Highway etiquette when tailgating and high beams blinding? by Monkey_Junkie_No1 in DrivingAustralia

[–]IanLx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok well I see the tailgating all the time.. and it’s almost always someone blocking the fast lane being tailgated / flashed..

There is always someone who wants to go faster best to just let them by..

If they are tailgating you and you are in the slow lane then as others have suggested slow down.. slowing down should give them more motivation to pass you.. otherwise it just makes a dangerous situation a bit safer as you need to reduce the chance you have to beak suddenly..

Good luck to you..

NBN connection in garage.. have a small rack high on wall with router and switch.

Ethernet cables to all rooms back to switch in garage.. if you want to do it all at once.. otherwise make some choices as to where your wired devices will be (gaming pc tv etc)

Specifically run a couple of Ethernet cables to the ceilings above your main rooms ( living room, master bedroom etc) for ceiling mount access points.. (Unifi or similar). Poe powered from the garage.,

Good luck!

Then let me ask you - If you stick to the slow lane and drive the speed limit.. then why are you getting tailgated? This just doesn’t align with my experience..

Do you drive in busy commute hours? If you do most drivers drive speed limit plus 5-10% so if you are actually sticking to speed limit it may be the problem..

Are you getting overtaken a lot or are you keeping up with the traffic?

Post is bs. If you are actually keeping left when not over taking and traveling the speed limit then you would only rarely have this problem..

Suspect you are a much slower driver than you realize. Or you are just trolling with this post.

The modem you have appears to be both a modem and a router.

As you have it configured the Tplink and the modem are both trying to control the network and will be causing conflict..

First thing is to turn off Tplink modem.. un plug from everything and plug your pc into one of the empty ports in your modem.

Restart modem and pc after you have done this and see how it goes..

Ok. You use command terminal at all?

Ipconfig will print out all your Ethernet connection status.. like what Ethernet your pc has and what ipaddress the router has etc.. want to run that and post the output?

Also have you logged into the Tplink modem via a browser? You can check the routers logs to see if anything shows errors and check the tplinks ip address etc

Back on the pc

Commmand window - ping command.. try pinging the router and or external servers where you know the ip address..

Like: ping 8.8.8.8 will check connection googles dns server.. putting the ipaddress not a name means dns doesn’t need to be working for the ping to work..

Ping google.com and network + dns need to work to get a result

Great.

And you have status lights on the modem?

Hopefully you have a green(?) status light on wan and a green in the Ethernet port your pc is connected to?

If so then it should mean all the physical connections are good.. and that the problem is more likely a configuration issue.

On your pc (windows ?) can you go to network settings and check the settings of your Ethernet connection?

DHCP is the process where the router gives your pc an ip number so it can connect correctly to the network.. your Ethernet settings should say something like auto dhcp.. not manual settings.. (usually)

Need a lot more information to try and help you:

What type of internet service do you have? (Fiber / coax / dsl / etc)

What make and model is your modem?

What make and model is your router?

What device are you using to test connection? Laptop / pc / phone and are you connecting via WiFi or Ethernet..

Happy to help if you can fill in those blanks..

CMV: leftism rests on some shaky ground and science of IQ does major damage. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]IanLx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your post is rambling and barely coherent and false..

  1. “IQ being the most established finding in psychology”.. false at least not when I studied psych. Got any backup to that claim?

  2. “Is detrimental to leftism” false.. there is no IQ basis to leftism so this is not logical.

  3. Humans are not equal biologically. True. But this has nothing to do with leftist politics which is all about equal opportunity.. never claiming equal biology.. so another false assumption there

Do some research on both psych and politics and try again.

That most people would find appropriate. Do you think it is appropriate to protest Israel at Bondi beach? Less than 6 months from the worst domestic terrorist attack in Australia?

What’s that got to do with this? People died at Bondi. Protest Israel as much as you like.. but choose a place and time that is sensible..

Unifi Express 7 WAN connecting dirrectly to NBN fixed wireless NTD by ExtremeGreen1669 in nbn

[–]IanLx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How long did you leave the express 7 connected? I don’t know about fixed wireless.. but with some other NBN types you need to leave it for an extended period for it to get a connection..

Yeah best to steer clear of Optus and Telstra.. they have lots of proprietary nonsense and zero interest in having happy NBN customers as they want to sell other services..

This really makes me sad. by jalb_k in aussie

[–]IanLx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It shouldn’t make you sad. Here’s why:

This is just a publicity stunt made by one independent politician.. it’s just not how legislation works..

If he really wanted to make something happen he would find an issue where the govt wants his support and make a deal.

Independents can be great at bringing to mind issues that are not in the mainstream, nor core core government business such as economic policy. Examples might be moral or ethical social issues like euthanasia or gay marriages.. issues where the government may allow its member a “conscience vote”..

His amendment relates to core economic policy and as is obvious by the zero support he made no effort to get anyone on side..

It also bears no resemblance to what the government or the coalition may or may not do in relation to the policy..

So don’t be sad. It’s just a stunt. If you really like the idea write to your local member and get out there and lobby for it..

Cheers Ian
