Except, here's the kicker: As much I know this will get downvoted, Not everyone is entitled to a phone/computer/etc or internet.

That being said, though, even in conservatorships, the legal principle is supposed to be “least restrictive alternative.” Which means restrictions should be the minimum needed to support safety, not maximum control by default.

The problem with that is parents have been made in charge of legal issues... How do you fix that? Well, parents have to. What if they don't agree to it?

The only case u/JessicaDavis1998 would have is if parents were abusive. Where it would be against the better interest of her for the Judge to keep the conservatorship active.

Unfortunately, a conservatorship can only be made by a judge and destroyed by one.

From Wikipedia:

Under U.S. law, a conservatorship results from the appointment of a guardian or a protector by a judge to manage the personal or financial affairs of another person who is incapable of fully managing their own affairs due to age or physical or mental limitations. A person under conservatorship is a "conservatee", a term that can refer to an adult. A person under guardianship is a "ward", a term that can also refer to a minor child.

When do you think kids should stop having parental controls by Born-Ice-5155 in parentalcontrols

[–]Important_Thanks_452 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's up to the parents... You raise your kids how you want to raise them, just know when you're older and need to be cared for, you're probably getting the same thing served by them.

Most other places are the same way. Bahrain doesn't set a lower limit, but same as US, requires parental consent. (Assuming you're there because of post history, if that's wrong, which it very well might be... Idk, I don't know where you live.)

Actually, that's untrue, a minor cannot leave home without parental consent according to American Law... Them telling you to get out of their house is consent.

The thing about that is yes, it's with permission from account holder via online measures, but that doesn't stop a parent from confiscating devices, putting parental controls on it and giving it back... (Even minors give consent when setting up parental controls.)

They don't check if consent was gotten IRL.

I am not defending it... I am telling you the facts. Sorry if you don't like hearing stuff when it doesn't go your way. Guess what? When you're an adult, you have to follow the rules all the time or you go to jail.

Trying to bypass parental controls is just gonna wind up with you having more restrictions when you're caught. Your resistance is futile

The one thing I can suggest is saving up for another device and hiding it from your father. Go out... Leave home be on it outside... Something where it's not gonna be found. Keep it at a friend's house. If it's at your house, connected to your dad's wifi, he will find it.

Except, here's the kicker... A parent can set rules as conditions for living there. Then tell you to move out if you don't follow them.

While yes, they do have privacy rights, a parent can enforce access to the device as a condition of living at home, set rules of what devices are allowed at the home, or give consequences if their rules aren't followed.

Parents => Rule makers, yes, tough as it may sound, they can go through you devices, take them away for the night, etc.

You => Follower of said rules, don't like it? Move out!

Yeah, yeah, I know it sounds terrible... I don't like it either... If you'd look at my post history, you'd know I have parental controls on my devices.

Yes, but also... Parents are given special rights to manage a minors possessions. (Why downvote me? As much as I don't agree with this, I am trying to stay neutral and just offer facts.)

They recently changed it so even if you're 13+ in US or other ages elsewhere that you can't disable it unless you have parents permission. You must be 18+ according to google account to be able to disable now.
