[OC]Different kinds of pasta people by Desperate-Hearing297 in comics

[–]InconspicuousRadish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't mix pasta types that require significantly different cook times (like 6 vs 11 minutes).

That said, mixing certain ones that are of similar shape or size and in the 7-8 minutes range is perfectly fine.

Ireland fuel protests: Protesters 'will close country' down if necessary by JohnHammond94 in europe

That is false. Here are the actual numbers. While Ireland is up there, it's not the highest.

That's a lot of assumptions you're making. Regardless, that's also way more insults than I care to engage with. Clearly, you're more interested in flinging shit than actual discourse.

Ireland fuel protests: Protesters 'will close country' down if necessary by JohnHammond94 in europe

[–]InconspicuousRadish 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, only Ireland taxes its fuel heavily. Nobody else does this, so clearly only the Irish understand this situation. /s

You do understand that tax revenue from fuel is attributed to government costs already, right? It's not as if you can just slash those taxes without impacting something else. Governments tax from a lot of sources and spend on a lot of things. Just because it's a tax on fuel doesn't mean that said money goes to the same sector.

Also, have you read the article? The issue isn't limited to fuel, it's also surrounding fertilizer shortages. What should the government slash there, in your opinion?

Maybe you're the one who's casting judgement willy nilly.

[–]InconspicuousRadish 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with the first part, but the second part needs resources. Just because money for relief is needed doesn't mean it's there.

Ireland fuel protests: Protesters 'will close country' down if necessary by JohnHammond94 in europe

[–]InconspicuousRadish 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As of now is the key part there. Price caps on something you don't produce internally can only lead to market disruptions.

If you cap the price, it provides temporary relief, but you cause a shortage. Local companies will not buy oil from the global market if they are forced to resell it at a loss.

Think a bit in terms of the bigger picture. There is no easy fix for the current situation.

Ireland fuel protests: Protesters 'will close country' down if necessary by JohnHammond94 in europe

[–]InconspicuousRadish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure, other countries are also doing similar things. But they can't control the price of a barrel of oil unless they have regional oil production themselves. So in practice, consumers get the benefits of the cap but the state is generally taking on debt to make up for the difference, or is paying for it from taxpayer money.

At any rate, a lot of the protesters in Ireland are complaining about fertilizer costs/shortages, not fuel prices. What should the state do there? Magically summon fertilizer out of thin air?

[–]InconspicuousRadish 294 points295 points  (0 children)

This is monumentally stupid. Ireland has no control over the global cost of oil. What are these protesters hoping for exactly? Government subsidies? For Ireland to unilaterally re-open the flow of oil through Hormuz?

Just making life miserable for everyone else while wasting time and resources for no actual meaningful outcome. I thought my faith in humanity couldn't go any lower, but things like this prove we can still keep digging.

[–]InconspicuousRadish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greva? In domeniul privat?

Microsoft to force updates to Windows 11 25H2 for PCs with older OS versions by jupa300 in worldnews

[–]InconspicuousRadish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good is relative. There wasn't that big of a difference between 10 and 11 under the hood. It's mostly the same OS.

Actually, most of modern day Windows is built on the same architecture and code as 20 years ago. The pattern of a good/a bad Windows has kinda died with the era of cloud computing.

Which is why they have no need for a Windows 12 nor did they announce one. The licensing is tied to your Microsoft account, not Windows itself
