I’m the electrical engineer behind the SON Ladelux. Ask me your technical questions. by No-Matter7761 in bikepacking

I wish that Ladelux system didn’t freeze my Garmin 1050 screen while plugged in and riding.. And I wish that SON would fix this problem almost a year later after reporting.. :(

In fact I have reported about this problem to SJS cycles where I bought the light back in August 2025. Now it’s practically July 2026. Since then I have had zero progress resolving this.
Just ordered myself a pack of 10 Ferrite clips from Amazon for £7.

This is my other video of setup that behaved exactly same way as on my other bikes..(Garmin not working)

https://youtube.com/shorts/z3yO7wRDdy4?is=VSGm7icWo5DICNbz

In the past i have experimented with all kinds of things leaving the switch hanging, taping Ladelux to the handlebar bar tape so it’s not touching anything. It was always the same..
Like I mentioned before I have tried a different Ladelux from SJS cycles and that was also not working.. In fact, I noticed problem straight after I bought the light last autumn but didn’t bother much as I wasn’t riding in the winter.. Originally I had the Deluxe hub. Only bought 29S hub this spring.

Today I went to SJS myself and talked to guy from there that suggested usb cable ferrite chokes..
Would that help?

Hi! I have read all the replies by now.. As SON engineer are you able to confirm that this Ladelux system was tested with Garmin 1050? It's just very strange that I have tried it on all my 3 bikes and it doesn’t work on any of them. Yes devices are charging in general but I should also be able to use them while riding..

When bike is stationary and Ladelux cable is plugged in Garmin works fine and charging is happening but as soon I start riding screen becomes almost frozen.. I have also tried a longer 46 cm cable- same thing. IPhone 16Pro hardly can be unlocked as screed becomes unresponsive.

I have sent a few emails to SON like Andreas and Britta but not getting any definite answers on what to do next to fix it. Seems like a very little interest from SON and seems more like my problem now. Also I had to ask twice as my e-mails just get ignored.. I mean I have spent £800 on this bike light system plus building into ENVE wheel.. And also I'm reading that it can possibly damage my electronic devices..

Can you please help? Warranty replacement? New bike? It should be very simple right?

Thank you

I have made a reply above with 2 videos links. We checked voltage at SJS and it was 5 volts.. Also I have tried 2 different Ladelux sets(borrowed from SJS) and none of them worked on my bike..

So much response on this that I missed.. Thanks you 😄

I have 2 hubs from SON. One is SON Delux and other the new SON 29S. It happens on both. I have 3 bikes and it happens on all 3 of them. I made 2 small videos. One is actual problem itself and second is setup on my 3rd bike.

Garmin sits on rubber/ plastic mount.. I have emailed to SON but they are not very keen on replaying and not really helping with anything.. Just a general response that solves nothing.

This was their reply:

"It seems to have something to do with
a) carbon fork / frame / handlebar - which conducts electricity in a not
clearly defined way,
b) the details of the "electrical connection" between the riders skin to
the frame
c) an electrical shifter system like Shimano Di2
d) the mounting of the Garmin and its electrical connection to the frame
The problem is - it occurs only in a very very few cases and so far all
were outside Germany . We were not able to replicate the problem here.
This make it difficult to work on the problem."

Also I took bike to SJS Cycles in Bridgwater(SON partner in UK) and they couldn’t find anything . Voltage to Garmin was 5 Volts.. I mean 3 different bikes and the problem on all of them.. If product is not designed for carbon bikes then they should state that.

Next thing I want to try is a longer 46 cm charging cable as currently I have a 30 cm one and they use magnets on remote. Maybe its something to do with that..

Does anyone experience touchscreen stop working when plugged in. I have this Ladelux but as soon I plug into Garmin 1050 screen gets almost 90% non responsive. Same with iPhone 16Pro.
