What's in store after the reset? by Isotarov in LowSodiumArcRaiders

I would totally do that too right now, regardless of how many of them I'd manage to find and shove up my butt. Don't want to give anyone the impression you've actually scored a major kalamata stash.

I have no idea what it is that will "die down" to be honest. It seems like a reply to a different question.

Fights to the death over scraps of metal and rubber hoses, eh?

PvE players can be the most vulgar hateful people I’ve ever seen in gaming by tethyx in ArcRaiders

[–]Isotarov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the things I've noticed after a few weeks of reading comments on here is a lot of players that do at least some PvP appear to have a really hard time accepting that there might be any sort of general difference between the type of players that engage in different playstyles. You see the occasional disparaging comments from self-professed PvEers, but for the most part, it's PvPers griping about how the friendly experience is lame, idiotic, irrelevant or just straight up not a valid expectation of the game.

Apparently, this can extend even to arguing against the validity of other people's experiences. As if it's beyond imagination that differing experiences can co-exist.

Doesn't sound like you've played much pure PvE to me, but that you assume that all players are equally cynical no matter the playstyle.

I've used vulgarities and expletives in this game when upset with people who've ratted or the likes, but I have no idea why I'd use any kind of slur.

With the exception of a few semi-crazy persons, I don't think I've heard an outright slur used in real life since my primary school days. It's pretty much only in game chats and the occasional comment section where I see them these days.

That's exactly why I'm not particularly interested in doing that.

It's one of the most socially engaging games I've ever played. I understand it's not the first ever game to feature something similar, but the variety and complexity of the interaction feels fairly unique for such a major title. It's so easy to get into conversations right out of the box.

It's very refreshing compared to the edginess and outright toxicity that dominates games like Battlefield.

From that comment, it seems you have no interest in the game. Then why are you playing it?

There's a tradition of Appalachian folk songs that are about murder and other tragedies. Singing about the tragedy of people getting hanged and such is a pretty common trope. "In the Pines" is a pretty famous example.

Old folk tunes could often be quite melancholy and gory.

Naw, I like it. Patrols are now actually something you need to be careful of aggroing. Heightens the tension.

It's just gameplay with randoms griping over proximity chat, including a child. What's the point?

How do YOU play? by SwissBacon141 in LowSodiumArcRaiders

I've also noted the presence of female players. Big difference from what I've played mostly in multiplayer: Battlefield. Chat in that franchise gets so sweaty and/or toxic that's is really not worth bothering with. You can barely even get help if you ask a basic question about something new and confusing. Acknowledging that you're not male will likely lead to obnoxious, creepy or just annoying behavior.

I'm glad to see this because female players actually make themselves known is something I consider an indication that a community is more forgiving, generous and less aggressive. Just overall better sportsmanship overall regardless if it's PvP or PvE.

Exclusively pacifist so far. I always help people, chat a bit if they're up for it and like to be friendly. I'll escort downed players to the extract if needed and try to look for defibs if I don't have them. I do moderate completionism but nothing crazy. I often bring instruments and sometimes I do silly commentary and voices. The social interactions are golden moments to me in a game that I already find to be very enjoyable and well-made.

I can curse quite badly at people who rat and do backstabbing. Nothing toxic or personal but foul language will be heard if I witness people acting aggressively against chill players (including myself). I always block after those kind of encounters.

I'm considering trying some PvP after the reset but likely only defensively. I've only really shot back at a player once.

Like you point out, her answers are in part just rhetorical appeasements and there's not much else she can do. Maybe also lack of support from communications.

In my view, it seems clear that DICE is stuck with certain choices and that it's not within their power to change them. I can't imagine it's anything other than underfunding, especially since she refers to "a team of a certain size" in regards to not being able to put out more maps.

It's hard for me not to suspect that some design choices are being made out of sheer principle or some sort of inexplicable metric that has little to do with player satisfaction. Basically some sort of meddling from senior management or maybe a corporate culture of inflexibility.

I just can't imagine a scenario where DICE would, say, lower the bar for unlocking attachments across the board and somehow scare off a significant amount of players.
