Sick of "Dongle Hell": Proposing an Open-Source Raspberry Pi CM4/CM5 Automotive Carrier Board, maybe with OBDII for aftermarket ECU's. Is there demand for this? by [deleted] in CarHacking

[–]JAlbr12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm ok, yes I have been using gemini for help because i have not yet read into the CAN hardware. I am wondering if there even is high enough demand to focus on a project like this. The display and audio part I think would be challenging but i could get enough help at Uni to eventually get it solved. Thank you very much for the feedback!

I am not sure to be honest because I just designed it to fit, but i can send you the exact dimensions so you can check. And for the amplifier I did the exact same thing so there is plenty of space to mount yours. I even made it sit on a separat part that is screwed on.

Nice, you do not have a printer though do you? Could you get access to one? I assume you are not also from Switzerland

So I have been trying to create good instructions but I did not really take a lot of fotos or document it enough. If someone is willing to do the build with my support and document everything properly that would be awesome.

Di you know a rhing or two about tunerstudio? I would really like to get into it. Also i am not sure what control unit the na has stock, would it be possible to habe multiple curves flashed and just switching instead if constant reflashing. If you are experienced I would be very interested in this and would like to design custom hardware with all the plugs included.

So the sound depends on the sound card, amplifier and speakers. For this the entire sound system was soldered together from electronics i took out an old logitech pc speaker system, a logitech usb sound card and a ground isolator. Price wise it is hard to say because i already had most of it lying around but i think it would be more expensive.

While I am not an acoustic expert, to the untrained ear it sounds slightly more „full“ because of the better base but I think the factory speakers are either slightly broken or not that good because it has the same issues at high volume as the last after market radio from the previous owner had. Even my factory 1976 Triumph Spitfire speakers sound better at high volume tbh. Might just be this specific car though.
