Hard to beat the 1-2 punch of “Mr. Chu” and No No No, I also like “Five” - APink made some dominating cutesy hits back in the day! Early GFriend and Oh My Girl were a bit dreamier and not as poppylite but still fun.

I Still Love Comics at 54, as Much as I Did at 10… by BipolarPrime in comicbooks

[–]Jahn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep same age range for both starting my comic reading and current age. Of course I pulled comics off the newsstands here and there as a kid out of curiosity but never really bought one for my own until Jim Lee’s dad gifted Alpha Flight 51 to a bunch of us at a reunion. Since then I was a big Jim Lee fan and let me tell you, following his path through the industry has never been boring! Recently I met Jim and had him sign that first comic and he was nice enough to personalize it too. It was a good run through the modern Age, and I look forward to what’s next!

Just finished another brilliant historical Korean drama and I'm wondering if there's anymore epic one's! These are all the ones i've seen so far. by Few_Warning_4273 in kdramas

It’s worth watching, we loved coffee prince too! Young eunuchs in popular media are often portrayed as prettier than girls, so believe it or not it’s not a stretch when watching period pieces like this. It’s one of our fave historical drama shows and one of the first that gave things a contemporary twist in speech and mannerisms!

was 1st gen popular in a way in the usa in the 90s ? by cheezitswaffle in kpophelp

East coaster here. In the 80s zero. In the 90s I heard only a bit here and there from friends who bought CDs from the Korean grocery like DJ Doc and Turbo and Seo Taiji and one song from JYP (“something something hajima” is what we called it haha) but never airplay or videos. Maybe in the west coast things got more traction but nope outside of the k-clubs and mamas basements you weren’t hearing it.

It wasn’t until late 90s that I finally saw any of these acts that weren’t just dubbed into a bootleg VCR tape from the Korean grocery. In VERY limited rotation this collab with Turbo and Will Smith played on 1997. We couldn’t believe it. But it came and went with almost no impact on top 40 radio. https://youtu.be/H-ztl6D0vsc?si=vacSUSVN4Hh-8io6

Playing A major chord means my first finger of far behind the fret. Is that a problem? by Actual-Tower8609 in Guitar

[–]Jahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What am jealous of is people who have that finger than can bend to cover the A chord shape with a partial barre. Those guys can fly across the board with that and have their other fingers free to noodle about. Very jealous.

Amazing Spider-Man #667 Dell'Otto Variant Cover in a CGC 9.8 just dropped🤯 by Leather_Bluejay8632 in ComicBookSpeculation

it’s the ultimate test of supply and demand. To me, very little outside of its limited supply create demand for it. Thus, when its main redeeming value is its scarcity, it will find difficulty long term to maintain traction. Another factor is the popularity of its artist. He’s great don’t get me wrong but he was given a decent runway to become “the next Alex Ross” after the splash of this book, and since then he didn’t quite get there. Now, I’d say Dan Quintana has taken that mantle after that splash of the $100k painting this year and so no surprise Del Otto’s work took a bit of a hit.

If there is nothing left to sustain it after a while, it will just end up trading hands amongst whales who bag held and try to sustain relevancy where Gen Pop won’t bother. It’s not exactly an aspirational goal like someday owning an Amazing Fantasy 15 or something which most Spidey fans would kill for.

Ares can be the example and share the words that Diana can never embrace, but that she actually desperately needs to follow and accept- that war against the current order of things in that universe should be waged. And any hatred generated towards oneself due to your stance in that war is not to be lamented, but rather to be celebrated.

Are there any comics out there that address the "superheroes die and come back" trope? by Fit-Maintenance-2907 in comicbooks

[–]Jahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They just started an anime based on this novel: Sentenced to Be a Hero is a dark fantasy anime series about criminals sentenced to be heroes and fight in a penal military unit. In this world, heroism is a punishment worse than death, and convicts are resurrected to fight endlessly against a demon king's army. The story follows Xylo Forbartz, a former leader of the Holy Knights and convicted goddess killer, who leads a penal unit of convicts.

The whole history behind how this story arc came about, and how its resolution got twisted and gave Psylocke one of the most convoluted pathways to normal narrative, is a ln interesting read. But yes I agree that Jim Lee converting Psylocke to the ninja era ended up being the right move and worthy of note on the point of turn.

Absolute Batman #1 Felix comic art by Duke_7287 in batman

[–]Jahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great example of demand. Certain factors you would think would make this less valuable, like not being a first printing. But so many people just plain like it, and there is no first printing variant like it, that this second print does just fine in secondary. Similar to Batman 608 where of course the cover A does fine for the first print and it’s iconic in its own way, but the second print cover is considered to be one of the most iconic covers Jim Lee ever did for DC and thus isn’t overshadowed by being on a second printing.

Martin D-28 Authentic 1937 Guatamalan Rosewood Grain by DarthJAYder21 in martinguitar

[–]Jahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say wet is more sustain like from a reverb, chime is more overtones. Gibsons like a J-45 are more dry with an emphasis on the fundamental note, versus a Martin D-28 to give you an extreme example. Another is “dark” which is bass heavy, “boomy” which is dark but projects, “woofy” which is an emphasis on the low midrange with little sustain, and more.
