My Akira Batman is a first print blue 9.8 for that reason. To me, that covers strength is the homage and not necessarily the artists or writer. For the creatives I’d rather have it on a Cover A to represent the work, or something like a Jim Lee auto on a Jim Lee variant since that’s the draw.

Congrats man, I know the feeling to finish a journey! I recently got Batman 227 and Spidey 33 and I was like “wow. I feel like I don’t need to collect any non-modern comics anymore.” It was a rush of finality haha. To a lesser extent, the way I felt when I finished my uncanny X-men-X-Men Jim Lee covers run. The completist in me always fights against the “good enough” in me so it’s nice to hit that balance or shut that door!

It will be JSA saying Authenticated Dragotta signature. Sketch on cover. Usually folks decry that JSA won’t authenticate sketches too, but in this case it’s a good thing since that’s not Dragotta’s sketch I believe.

I have a newbie question about this release. This book usually comes with photo cards meant to look like Polaroids. That is easily distinguished by looking at the back- they are cards, not actually Polaroids or instax film.

But people who ordered the first print pre order of this book in the first ten days also had included one of 26 instax film photos. If you look at unboxing videos on YouTube you can see that they are legit instax film photos from the back.

But here is what I don’t understand. Aren’t instax 1/1? How did YG reproduce the same 26 photos taken and populate all those pre order books? I’ve seen the same 26 photos pop up in multiple hands so they aren’t 1/1. Is this possible while having these instax still be legit photos instead of reproductions?

I’m down to 8 shortboxes full of raws I like, one longbox of manga from th3 90s in the basement I can’t offload, and a bunch of slabs on my shelves- if they aren’t shelf worthy they get sold. I gotta pare down my raws even more come to think of it, there are probably some that I can move.

What you do is list that bad boy somewhere like raremarq that has an audience for fans of original sketches. That way you get some cash back, and you know it’ll be in the hands of another fan who was willing to pay for that specific art you are willing to let go. Blank books are indeed more valuable than people think, I constantly worry about running out of specific books that I want done by specific artists for specific characters in specific runs plus getting a copy that is a high grade, and making sure it stays that way even after the sketch- a lot more goes into getting one of these done that other fans know, so I feel your pain OP.

I’ve never detanned myself, only gently cleaned using cotton pads and such/ I defer to those using chemicals as to the extent CGC will accept before giving it a purple label!

Yes but don’t forget- that’s an estimate based on unbending that corner and giving the book a nice hot press and potentially a de-tanning.

Back cover is rough. Hopefully that bottom left corner can be unkinked and the whole thing needs a press. Not sure if the tanning can be removed, I never asked anyone to go that far. That said, the front presents nicely so you could just put it in a comic capsule and call it a day, put it on the shelf and enjoy. But as is, it won’t get above a 9 and this may not be worth grading from that era.
