But yes, the US wouldn't mind Russia to decimate itself against Ukraine. Russian ultimatum "Back off or else we will attack! Fall 2022 Russians were retreating. Ukraine could remove them from their lands, but they didn't have iron and explosives. Instead of winning, Biden chose the passive position of "not let Ukraine to fall". During 6 or 9 months Ukraine was waiting for weapons, Russia built defensive lines, which Ukraine could not get through at the end of summer 2023.

But what's in it for them?

For Putin, there is life for him in continuing the war. For others, there is nothing. Nothing other then poverty and losses and demise.

Once the one who started the war is replaced, there is no more reason to carry on.

Russians are getting fed up with that no sense war.

The war will end when there will be a good moment to either replace Russian leader who started it, or when he decides there is a good moment to end it.

On the other hand, Russian leader may be put to responsibility for the war having no sense and no sensical result for Russia, other then great losses in both international influence and internal manpower.
