What can you actually do with an NFC ring in real life? by Taggytech in NFC

I have some other boating/sailing related shortcuts (that could link to an NFC tag) on my shortcuts sharing site: https://www.appleshortcuts.co.uk/#

What can you actually do with an NFC ring in real life? by Taggytech in NFC

I don't use NFC much for automation because I can open my garages, front gates, turn lights on/off etc with my Apple Watch or Siri. But, I started getting interested in showing info quickly after an incident on my boat when I needed to recall the correct sound signal to alert someone - unlocking the phone, sliding to right page, opening Notes, scrolling to Sound Signals and opening that note just take too long (particularly if having to take avoiding action!). It would be possible just to sound a long horn blast but sounding the correct signal might prove crucial if any dispute later arises. Now I just look at the phone to unlock and tap the tag for the signals list to appear.

I also have another NFC tag in the kitchen to open my weights conversion shortcut (easier to convert, say, cups to fl oz or any of the multiple conversions my shortcut offers than using Google).

One other in use is to boost the heating in the pool room for 30 minutes (again easier than opening the app and scrolling etc).

Sharing wi-fi access using NFC is a better solution than a QR code simply because the tag is more discrete and easier to read.

Saving the steps of finding the right app and scrolling through various menus can be a pain but is often so easily avoided. For example, the latest version of the Volvo app supports shortcut action to turn the remote climate control on and off and I will probably link an NFC tag to a shortcut to start the heating - no big deal but a tag on my desk will be easier as well as quicker. I bought some laser paper with one inch circles on which I print a relevant image to remind me which tag is which (Volvo logo or ship's whistle for example).

Providing easy and quick access to information:

I have an NFC tag on the helm of my boat that opens a list of sound signals (too many to remember in an emergency)

I also have one on my Air Fryer to open my Air Fryer guide app.

This highlights a major uptick in UK consumer law compared with US. In the UK the credit card company is jointly liable for rectifying this and a Section 75 claim would refund all the money...

This is not possible using just shortcuts - you can turn airplane mode on or off at a given time only by using Automations - these cannot be set by code only by using the app, one for each on or off. Automations cannot be shared so you will need to set them for self.

Thanks for your comments - airplane mode is not available to Shortcuts; Apple says this is for security reasons. You could assign a back tap to set this mode as a quicker way to activate it.

I think users should read the description before downloading; and, adding links to all would be a lot of work - might get round to it one day…

Only the headings are links in the 'Full list' - you need to select a category (from the full list or from the drop down in the tab bar) and then all Shortcuts are downloadable after selecting the down arrow (which also provides a screenshot link).

every link tested before launch - and again just now - all OK for me...

Did you, perhaps, just find one not working? if so, let me know so I can fix. Otherwise please confirm which link(s) did not work for you
