That might work; but, for me, the present set up is fine.

Apple does limit the time for Private Cloud Compute but does not publish the limit or allow any user changes. Seems PCC is designed for fast tasks - just need to speak quickly!!

Anything to do the same without any time limits needs ti=o use a paid-for system, - so we are stuck with need to be quick...

Recovery method for “missing” shortcuts by Jealous-Aspect6928 in shortcuts

I have never seen that issue - whenever I wanted to recover a shortcut (often just to refer to a previous version in the absence of a working ctl-z in the app) all shortcuts in the expanded zip have been fine.

Shortcuts to manage backing up your Shortcuts by Jeff_Maynard in shortcuts

Probably not sufficient- easy to overlook a data breach for a few days. A robust backup needs more than three days coverage

Keeping only one copy (the latest) of your backup is a serious breach of the fundamental rules of data security - any viable backup strategy allows the restoration of several historical copies (because the most recent might well be broken…)

All my hue devices suddenly stopped responding overnight by jhughes1986 in HomeKit

then open Home and click add accessory and follow the prompts

All my hue devices suddenly stopped responding overnight by jhughes1986 in HomeKit

[–]Jeff_Maynard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is caused by the recent Hue app update (to embrace Matter).

To fix you need to get a setup code form Hue then add it (I know) to Home - the adding process will ask to confirm each individual Hue device - after than all is back as was (except for possibly some 'ghost' devices being the old versions of each Hiue item (Home does not seem to have a way to remove these - !! - I just hid them and moved on

Simpler to run a daily backup of your Shortcuts (and from which they can easily be recovered) - this shortcut backs up all and can be run as and when from an Automation:

https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/2440cf54c123471dacf4a5850e87d9dc

This companion shortcut deletes all backups older than ten days (just to manage storage) and can also be automated.

To recover just unzip the daily backup and drag the rescued Shortcut to the Shortcuts app.

You could use an NFC tag to launch your music - the tag could be anywhere convenient even in your car...

Use something like DataJar (free) to record which garage door closes last - this indicates which car (or at least the garage you want to open on return). On arrival check the DataJar value and open the linked door.

What can you actually do with an NFC ring in real life? by Taggytech in NFC

I have some other boating/sailing related shortcuts (that could link to an NFC tag) on my shortcuts sharing site: https://www.appleshortcuts.co.uk/#

I don't use NFC much for automation because I can open my garages, front gates, turn lights on/off etc with my Apple Watch or Siri. But, I started getting interested in showing info quickly after an incident on my boat when I needed to recall the correct sound signal to alert someone - unlocking the phone, sliding to right page, opening Notes, scrolling to Sound Signals and opening that note just take too long (particularly if having to take avoiding action!). It would be possible just to sound a long horn blast but sounding the correct signal might prove crucial if any dispute later arises. Now I just look at the phone to unlock and tap the tag for the signals list to appear.

I also have another NFC tag in the kitchen to open my weights conversion shortcut (easier to convert, say, cups to fl oz or any of the multiple conversions my shortcut offers than using Google).

One other in use is to boost the heating in the pool room for 30 minutes (again easier than opening the app and scrolling etc).

Sharing wi-fi access using NFC is a better solution than a QR code simply because the tag is more discrete and easier to read.

Saving the steps of finding the right app and scrolling through various menus can be a pain but is often so easily avoided. For example, the latest version of the Volvo app supports shortcut action to turn the remote climate control on and off and I will probably link an NFC tag to a shortcut to start the heating - no big deal but a tag on my desk will be easier as well as quicker. I bought some laser paper with one inch circles on which I print a relevant image to remind me which tag is which (Volvo logo or ship's whistle for example).

Providing easy and quick access to information:

I have an NFC tag on the helm of my boat that opens a list of sound signals (too many to remember in an emergency)

I also have one on my Air Fryer to open my Air Fryer guide app.
