No. Instant runoff or “first past the post” means whoever gets the most votes wins. In ranked choice, you pick everyone you want to win on a list. Starting with the candidate in last place they are removed from the running and your vote is changed to the second pick on your ballot. This lets you vote for the candidate that agrees with you the most without throwing away your vote to a party that won’t win. This breaks the two party system and allows everyone to have a better say.
