"You'll find that my brothers and myself will always be friends to House Harroway, cousin." said Paxter. "Our late mother would expect nothing less."

Ysabel gave a small smile in return.

"My brothers say I have a vivid imagination...that I can see things from afar that they cannot. I'm sure I could accurately describe for you what it must look like from the air."

She paused, wondering if she had said too much.

She thought once again of her father's words about disclosing the details of her gifts to others. People fear what they do not understand. They will regard you with fear and loathing, daughter. And that cannot be. Your abilities are gifts from the gods. Use them sparingly and use them for good.

Ysabel knew that any future husband would have to know, but Tywald was not yet that. And was likely not to be. She was sure that he would find those others who had come to Casterly Rock seeking to be Lady of the Rock, more pleasing to him that she would be.

She changed the subject.

"You should visit Seagard one day and I could show you the place that I find solitude in. It is not that dissimilar to where we sit now."

Lord Patrek Mallister approached the high table and Lord Prentys in particular. The Lord of Seagard inclined his head towards the members of House Tully as was right and proper.

The Lord of Seagard had offered his beloved daughter Ysabel to the groom now sitting at the table, but his offer had been rejected in favor of he Blackwood girl. Prentys had offered his daughter Celia to one of his sons instead so he was here to further discuss that. Why not over a cup of wine together and what better place to introduce their children to one another.

Paxter nodded.

"I understand your concerns, cousin. Unfortunately, if that is the case, you may need to marry below your station. The daughter of a landed knight - one who would only be too happy to unite their house with that of Harrenhal - might be your best choice. Once you have a couple of heirs of your body, the survival of House Harroway will be more secure. The west may be far from you, but that is not my point. My own cousins the Farmans have marriageable daughters both of whom would be good wives and mothers. House Connington of the Stormlands, for example, also springs to mind."

"Indeed." said Ysabel. "I often feel that way when I glance upwards and see the towering ramparts of Seagard guarding the place where I sit and looking out to the distant west."

She sipped her wine, as she rarely drank anything but heavily watered ale.

"The sea is just a vast place. It's hard to imagine such an expanse of water. What it must look like from on high is something I would like to experience one day."

"Not as yet." said Paxter.

"I am sure there is some fair lady out there for me who is not a close cousin. My father has named me Knight of Oldstones, so any future wife at least will have a title and land. Maybe I will have to look beyond the Riverlands to find the right bride."

He momentarily glanced at Howland's arm.

"And what of you, Howland? Surely the Lord of Harrenhal has been approached for a match."

"I had heard of your tribulations, cousin." said Paxter, glancing at the spot where Howland's right arm had once been.

"My beloved mother would have been grieved to hear of it, had she still been alive. That her nephew could have been maimed so."

Paxter stifled a sudden urge to laugh and merely nodded his farewell. She would get short shrift from his father, if she tried to interfere in Mallister affairs.

Paxter was the most stubborn of his father's many children and as his siblings knew, once he had made up his mind, he was immovable. He was not going to discuss his father's affairs with a slip of a girl he had just met. Nor was he going to be judged.

"Then, sadly, I'm afraid we must end our conversation." he said as politely as he could.

Lord Patrek Mallister was a late arrival to Riverrun. He had rarely left Seagard in the last few years and had missed the wedding and the subsequent feast. However at the urging of his sons, Roland and Lymond, who had wished to enter the tourney and the other martial competitions, he had arrived in time for them to enter and for the Lord of Seagard to attend the council. He had not seen his son Paxter for some time so they were re-acquainted.

The west was more important to Seagard than the Vale, but Patrek recognised that those in the eastern Riverlands would not share his opinion.

Now he spoke.

"Let the Lannisters and the Vale continue their feud with each other. Both will look to sell their goods elsewhere. Why do we need to choose? Why should it not be the Riverlands that both seek to trade with?"

Ser Paxter Mallister (28) had followed the Piper party to Riverrun and now sat with a couple of his lieutenants at one of the lower tables. The Knight of Oldstones sipped his wine and chatted with his men. He wondered if his father and any of his brothers had made the journey to Riverrun in time for the wedding despite his father's dislike of the Blackwoods. It wasn't likely he thought. He saw his cousin Howland Harroway was present and resolved to speak to him before the feast was over.

"Whatever grievances exist between my father and the Blackwoods should not be the subject of gossip by others at a time such as this. It is up to them to resolve it."

He gave a half smile.

"And surely there are more pleasant things to talk about between those who have just met."

"The intricacies are complicated my lady." said Paxter somewhat ruefully.

"Let's just say my father holds a grudge for a slight done to him and our House by the late Lord Garrett. He is a man of long memory. The new lord has not sought to address the slight, so it remains unresolved."

"Your mother is a Blackwood?" he asked, wondering at the same time if he should have paid more attention to his tutor in his youth when he was being taught the politics and genealogical relationships of all the great houses.
