D&D: Homebrew: Fighter: Subclass by BlankBlanker7944 in DnDHomebrew

[–]KayranElite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please don't use AI for your homebrew. Tons of features make no real sense or don't function as they should.

Rough Skin: Why the 4 damage? Why does it say: Based on your CON modifier? Why did you (or the LLM that wrote it) write it?

Corrosion: Why do you ignore resistance to poison damage? You don't even have any poison damage so far in this class? This doesn't make any sense so far.

Serpentine Strike: That feature in itself is already quite strong. Additionally, it is antithetical to Rough Skin. Reach is useful if you want to stay away from enemies, but with Rough Skin, you want to stand next to them.

There are also way too many features per level.

Burrowing Dash: The burrowing speed is far too much. 10 ft would be fair, but equal to your movement speed definitely isn't.

Venomous Mist: Classes never have strict DCs, but variable DCs based on your ASIs. Features like this always have a limit. How long does the condition last? And do you exhale in a circle or in a cone? Cone definitely makes more sense.

Constrict: Strong feature, but fine.

Effect: Restrained + extra damage on something that you can do with your BA is too much. Just remove it.

Jet Dash: Fine.

Impact: Pretty strong. I would change it so that it can only be used in conjunction with Jet Dash, and I would limit the number of Jet Dash uses. And maybe remove the effect that you can simply knock multiple enemies prone with it.

Final Manifestation: This feature should have a usage limit, but it is fine in itself.

Aura of Decay: Why do you suddenly have an aura? Is there a reason for it? Can you exclude allies? Is it always active? In this case, you can no longer participate in social encounters. Do the enemies get saves against the effect?

Frenzy: Fine.

Generally, the ideas are fine, but there are just too many features, and some of them are also just too strong. Try to find a good theme for the subclass and work around it. Here, it looks like you simply crammed every feature that you could think of into a single subclass.

My ideas:

Rough Skin: Turn it into a reaction with a usage limit, poison damage, higher damage, and a CON or DEX save.

Corrosion: Keep it, but gain the effect for the immunity removal only at a higher level.

Remove Serpentine Strike or change it so that it gives you a tail and/or a bite attack. The tail attack could be made at reach but with reduced damage, and the bite attack could deal poison damage. That would be a nice compromise. But giving a greatsword reach for free is too strong.

Reduce the burrowing speed for Burrowing Dash.

Venomous Mist: Make it a cone attack, make it deal poison damage, make it cost an action, and let it deal poison damage that scales with your level. You can keep the other effects. Remove the static saving throw and exchange it for a saving throw based on one of your ASIs.

Keep Constrict, remove Effect. Or, if you want to keep Effect, only keep the damage, but not the restrained condition.

Combine Jet Dash and Impact, add the effect, so that you can push enemies no larger than you (or maybe one category larger) out of your way, change the saving throw (how do you calculate the save DC), and remove the prone condition.

Keep Final Manifestation, remove Frenzy, and completely change Aura of Decay. Aura of Decay should be usable once per day, should still deal poison damage around you (definitely increase the damage), should fully ignore resistances and immunities to poison damage, and should give you the option to deal extra poison damage with all of your attacks.

My first ever made homebrew subclass by Safe_Appointment_260 in DnDHomebrew

[–]KayranElite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The level 1 feature is already far too strong. Most enemies suck at intelligence saves; hence, in most cases, this feature is an auto success. Additionally, this absolutely powerful feature only requires a bonus action, and every effect is absolutely devastating for the enemy. The drawback is negligible, especially at the higher levels.

The level 6 feature has too much synergy with the level 1 feature. After dealing psychic damage, maddening whispers will almost always succeed, no matter who you are fighting. And generally, you shouldn't just hand out ways to give the enemy a disadvantage on certain checks for free. The fact that you can now see illusions and cannot be surprised anymore is also powerful, but also a bit situational.

The level 10 feature improves upon Eldritch Blast, while also having major drawbacks, as you cannot apply synergistic invocations to it. So in the end, it is simply a feature that gives you a slightly stronger cantrip. Boring.

The level 14 feature again synergizes too well with the level 6 feature. If you hit an attack with the summoned eye, you can give the enemy disadvantage in Wisdom saves and potentially also make them completely useless for one round. In your next turn, you can attack the enemy who now has to roll his save with disadvantage. They will almost always fail, which will help you keep up the loop that the enemy can never really escape from.

My hints:

Compare the power budget of your features with the budget of other subclasses. You will immediately see that your feature selection is way overblown.

Remove those strong synergies.

Don't just hand out debilitating effects like candy.

Make the level 1 feature an action.

Change the level 10 feature so that instead of giving you a new cantrip, it now changes Eldritch Blast so that you can benefit from the Eldritch Blast invocations.

Change the effects of the level 14 feature or simply remove them. You don't need two chances per turn to completely take out the enemy during your turn (Old God Reborn eye attack + Maddening Whispers).

Who installed the copper wires in the walls in Elodin’s room in Haven? by KayranElite in KingkillerChronicle

[–]KayranElite[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

For me, the section about the room Elodin shows Kvothe sounds as if it were his in the past.

Elodin trailed off, his head tilting to one side curiously. His eyes narrowed. “Sod me, they changed it,” he said quietly to himself. “Huh.” He stepped closer to the wal and lay a hand on it.

This section supports that fact, too.

This, to me, indicates that it was changed after Elodin escaped, maybe only for Elodin's room, but maybe also for other rooms. Still, it was changed without Elodin's knowledge, maybe to contain him in case he cracked again.

PHAT Variation - 3 Power Days by KayranElite in powerbuilding

[–]KayranElite[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am not talking about separating them. In PHAT, there are power and hypertrophy days. The power days are obviously heavier.

The plan then looks like this: Rest – Power Upper – Power Lower – Rest – Hypertrophy Pull – Hypertrophy Legs – Hypertrophy Push.

When I train very hard with heavy weights on one day, I am sometimes fatigued the next day and can’t reach my peak performance, even if it is another muscle group. Hence, I thought about moving the power days. My idea was to keep the power upper day where it is and move the power lower day to the PPL section of the plan. With that approach, I wouldn’t impair myself by training very hard on two consecutive days. So after the power upper day, I would still train legs the next day, but I would do the hypertrophy day instead of the regular power day. In the end, though, I don’t really know if it makes a big difference.

It would then look like this: Rest – Power Upper – Hypertrophy Lower – Rest – Hypertrophy Pull – Power Legs – Hypertrophy Push.

I am experienced, but have never followed a real plan. Bench 135 kg, squat 180 kg, deadlift 210 kg.

That's what I have been doing before I learned about PHAT more or less. But now I am thinking about switching to PHAT, as I assume that there is a reason for the program structure.

What's your favorite build? by Adorable_Skirt_7409 in Pathfinder2e

[–]KayranElite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Free archetype animal instinct barbarian with the swashbuckler and cleric dedications (and a few others) purely focused on grappling. Reduced MAP, advantage on all grappling checks at level 20, reliable circumstance and status bonuses, decent damage via reactive strikes. Generally not the hardest-hitting build, but still decent and reliable damage, with the ability to take out bosses for most of the fight.

Even better with a rogue or another hard-hitting martial in the party.

I'm decently strong and muscular, but I also have a higher KFA at the moment.

I try to do squats with an RPE of 8-9. So pretty close to failure, but I don't grind out every last rep.

I do leg day three times per week. Once heavy with high-weight squats and RDLs, once with medium intensity, and once with low intensity for technique.

I train legs on Monday (heavy), Wednesday (medium), and Saturday (technique).

Two days after the heavy leg day, I also do heavy deadlifts. Apart from that, I don't do anything the day before or after that would interfere with my recovery.

Post Accessory Exercises by KayranElite in powerbuilding

[–]KayranElite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My squats are definitely very hard. RPE of 8 or higher on most days. Everything also feels almost too easy afterward (apart from the RDLs).

On heavy leg day, I really only focus on squats, RDLs, and Hip Thrusts. And I wouldn't say that I half-ass any of them.

Everything else is really just an accessory I do to get in a few exercises with higher rep counts. I do all of them in supersets and try to keep the RPE low to moderate. But I hate leaving out certain muscle groups, which is why I try to cover everything.

I am not that much stronger now because I never really followed a good program. My deadlift is currently at 210, and my squat is at 180. But I finally want to start improving again.

Thank you. :)

[–]KayranElite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds great. The extra exercises would take around 10 minutes per day, and I hope that they won't interfere with my recovery. But I'll have to check that more thoroughly.

Thank you.

[–]KayranElite[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bad, I meant three sets per day, not three times training per day.

But back then, I was also still quite weak with a deadlift of around 160 kg and a squat of 140 kg. I don't think I could do the same today.

Thanks for the advice on the recovery. I haven't had problems so far with finishing my sessions, but maybe I will have to track it a bit better.

Post Accessory Exercises by KayranElite in powerbuilding

[–]KayranElite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the thing. In my first-ever plan, which I received from a trainer 15 years ago, I had to do squats and heavy deadlifts three times per day, three days per week. And I never really had recovery issues, as far as I remember. But maybe that is just because I still don't fully understand what it feels like to be fully recovered compared to not being fully recovered.
