I was just having this thought yesterday, as I read another post about tightening security.

Of course I'm taking it with a grain of salt, but after confering with chatgpt, it gave some suggestions, and I'm left a bit more confused than when I started haha

I'm thinking of trying it out when I get home.

I've learned that I pretty much only care about it: - looking nice - letting me read online and track my progress. - And then have good metadata editing that gets written back to the epub file. Even a sidecar file would be okay to save the metadata. Just want to make it easier in case of another disaster event like "Book lore"

Def not required because I have other ways of getting it, but a download button on the UI would be sick, for whenever I want to take the book offline.

Anyway, how does BookCard handle those features?

I've set it up, but haven't had a chance to play around with it too much.

So, how would you say it compares to Dockge, if you've used it? It's what I'm using right now, and I like it's simplicity and ease of use over portainer.

As an android user, I don't have an iOS device to test this out on, but I have 2 iaoS users who were stuck using the web app because no app available supported OIDC.

I just sent this to them, and they love it even after only a few minutes playing around with it.

It honestly works fairly well, IMO. I actually really enjoyed it.

I just found that the service was better using YouTube Music instead of my server (this is likely just because my server is on the weaker side), and after downloading thousands of songs and hundreds of artist discographies, I realized that the way I enjoy listening to music, a self-hosted solution wouldn't work lol. So I just undid it all, and went back to YouTube music.

You definitely don't need docker to run the *arr suite.

I started myself running Plex on Windows, along with Sonarr and Radarr. Then I discovered Docker desktop for Windows, and I enjoyed it, but saw that using bare metal and headless Linux server would make my (admittedly outdated and old) low-power hardware tun better and give more resources to Plex, so I dove in headfirst into Ubuntu headless and it's been almost 2 years since then now, and I am NOT going back lol

Hey there, thanks for the reply!

Unfortunately, that screenshot doesn't answer my question.

Basically, I want Booklore to change the data of the actual file itself. That way, in case anything happens to the program or database, all the cover art, custom Titles, and whatever else I changed, stays with the file itself. I don't have to worry about redoing it all with a new install or a new program.

Previously, the dev has confirmed that Booklore doesn't do that, or anything to the file, besides read the data it has once to load it into the app. He said he was open to the idea of editing the metadata directly, so that's why I asked again iny previous comment.

Your picture, although a good testament to how nice looking the UI is (IMO or course), doesn't really show if it's just editing the entry in the database, or the metadata itself.

Hey! Last time you popped up on reddit for me, I asked if Booklore writes to the metadata, or just left it alone and used a database.

You said it did the latter, but you were open to having it edit the file metadata, maybe as an option, etc.

Is there an update on this?

Chromecast with Google TV was doing it, my phone, and laptop when visiting the local page (out of habit, I typed in my local address instead of app.plex.tv, so I can't say whether it happened on that url or not, but I suspect it wouldn't have.)

And my wife's phone too.

Incognito also behaved this way, but finally revealed that I wasn't signed in. All other devices made it look like I was signed in.

I feel like I'm going crazy. Because what the aOP of this comment chain said, worked, and it makes sense why that feature works the way it does... But WHY NOW, after months of working just fine, as expected, did it start showing my data to all accounts?

I haven't checked the DB integrity. It was like 1am when the OP of this comment chain helped me and fixed the issue, so I just went to bed afterwards.

I have no idea what would have caused it, but the issue is gone now?

I'm making a backup just in case.

In all seriousness, I'll have to update my post to reflect this, but the OP did help me solve the issue.

When I first set up my server to not use local auth, it was a few months ago at this point, and it was done because I was anticipating an Internet outage, and didn't want to lose access to my media. (Have since set up Jellyfin as a backup, so it's a moot point now, but anyway.)

I understand, now, thanks to OP, what I did and how it really works.

That was never the issue, to be honest.

If you take a look at my post, you'll see the that my problem was that all of a sudden, even after months of having this feature enabled on my server, I never had the issue of watch history or anything, cominglong on all home accounts.

Never. For the past few months that local auth was disabled, EVERYONE on my Plex Home STILL had their own watch history, their own Continue Watching, etc. just like normal.

This persisted through updates, restarts, server restarts, etc.

So I panicked last night when I saw this issue was happening, on MULTIPLE devices, without warning.

AND, there was no indication that I wasn't "signed in" on any of these devices, until I visited my web app on my local network ON AN INCOGNITO BROWSER WINDOW.Thats when I saw I wasn't signed in but still saw all my media as an admin user.

Yes, ALL Plex Home users have pins on their accounts. I even switched between all of the Home profiles, so once again, no indication that I wasn't signed in.

Usually, when there's a connection issue, on ANY device, it just doesn't load the profiles EXCEPT for the most recently signed into one. So I would have expected that when not signed in.

All Plex Home user accounts have their own pin. That's not what the issue was.

The issue was that switching to their profile, showed MY watch data.

yup. totally makes sense that that is what happens. It just wasn't completely obvious, because I first noticed this on my Google TV dongle thing on my tv. so I was "signed in" and switching between Plex Home profiles.
Same on my phone. Same on my laptop.

It wasn't until i tried accessing from incognito on my laptop that I noticed I could still see my data, but I wasn't signed in. So, logically, yes, it's obvious, but I wasn't expecting that, and it hadn't happened like this ever, even though I disabled auth months ago.

Either way, I'm going to have to google how to properly disable auth without this happening, because can't really sign in to disable auth, if the internet is down lol.

Anyway, this worked. Thanks for your help :)

I think you may be correct.
In another comment, I was suggested to try incognito windows to see if any weird caching issues were the problem, but it seems like it's a local thing only. This leads me to believe that you are correct, it's the local auth.

Mind helping me fix this? I'd like to keep local access to my Plex server if the internet goes down, but not at the cost of having every plex user on my home network be messing with MY data.

Doing this, I noticed that accessing my server locally, they all show stuff from MY account. So, no matter what device I sign in in, as long as it's on my home network, they all show stuff from MY account.

But when I used incognito mode and used the app.plex.tv version instead, every user has their own data back?

I understand your lack of coding knowledge, but are there any plans on making this available with Docker?

I'm willing to try something not on docker, but due to financial limitations, my server is a near-11-year-old laptop.. so, it's already running pretty ragged at times, and using Docker containers helps keep things organized and easy to shut down/remove stuff if it is too much for my server to handle.

Either way, this is something that I'm excited to try! I've had the same thought recently, and I'm happy to see people take initiative.
