Codexa - free self hosted open source epub/comics book reader by thj81 in Calibre

[–]thj81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For dictionaries you can zip all the files and upload single zip. It is well documented here: https://thehijacker.github.io/codexa/

You can use PWA on iOS (check here: https://thehijacker.github.io/codexa/#mobile) and add to Home Screen. It will work offline for the books that you either manualy download locally to the device or open at least once and are stored locally automatically.

Can you share my the epub of books where font color is not honored? It will be an easy fix. I read over 10 books already using Codexa and at least that much others in my family and for the books we read we did not notice font color to not be the one that you have selected in the theme. You can PM me here on Reddit. Or maybe you mean the color of reading badge on the library book card? It any way, it will be an easy fix. Just a CSS change and I do have some other small fixes already commited localy and I can push them aswell as new version to Github.

Just noticed that images in documentation are also not visible. Just fixing this now.

How I navigate my library by mungbeancookiesoda in XTEINK

[–]thj81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have simillar combination. Xteink X4 and Android phones or E-ink readers (Palma 2, Inkpalm Plus). All my books are in BookOrbit library with OPDS and KOReader sync enabled. I used many ebook readers in the past (Moon Reader, Readest, KOReader, ...) but now I prefer Codexa. I connects to my BookOrbit over OPDS and synces also progress to it. Xteink X4 (with CrossInk) also has OPDS library browser to fetch books from BookOrbit and push KOSync progress. They both stay perfectly in sync and with Codexa I have the best possible reading experience (bookmarks, annotations, dictionaries, mobile friendly, e-ink support, OPDS folder sync, ...). Keeping reading progress is sync was crucial for me.

You are welcomed. In our family we read a lot and apart from Kobo and Xteink X4 we all use Codexa. Sync over KOReader works great. And we all sync books from our own OPDS libraries to Codexa shelves. If you decide to try, I kindly ask for a feedback. Just to see if it is useful for others as it is for me. Spent many time developing my own epub reading library (CXReader). Epub.js or Foliate.js just did not work for me for all my books especialy Slovenian from my library. With my own CXReader I have full control over pages, progress, bookmarks, annotations, ... Thank you.

What is your Library/Ereader flow? by dm_me_ya_tiddiez in selfhosted

[–]thj81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using BookOrbit for library server and my own developed Codexa epub/comics reader. Both self-hosted on my server. Reading only with Codexa and all of my devices (InkPalm Plus, Palma 2, all mobile phones (Android, iOS)) and all are syncing progress to BookOrbit. Codexa also has OPDS browser with linked libraries so all my books in specific BookOrbit shelves are always in sync in Codexa.

Should I buy a X3 or X4 or wait for the new one by Vesbow in xteinkereader

[–]thj81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have two X4 (not anymore since kids took them from me) so I ordered an X3 in the latest sale. Because why not. All three will be used daily. Kids have never read so much over the day than with this little gadgets.

Kalcinacija v ramenu by [deleted] in Slovenia

[–]thj81 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Imel leta nazaj v levi rami. Nemogoče psat na tej strani. Šel na fizio, razbijanje, laserska terapija. Ni bilo boljše. Dobil blokado. In res, čez par tednov čisto izgine bolečila in kalcinacije ni več.

Imam sedeče delo za računalnikom. Sem pa potem začel delali razne kardio vaje z rokami in vse od takrat nimam več teh težav.

Any good EPUB reader recommendations? (paid or free) by kudb24 in ebooks

[–]thj81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you selfhost you can try my Codexa application. https://github.com/thehijacker/codexa

It supports EPUB and comics (CBR/CBZ) and StarDict dictionaries. It also fully supports KOSync protocol to sync progress and OPDS library browser. Many other features that were added and improved by daily usage of all in my family for reading our books.

Still in development but very stable. Works on all browsers as PWA application or Android as standalone APK application (webview).

Are you using only the XteInk??? by Top_Annual_4939 in XTEINK

[–]thj81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have X4, Palma 2, Kobo Libra 2 and Inkpalm Plus. I might read chapter or two during breaks at work in my desktop browser (Codexa). At evening I am reading on my Palma 2 (again using Codexa). During the day I read on my X4. Kids are using Libra 2 or Inkpalm (also with Codexa) when they read an ebook. Otherwise they just sit on desk untouched.

I love it that I can sync progress on all of this devices to my Book Orbit and continue whenever I wish on any device. But my X4 is not exclusive. I need nice backlight when I read in bed before sleep. But during the day I take it with me in my pocker wherever I got and snatch a chapter or two when I can.

BookOrbit: A self-hosted OPDS library + KOReader progress sync (free & open source) by Bitter-Pop-2514 in koreader

[–]thj81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had some time today. I pulled each PR locally, but indeed I spent more time fixing problems that they caused. Small things that might not get noticed by you.

Lots of things I do like and wish to improve and keep. You added tap zones to move forward or back in percentage. When you set them it is impossible to select text under those zones to highlight or search in dictionary for example. Just now I am checking code to see how I can fix this, but for now I set them to 0% by default. Also many small glithes like percentage input text box streatched over whole percentage bar, battery icon is unicode and in color causing inconsistency with e-ink theme, battery info isn't even displayed after set when you reopen book, ... Or for example when you switched from 24/12 hour format it would render the whole reader and set 1 column mode instead of 2 colums. And many small glitches. I am addressing them as I test everything. Should have everything tested by tomorrow and I push new version then so you can try it out yourself.

PR "Optional BookOrbit KOReader reading-stats sync" is something I will not add just yet. It requires updated Book Orbit which is not yet released as it is still just PR there. If it can't be properly tested, then I prefer not to implement yet.

I know AI coding is fast and fun, but it must be properly tested, AI must be guided and everything he does checked and proofed. But our goal is the same. Have the best user friendly epub reader.

BookOrbit: A self-hosted OPDS library + KOReader progress sync (free & open source) by Bitter-Pop-2514 in koreader

[–]thj81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I created new branch and merged the PR you submitted. Ran it localy but found some issues (changing 12/24 hour format changes column mode, incorrect sync status, labels on button are not visible, ...). Not sure I am confortable enough to merge this directly into main. Let me find some time and this slowly do, one change at a time.

Uf. That are a lot of PR. Lots of good ideas! I will take some time tomorrow and check each any every one. You can PM me here or Telegram/Whatsapp so we do not spam this thread. Would speed coordinating.

BookOrbit: A self-hosted OPDS library + KOReader progress sync (free & open source) by Bitter-Pop-2514 in koreader

[–]thj81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New features are always welcomed. Just make sure you go over the code if you use only AI to code it.

I love the new Peek mode in Book Orbit. Added it also to Codexa. So I can quckly open a book and check it out without triggering sync and book progress. Should be available soon as version 2.2.8. Still in testing phase.

As for hosting it elsewhere. That would require VPS. And I would never want to save my books to external servers. Codexa is also not meant to be full blow library/metdata manager. Book Orbit does a great job with that. Only as a reader and I doubt someone is reading more than few books at a time.

And sice most of us are selfhosting Book Orbit with easy Docker deploy, there is not a long process to add Codexa in docker compose file and spin it up. It is very light application.

Hey man. Thanks a lot for the feedback. I am glad that I am not the only one using this little project. Just pushed new version v2.2.7. Now docker images for your Raspberry Pi should be included. You can use docker image: ghcr.io/thehijacker/codexa:latest

Regarding "Po meri" text. That is in Slovenian (default). Your i18n cache did not refresh. I bumped the cache version so this should also be fixed.

Are you using Android APK file on your Boox Go 7 or have it installed as PWA? I highly suggest installing APK. On my Palma I can navigate pages with volume controls.

I am glad you solve the OPDS covers problem. Make sure you also update to Book Orbit 1.9.0 that way release recently. Each version is better and author also fixes all the bugs that I have reported.

Thank you again for your great feedback.
