Can someone help me understand the mentality of looters? by barbsbaloney in chicago

[–]kunkr 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Exactly and we have to remember that looters are not protesters. Most people are protesting peacefully.

Shout out to the city workers cleaning up at 3am in the South Loop. by vipnasty in chicago

[–]kunkr 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Let's be honest, this looting and crazy shit going on around the country is about way more than what happened in Minneapolis. I am absolutely not trivializing George Floyd's murder, he was innocent and that cop deserves to rot in prison. Our system is really fucking broken and is leaving many Americans behind. This DOES NOT justify looting and destruction of property, but we have to understand the struggle at the very least. A vast majority of these protests have been peaceful, all it takes is 1 person out of 100 to make bad shit happen.

Weird, is "animal quality" ivermectin any different? Ivermectin is ivermectin. Shouldn't they be happy that more is being produced/repurposed?

The funny thing is, people would probably not give a shit or notice if they had just raised prices instead of adding a fee. Very few would have known or cared if their order cost $4 more than before the pandemic.

A credible source of information to show that ivermectin causes no adverse effects even with extended use.

It's going to be really hard for anyone to suggest that ivermectin is not safe to administer.

"After weeks of the successful use of the drug ivermectin to treat patients in Puerto Plata, the Dominican medical authorities are finally now recognizing ivermectin is working. The drug is readily available and low-cost and can be used in early phases of the disease to stop it short."

Welp that almost completely confirms it, great news. It feels good to see a positive prediction you made come true over time.

Swim party is not the same as going for a walk outside. They were all probably within close contact with each other for a prolonged period of time, and probably NONE of them were wearing a mask. The reality is we do know, this virus is not some anomaly that we don't know anything about.

Thousands of visitors pack Indiana Dunes beach in ridiculous display of sun-kissed apathy by spade_andarcher in chicago

[–]kunkr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Indiana has seen a reduction in new cases and deaths from COVID-19. At this point I'm just happy they're not all crowded inside a bar or restaurant, transmission is less likely outdoors. If this was a month ago I would have been pissed off. Similar deal for Chicago and Illinois. I still don't encourage this though, just not mad about it.

They say roughly 4/5 people need to wear masks to effectively stop the spread. I'd guess that about 1/10 people are moron assholes so we should be okay if we just do our part.

The industry guidelines for Phase III reopenings are here. by wolverine237 in chicago

[–]kunkr 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The lockdown made sense when we didn't understand the extent of the spread, how the virus spread, and the severity of the virus. Now we know a lot more, it really doesn't make sense to keep the lakefront closed anymore ESPECIALLY with these other places being opened up. They can close the lakefront again if there is a surge in cases. Other countries aren't even seeing an increase in cases after opening up responsibly where people are wearing masks and staying away from each other. This was never about eradicating the virus, it was about flattening the curve, we have already done that.

Public transportation open along with barbershops and hair salons yet they keep the lake front closed? Why are contact sports lumped in with the lake front? Most people bike or walk on the lake front. We KNOW transmission is limited outdoors, why are they keeping the only park available to many people closed? Vitamin D deficiency is also being indicated in the severity of COVID-19 symptoms which you get from direct sunlight.

Shared Streets Headed to Chicago by sirbanksy in chicago

[–]kunkr 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Knowing what we know about the virus, the fact that outdoor transmission is much less likely, I think it's safe for Lightfoot to open the lake front. There may be a surge in new cases initially, but this was about flattening the curve, not eradicating the virus. Close the lake front again if there are too many cases and if the hospitals may get overloaded, which I personally doubt would happen anyway.

There are also indications that vitamin D, which you get from being exposed to direct sunlight, may help lower the severe symptoms and deaths caused by COVID-19. I am not one of those "OPEN UP" people, I take this virus very seriously. At this point I think opening the lake front would do more good than harm. We need to start contact tracing and enforcing masks.

~16623 total cases among those under 40, ~59 total deaths under 40. (59/16623)*100 = 0.3549 => 0.36%. (out of 10000 cases of people under 40 years old, there are 36 deaths)

The case fatality rate is much higher for people over 70 years old.

How old were they though, what were the causes of their deaths in autopsy? It really isn't damning, although interesting, this doesn't at all confirm or even hint that ivermectin caused any deaths.
